On 7-8th June, Parklife Weekender 2014 invites you to their After party, Afterlife with over 30 official after parties ready to keep you raving all weekend long!

If you’re heading to Manchester’s Heaton Park festival than it is obligatory for you to attend at least one, if not more of the after parties they have in store! If you want to continue partying into the night they’ve got Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, Nina Kravitz, Route 94, Hannah Wants, the legendary Dave Rodigan and a heap more artists and DJs helping you along!

Afraid of missing out? Don’t worry, there’s the whole weekend to get through them all! The breath taking Albert Hall will be our recommended first stop to catch Hot Creations, then head to the ‘Rebel Rave’ for Crosstown Rebels on the Sunday night.

Iconic music magazine, FACT Magazine and Manchester’s finest, Now Wave will feature One Man to the Deaf Institute while the famous and fabulous, internationally renowned DJ Nina Kravitz is in the building at Sankeys alongside Route 94, Catz ‘n Dogz and one of Shopcade’s faves, Hannah Wants.

If taking yourself to Parklife and having a brilliant time isn’t an excuse enough to head to an after party, well how about Scuba celebrating 10 years as Hotflush boss with a headline performance for Drop The Mustard and Ben UFO, who will play a back to back set with Midland.

OK, you’ve got all your excuses right there, get planning your weekend ahead and find the full line-up and tickets here! And if Parklife is new to you then get with the programme and grab your tickets here.

Now all you need is your festival look, which you can get here. So, what are you waiting for? Get involved!

#TBT: Which Clueless Girl Are You?

on

Way before Mean Girls and Legally Blonde came along, there was a little old film called Clueless, which charted the highs and lows of a Beverley Hills teenager and her group of friends.

Sound familiar? Yep, by today’s standards you’re probably already rolling your eyes and shouting ‘CHEESE!’ at the screen.
Well, pause right there girlfriend and put your scepticism to one side, because Cher and co. pioneered the chick flick genre with one liners such as ‘Whatever’ and a rotating closet on standby 24 hours a day.

Scarily still relevant today (hello Iggy Azalea) Cher made the 90s what it was- a big ‘ole fashion love in with all things checked, fluffy, see-through and short. Over the knee socks were cool, gym class was just an excuse to gossip with your friends and we all wanted a computer which picked out our clothes every morning.

Boyfriend’s Clothes? Nah! Photo Credits:  Pinterest | Pyrex | New Balance | Tumblr

We’re all guilty of it. I bet you’ve even done it more than once. That’s right, we’re all in the same club… the club of girls who steal their other halves’ clothes on a regular basis and furthermore (sshh, whisper it) don’t give a damn!

blog.image-laura.bubble-251113-ukHello, my name is Laura and I am a member of this club and have been for eight years. Phew! I feel better having got that off my chest.

So how about you? What are you guilty of? The occasional theft of his fave tee, his oversized jumper his mum got him and he pretends not to like, or his entire wardrobe?

The London Girl’s Style Survival Kit

on

OK, so checking out BuzzFeed the other day we came across this HILAR (seriously amusing) post on the catastrophes that face a London lady every morning on her commute.

It made the girls in the office LOL, so much so we decided to create an emergency kit to help you combat the morning woe of the rush hour hell and stay ridiculously good looking at the same time!

Drum roll please….presenting the Shopcade Style Survival Kit! Check out the corresponding traumas from the original article below and get the lowdown on how we think you can brighten up your day! You’re most welcome…

blog-Collage-of-products-used-to-survive-London!

1. “Many catastrophes strike on the underground, when you have to rugby tackle your way onto the train” Our solution? Elbow pads of course!

2. There’s that excruciating moment someone punches you in the boob” We can’t guarantee that that guy with bad BO won’t elbow you in the boob, but at least you’ll be well supported with our dress and lingerie (tit tape)to keep you in place.

3. “London girls do their make-up en route. No seat means you’re just going to HAVE to do it standing up”  Tricky this one, we don’t want you to poke yourself in the eye, but we heart a curled lash. Solution? heated curlers! They’ll at least stay clamped to your eyelashes, so less chance of pokeage. We take that as a positive :-)

4.”There’s always some weirdo staring at you when you apply your lipstick” We love a good lippy. Not the smearage that comes with applying it on public transport though, so stick to lip balm to avoid any embarrassing smears.

12. No time to fret. You were supposed to meet your friend on the platform. AAAH!”  Binoculars can be a cool solution and the plus side is you’ll never lose your friend on the platform again. (Yes we know this isn’t exactly a pair of binoculars, but we thought this was waaaayyyy more stylish!)

23. “Great plan until you go for work drinks. Everyone else is rocking a sequin clutch and you look like you’re going on a school trip”  Oversized clutches are uber fashionable right now, so stay style savvy with a big beaut that will easily fit your heels in for day and look ultra glam for night. Et Voila!

25. When you forget your dry shampoo it’s kind of a huge fiasco” Dry shampoo is a saviour most days, or you know any day really. Make sure you ALWAYS carry this in your bag.

26. “Even worse when you forget your deodorant” Ditto for deodorant. Do we really need to say why?!

The A-Z of 2014 Fashion Trends

2013 is like sooo last year and so are the trends! It’s time to take a look at the hottest 2014 fashion trends due to hit the high street any day now.

We’ve made it nice and easy in our A-Z of top trends which will see you through the year in style. So sit back, relax and let’s start at the very beginning…

A is for Androgynous: Big in 2013, even bigger in 2014, the boy/girl divide is closing and it seems we are embracing dressing like our other halves. Sharp tailoring, crisp white shirts and the one-off boyfriend jumper thrown in and you’ll be sorted.

B is for Bohemian: Free spirits rejoice! Paisley prints, mixed fabrics and fringed accessories all make up this trend and will start to filter onto the rails in their droves come early spring, so snap up the key pieces early and you’ll be set for festival season in style.

C is for Checks: We teased this as a trend to watch in our SS14 preview last year- checks are set to be the print to watch this season, mark our words! Think loose checks in candy colours as your must buy now and tightly woven checks in darker colours for later on in the year and you can’t go wrong.

London Collections: Men AW14 Trend Preview

on

Ahead of fashion month kicking off in Feb, the capital started proceedings nicely this week by presenting the London Collections: Men (the equivalent of men’s fashion week if the lingo is throwing you!)

Regular FROW attendees included David Gandy (swoon) Nick Grimshaw (he’s a quirky fellow isn’t he?!) and Henry Holland (who was clearly having a quiff off with BFF Nick at every opportunity this week!)

But what of the big trends that will be having a major impact on your boyf’s wardrobe come autumn this year? Well, we’ve done all the hard work for you (we’re nice like that) and rounded up the top 5 looks to work this AW14.

With some savvy shopping, some trends can even be snapped up now in the sales if you’re clever about it, so suss out our guide and get planning now. Well, it never hurts to be prepared does it?!

1. Check it Out: Oh how we love a guy in a checked suit, which is pretty handy because this looks set to be the biggest style to work this AW14 if the designers have anything to say about it. Tight checks over loose reigned supreme over at Hackett, Casely-Hayford and Richard James, whose dapper looking suits will be featured on many a fashion conscious man over the next season we predict.

2. PVC: OK now before you get freaked out, we’re talking waterproof over full on S&M PVC here. Not convinced? Check out Topman Design’s offering- slick PVC capes teamed with sharp tailoring and statement knits gave the collection a real moody gothic feel. A triumph of day one and rightly so, when the finale came, so did the rain!

3. Funnel Necks: Christopher Kane, Topman and JW Anderson made this look very wearable for AW, whereas some others may have tipped the scales slightly (understatement) in favour of creativity over wearability. Who could forget Bobby Abley’s brain/mouse inspired pastel pink sweats that paraded out on day one of LC:M? Exactly! Stick to Topman’s offering in rustic orange or cream and you’ll be on the right side of insanity… promise.

4. Oriental Prints: There was a strong recurring theme through most of the collections presented this week and that was print. Our pick, however is oriental after Richard Nicoll gave us sumptuous silk printed bombers in an oriental print to die for. Craig Green also impressed with his pyjama print offering. A slow burner, but one we think should be invested in.

5. Pop Colour: What better way to liven up the muted colour palette of greys, browns and blacks, than with a splash of pop colour? This look proved popular over at Burberry, James Long and the king of creativity, Christopher Kane whose cobalt blue bobble sweat is on many an editor’s lust list already.

Sneak Peek: SS14 Fashion Trends

Psst. Want to know a secret? We know what everyone is going to be wearing next season and what’s more, we’re going to let you in on it. Welcome to the Shopcade Style Insiders guide to SS14…

blog.image-ss14.1-101213-ukCool As Candy: Pastels made a surprise appearance this autumn (sold out M&S pink coat anyone?!) so if you have invested this season, nicely done, as this will carry you into spring in style! The hot new colours to invest in are cool mint, baby blue and mellow yellow. Burberry Prorsum owned this look on the runway- alongside their hot monochrome and spots came pastel perfection teamed with delicate lace. LOVE.

blog.image-ss14.3-101213-ukCheck On It: Miranda Priestly once said ‘Florals in spring… ground breaking’ so maybe the designers took note and decided to give us a new print to rock for SS14. Checks edged ahead in the style stakes in all four cities, banishing florals into second place. House of Holland’s checkerboard of hot pink, white and blue was fun, yet wearable (think small checked trousers, full skirts and checked shirts) whilst Balmain and Sister By Sibling also deserve a mention for their dropped hem and dolly mixture shift dresses respectively.

blog.image-ss14.2-101213-ukDenim Delight: Banish all thoughts of ill-fitting jeans and dodgy patchwork, because denim just went luxe. Bleached, dark, light, you name it the designers showed it! Ashish gave us frayed, relaxed and slouchy denim on his runway, whilst Holly Fulton’s cut out denim t-shirt is going straight on our lust list. Fitted light denim from Christopher Kane’s resort collection was a winner, whilst Chloe’s denim smock dress will look fab teamed with chunky sandals and oversized sunglasses come summer.

These are our top picks, but what are yours? Share with us your 2014 trend predictions below!

Shopcade live at the Isabel Marant for H&M launch!

Shopcade live at the Isabel Marant for H&M launch!

We here at Shopcade love a designer-high street collaboration and they come no bigger than Isabel Marant for H&M dear readers, which is why Team Shopcade camped out from 7.30am with the rest of the fashion obsessives for a peak at the collection which is already flying off the rails. Here’s the live diary of our progress…

7.30am: Coffee in hand, four bleary eyed girlies (Sanjeela- our Social Media Manager and shopping princess, Marion- our Partnerships Queen, Kriti- our Trending Feed expert and me, Laura, the Chief UK Editor and all around fashion goddess! Haha not really, but I digress) are on site and ready to suss out other like -minded ladies who are also on the hunt for a piece of fashion history.

8.00am: We’re given wristbands by the lovely H&M peeps. 10 minutes to shop at an allocated time- how civilized! The only downside is it’s not until 9.40am… more coffee anyone?!

8.30am: The fash pack are getting restless now, you can see it in their eyes! We almost forget that we’re here to cover the event for Shopcade and start sharpening our elbows. We overhear some pretty clever strategies… one person plans to run in and buy it all for her friends, another is already peeping in the windows, sussing where everything is and planning a clear run, grab, buy. These girls have clearly had their Shreddies this morning!

9am: We managed to sweet talk the lovely doorman and get a sneak peak of what is to come! We are the ULTIMATE insiders!

photo

9.20am: This is by far the most civilised collaboration launch we have ever been to! Everyone is politely making small talk and waiting their turn. We’re uber excited for our turn to go in and shop… only 20 mins to go :-) Head over to our Twitter & Instagram pages for more images and live updates as well!

photo (5)

9.30am: We’re first in the queue! People are coming out with Isabel Marant for H&M bags left, right and centre!

9.40am: And we’re in! All sense has literally gone out of the window as we fight for the key pieces. Marion has grabbed the first five things she’s seen and has wandered off in search of something else. Kriti has managed to bag the last Aztec woolly cardigan and I am manically searching for the metallic dress and shredded knit I’ve had my eye on since the teaser for the collection came out.

image (4)

9.50am: 10, 9, 8…. shout the H&M staff as we all scramble for last minute purchases. I actually ask the security guard if I should buy the jumper I’m desperately clinging to… his advice is ‘take it and go’ so I heed it and make one last dash around to make sure I’ve got the best items I can.

9.55am: And… it’s over. Exhilarating, crazy and totally nuts is how I would sum it up! Sanjeela made a friend during her time slot however, and they both helped each other find the size required. Mine and Kriti’s experience was not so friendly… Kriti nearly got rammed and I was pushed into a pile of scarves! In any other situation I’d be annoyed, but hey, they were ISABEL MARANT scarves, so I was pretty OK about the whole thing.

So lovely Shopcaders, that’s it! We’ve packed up our things, paid for our goodies and are now heading back to Shopcade HQ. Our verdict of the collection? TOTALLY worth it! I picked up the last lust worthy red ‘painted stripes’ sweatshirt, which will look great paired with jeans and wedge trainers for a cool off duty look. Sanjeela meanwhile invested in the gorge muted grey and blue tribal print tee after much deliberation and will wear to death with her skinnies I’m sure.

The beauty of the whole collection is that it is wearable, versatile and well priced considering the designer behind it. It feels like a diffusion of her mainstream high end line for the high street and it really doesn’t disappoint. The fab tote bags to showcase our purchases also made us feel like royalty. Well done H&M, you have done it again!
