One word comes to mind when describing the #streetstyle at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, hot! Both the weather and the fashion was enough to make you short of breath.

Fashionistas braced the heat to strut their best looks from simple and classic to edgy and retro. There was something for everyone. The Lincoln Center was full of unique fashions from elaborate gowns to grunge looks and everything in between. Models, bloggers and editors alike swarmed the scene in their best summer attires.

The most popular looks included lots of black, white and neutral colors from head to toe. There were also a few trips back in time with some looks from the seventies encompassing the flared pant look, as well as the shift dress looks from the sixties.

A lot of the #streetstyles also included wide-leg trousers and full skirts, the bigger, the better and of course lots of fabulous sunglasses to keep out that NYC glare.

If you’re looking for fresh ideas and must haves for your closet then put your shades on and prepare to see some bright stars straight from the streets of NYC.

Speaking of stars, we managed to catch a certain global fashionista/superstar (hint- it’s only bloomin’ Rihanna!) hitting up the Alexander Wang show looking immaculate in denim. Have a look at our exclusive video below of her arriving and check out our interviews with some other bloggers too!

Five Of The Best Celeb Power Bobs Right Now

There is a new ‘do right now sweeping the celeb world right now, with just about every A- Lister jumping aboard the ‘Power Bob’ craze. So much more than just a shoulder length cut, the power bob is offish the hottest look of the season!

Case in point? One of Beyonce’s recent Instagram post generated over 1 Million likes with the subject being, you guessed it, the debut of her new wavy bob.

With this in mind, it got us thinking about the other ‘Power Bob’ players of the celeb world, who have chopped their locks and gained column inches instead.

Here’s five of the best celeb power bobs around…

5. Beyonce: When things get rough, ditch the extensions. This seems to be Beyonce’s motto, as once again she has shed her long locks, debuting a cute wavy bob in its place and generating something like 14k comments in a matter of hours. “Marriage issues, what marriage issues? I have new hair and that is MUCH more interesting!” is what we imagine she was thinking as she posted this pic!

4. Emma Stone: Suddenly oh so sexy now she has chopped her locks! We’ve seen you Miss Stone, casually smirking over your shoulder at the Emmy’s, making sweatpants look chic and generally looking like the cat who got the cream with your new ‘do. We heart. Lots.

Behind The Scenes @ Lovebox

We sent our fab fashion correspondent Analise Trotter down to Lovebox last week to get all the behind the scenes goss from the London festival. Want to get the insider scoop? Then read on!

“Last week I was lucky enough to be asked by the lovely people down at Shopcade to go and report for them at Lovebox Festival in Victoria Park.

My first dilemma- what to wear obviously! Festivals are one of my favourite occasions to dress for, a place where you know anything goes and the more glitter on that lovely face of yours, THE BETTER!

Never one to complain about the sunshine, I embraced the amazing weather we had so much so that I even whacked my swimsuit on! I opted for this lovely cut out piece from Motel Rocks with a matching red daisy print Co-ords (I tied the shirt around my waist,as it was just TOO hot to rock the look together).

I teamed this up with some gorgeous Orelia gold bangles and hamsa hand necklace, layered a Mango gold necklace and Topshop choker over the top to create a stacked effect and added an Urban Outfitters arm bangle and some super cool Divine Ink London metallic tattoos for those extra festi-vibezzz.

We headed up to Victoria Park where the crowds were in full force already embracing the music and sunshine at 12pm. There were so many gorgeous girlies looking amazing, so street style snapping wasn’t hard! Some big trends of the summer seemed to be epic amounts of face glitter, graphic prints and colourful co-ords. Some of my favourite brands for these are Motel Rocks, Topshop and Miss Pap where you can snap up a two piece for less than your festival ticket price- always a winner!

For our June Style Battle™, we’ve taken Style Council members on Shopcade dates to find out more about them, their style and what fashion advice they can share!

For this date we took Rachel Holland, our June stylist for the winner’s shoot, and Alice Luker, fashion photographer, to My Old Dutch, London’s infamous pancake house where we stuffed ourselves with savoury and sweet ones topped off with a Ferrero Rocher milkshake…delicious!

And now, to business…

Rachel Holland

1. How would you describe your style?

Heavily influenced by the 1960s and 1970s, often minimal, inspired by travelling and with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll thrown in.

2. What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

My jewellery. I’ve been collecting unusual pieces for years.

3. What are your have trends this Summer?

I love the denim on denim trend, it’s so wearable and easy to pull off. Also carrying a leather rucksack instead of a handbag, it looks really modern and much more relaxed than a formal bag.

4. What are your fave three brands?

Acne, Margiela, Givenchy

5. Give us one piece of fashion advice…

Dress yourself in an organic, natural way and be true to yourself. Find your own individual style and your own way of dressing that feels good. Expressing who you are on the inside and reflecting it onto the outside beats mindlessly following the trends; That’s how most fashion editors dress – they find what works for them and they stick to it, almost like a uniform. You can then have fun switching up your look with accessories, jackets and shoes for each new season.

10 Things You Never Knew About Mel B

on

2014-110614-melbeeee

We’re feeling just a little bit smug right now. We TOTALLY knew that Mel B was going to be on The X Factor this year after her stellar stand in on the show a few years ago. Plus, who else would they have got to match the ‘fierce’ factor of the dearly departed Nicole Scherzy? Exactly.

So if you’re anything like us, your love affair with Mel will have started in her Spicey days and probably ended with her solo career (harsh but true). However, after proving a hit on the panel last time around, we have definitely warmed up to her again.

Not afraid to speak her mind, we reckon her and Cheryl Cole will get on like a house on fire and clash a fair amount too- basically the perfect love/hate relationship we’ve come to expect from the girls’ side of the judging panel.

Joining Mel and Cheryl is Simon Cowell and yes, unbelievably for no logical reason we can fathom, Louis Walsh is back for a record breaking 11th year as well. Craziness!

Anyway, to celebrate this glorious offish announcement, we’ve done some digging around around the artist formally known as Scary Spice.

Here’s 10 things you never knew about the lady who loves lycra and leopard print…

1. She sang ‘Greatest Love of All’ by Whitney Houston at her Spice Girls audition.

2. She briefly changed her name from Mel B to Mel G when she married her first hubby Jimmy Gulzar.

3. She was given the nickname Scary Spice because she was so loud and lairy.

4. She had her own reality show. Yes really. It was called ‘Mel B: It’s a Scary World’.

5. She’s been a judge on America’s Got Talent and The X Factor Australia.

6. She’s an author. Well kind of. She wrote a memoir called ‘Catch A Fire’ about her life with her fellow Spiceys.

7. She dated British hottie Max Beesley for a brief period in 2002.

8. She has a Japanese tattoo on her stomach which means “spirit, heart, and mind”

9. She worked with Missy Elliott at the height of her Spice Girls fame, releasing ‘I Want You Back’ which hit Number 1 in the UK.

10. She came second on the American version of Strictly Come Dancing, ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in 2007 losing out to Hélio Castroneves the Brazilian racing car driver.

Beauty Trends @ Oscars ‘14

So we had pastels, pale metallic and block colours sweeping the boards at Sunday night’s Oscars style awards, but what of the beauty looks? Who totally rocked it on the night, well check our hot list below…

Margot Robbie’s Gothic Delight: Wow. Margot looks a wee bit different with jet black locks and gothic make up, but you know what, it totes suits her! Seriously, we reckon she suits going over to the dark side, so here’s hoping she keeps it after she’s finished shooting whatever it is she is filming. No woman would go this drastic without a good reason!

Lupita’s Sweet as a Cherry: She’s the lady of the moment and looks sensational in pale blue. Cinderella, who exactly!? Along with the dreamy Prada number which has placed her on many a best dressed list (ours included) her gorgeous make-up deserves just as much praise. Understated eyes and a pop cherry lip make Lupita our new beauty, as well as style crush right now.

Oscars Fashion: The Style Hits

on

We don’t know about you, but it felt like a quiet one at The Oscars last night. Sure there was the usual mix of the super A-List, the kind of A-List, the high society lot and the people you just had no clue about, but there wasn’t any WOW fashion moments like we have had in previous years.

Everyone played it pretty darn safe, but that’s not to say that there weren’t some total style hits. Here’s out rundown of the winners in the style battle last night…

Lupita Nyong’o: She really gave new meaning to the term, ‘fairy tale princess’ on the red carpet last night. The pale blue Prada number (which had been made especially for her, no less) was just gorgeous; empire line, pleating, complete with delicate sparkles woven into the dress and topped off with minimal accessories. We’re talking just a cute sparkly headband and earrings here, which completed the look perfectly.

LFW Day 5: Catwalk Round Up

on

day5roundup

Well that’s it for another season, LFW is officially over, but before the spotlight shifts to Milan, let’s take a sneaky peek at the highlights from the fifth and final day.

After the power players (Burberry, Christopher Kane) stomped all over ‘Mad Monday’, this was most definitely ‘Terrific Tuesday’ (see what I did there?!).

Fashion East, Meadham Kirchhoff, Simone Rocha and Anya Hindmarch to name just a few that closed LFW for another season to much aclaim.

Here’s my view on the top shows of the day…

Giles: Cara has been pretty selective this fashion week, walking in only a handful of shows, which included this one. Surprisingly though, she wasn’t the name on everyone’s lips today; rumoured Harry Styles’ squeeze, Kendall Jenner was the one who took centre stage. Looking gorgeous in a monochrome asymmetric dress, complete with poker straight punk locks and topped off with electric blue eye make-up, she looked every inch the celeb model. Other highlights included the cute buckled shoes and loafers each model sported, giving the runway a low key, approachable feel. Or maybe Giles just saw the Sibling models going flying earlier this week and decided to play it safe in flats?!
