What’s on your shopping list this season?

Wow! This season first on the list is H By Hudson, Leather Brogue Boots I just got myself a pair. The level of detail is second to none, and I simply love the colour. These bad boys will go with anything and last forever. They represent all that is good about today’s culture without verging on East London hipster desperation.

Also you cant go wrong with leather boots –these are this seasons must.  With this, I add to my list Adidas high tops most recently tweeted about. These represent all things Velcro/ #90s #Olive and are super cool and can be matched with fitted guys joggers, skinny jeans and a plain T and or Jean jacket. YES Velcro high tops are back in a big way! You heard it here first.

My third addition is a black roll neck jumper; these were in years ago and now they’re back! And yes I’m adding this to this season’s list- Just putting it out there.

I’m also adding to the list finally- my Autumn/ Winter Black Francis Lambskin Leather Jacket – no more needs to be said!

What do you think is the thing that makes people’s style really stand out?

Uniqueness and colour- I’m all over olive greens/ and mustards at the moment. But it’s really all about how you wear it that makes the style.

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

Tapered fit smart cuffed joggers, topped with large t-shirt and possibly a sharp slim fitted tailored bomber jacket. I am not brave enough to wear cuffed joggers yet, but it will happen!

What’s on your shopping list this season?

Moving into A/W I’m on the look out for cosy knitwear, it’s so vital when the weather gets colder!

What do you think is the thing that makes people’s style really stand out?

I think people’s style stands out when they’re truly comfortable in what they’re wearing and are happy in their outfit. It’s an added confidence that comes naturally.

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I’ve loved the amount of lace overlays that have been on trend. I’ve got a few pieces and they always catch my eye when I’m out shopping.

Who are your fave designers?

I love Reformation and Sandro but for high end designers as well as Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Burberry for their leather jackets!

Best high street brands?

I’m a massive fan of Zara and Topshop. I also love Monki and love to shop online at Missguided and Asos.

Whose style do you admire?

I love Ashley Madekwe’s style and Naya Riviera’s sharp look that she always has. I love Vanessa Hudgens and wish I could pull off the boho look as well as she does!

Have you ever had a fashion faux pas?

I’ve had a few yeah! I used to own this faux fur leopard print coat that didn’t suit me at all but I tried to make it work – I looked terrible!

What’s your favourite piece in your wardrobe atm?

I recently bought a linen mac from Zara. It’s calf length and I loved it so much in beige that I bought the exact same one in black!

What item could you not live without? Fashion/Beauty item…

I couldn’t live without my Mac lip conditioner – it’s better than Vaseline but not as sticky as lip gloss. And it comes in a few different shades too.

What’s on your shopping list this season?

I’m loving all the knitwear that has graced the catwalk this season… From boxy crop knits to the oversized maxi cardigan and roll neck shapes. They’re great pieces to have in your wardrobe, as they’re great for layering with everything!

Relaxed tailoring was also a big trend coming through on the catwalk, so I’ll be buying into tailored jackets and oversized wide leg trousers. Christopher Kane really captured relaxed tailoring perfectly with the three piece dressing!!

What do you think is the thing that makes people really stand out on the Looks app?

For me, I think it’s originality, confidence and personality that makes people stand out on the looks app!

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I really loved the winter pastels this season with its soft palette of greys, blues and blushes! Textures and oversized shapes with lots of layering makes it such a great fashion forward trend and it has definitely been reinvented for winter! I love what Gucci did on the runway with its 60s inspired feel to the collection! I loved all the oversized mohair furs in the soft pastel palette!

Shopcade Dates: The Creative Team

For our June Style Battle™, we’ve taken Style Council members on Shopcade dates to find out more about them, their style and what fashion advice they can share!

For this date we took Rachel Holland, our June stylist for the winner’s shoot, and Alice Luker, fashion photographer, to My Old Dutch, London’s infamous pancake house where we stuffed ourselves with savoury and sweet ones topped off with a Ferrero Rocher milkshake…delicious!

And now, to business…

Rachel Holland

1. How would you describe your style?

Heavily influenced by the 1960s and 1970s, often minimal, inspired by travelling and with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll thrown in.

2. What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

My jewellery. I’ve been collecting unusual pieces for years.

3. What are your have trends this Summer?

I love the denim on denim trend, it’s so wearable and easy to pull off. Also carrying a leather rucksack instead of a handbag, it looks really modern and much more relaxed than a formal bag.

4. What are your fave three brands?

Acne, Margiela, Givenchy

5. Give us one piece of fashion advice…

Dress yourself in an organic, natural way and be true to yourself. Find your own individual style and your own way of dressing that feels good. Expressing who you are on the inside and reflecting it onto the outside beats mindlessly following the trends; That’s how most fashion editors dress – they find what works for them and they stick to it, almost like a uniform. You can then have fun switching up your look with accessories, jackets and shoes for each new season.

The A-Z of 2014 Fashion Trends

2013 is like sooo last year and so are the trends! It’s time to take a look at the hottest 2014 fashion trends due to hit the high street any day now.

We’ve made it nice and easy in our A-Z of top trends which will see you through the year in style. So sit back, relax and let’s start at the very beginning…

A is for Androgynous: Big in 2013, even bigger in 2014, the boy/girl divide is closing and it seems we are embracing dressing like our other halves. Sharp tailoring, crisp white shirts and the one-off boyfriend jumper thrown in and you’ll be sorted.

B is for Bohemian: Free spirits rejoice! Paisley prints, mixed fabrics and fringed accessories all make up this trend and will start to filter onto the rails in their droves come early spring, so snap up the key pieces early and you’ll be set for festival season in style.

C is for Checks: We teased this as a trend to watch in our SS14 preview last year- checks are set to be the print to watch this season, mark our words! Think loose checks in candy colours as your must buy now and tightly woven checks in darker colours for later on in the year and you can’t go wrong.

Teresa Moore Talks About Resolutions, Life as a Model, and Her Best Beauty Tips After a Night Out!

on

Teresa Moore

Visit Teresa Moore ’s Shopcade and follow her to find out more about her style!

One of our favorite models, Teresa Moore, talks about resolutions, how it feels to be working with the likes of Ralph Lauren and Vogue magazine, and of course shares all of her style and beauty tips with Shopcade.

We are a few days before NYE! What’s the one habit that you promised you will change in the New Year?

Being late. It’s not good and gets me stressed. I think peace is all about finesse.

And what are your personal and business plans for the near future?

Keep on modelling hopefully, have two gorgeous children with the man I love, and build an online business that allows me to work from anywhere in the world.

Haha, we are with you on the online business one! And speaking of business, you have worked with brands such as Ralph Lauren and H&M. Are there any cool stories from the photo sets that you would like to share with us?

When working for H&M, the team was really cool (as Swedish people usually are), and once we shot in Turks and Caicos on the beautiful white sand beaches and on very large driftwood trees which were on the sandbank. We had a camp set up on a sand bank off the island and set up tents and put some equipment there. One of the location guys slept there overnight and didn’t realize we were using the driftwood trees in the pictures and the next day we came back and he had chopped them up and used them to make a fire overnight! It was hilarious and thank God the photographer and client were cool about it!

How has growing up in a small Pacific island and then going to places like New York and Milan changed the way you see the world?

Tonga was a microcosm of expats from all around the world and also very traditional with local culture like feasts, dancing and singing. I think living in New York now I also have the worldly expat community which I find diverse and fulfilling, and culturally there is so much going on you can always be inspired. I think the noise level and material waste (Americans double-bag everything!) was a shock when I moved to a big city. Both are really exciting and vibrant places to live.

What’s the best thing about modelling and what is the biggest misconception people have about your work?

The best thing about modelling is the travel, opportunities and the money which you can all use to build an interesting future. I think the biggest misconception about modelling is that it’s easy! It’s very physical; from working out to stay in shape, long 10-12 hour shoot days, running all over the city for castings, jet lag, airports and more jet lag. You also have to develop a thick skin about what people say and possible rejection for something you don’t entirely control (your genetics) and that takes a little confidence and soul searching.

Your modeling career started when you were quite young. What are the things you wish you knew before you entered the fashion arena?

I wish I knew that people and networking means a lot. I wish I knew that dressing better and cooler adds to your persona. I was just a dorky kid from down under! Once you model for a while you develop systems for traveling, working out, dealing with difficult people and knowing how to model a wide-leg pant or a bikini. Things get easier as you learn the whole business better.

We guess there is a learning curve for everything… Let’s talk about style! What are your must-haves for this winter?

My new Sandro wool coat with leather trim! So cool.

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

More cushy insoles inside cool shoes!

Christmas Bloggers Special: Patrick Pankalla shares his fashion secrets with Shopcade…

on

blog.image-guy.in.black-131113-uk

In the first of our Christmas blogger specials, we chat to Danish fashion blogger Patrick Pankalla about Christmas in Scandinavia, the best shopping spots in Copenhagen, and his aversion to… moon boots!

So, it’s nearly Christmas! What’s on your Shopcade wish list?

I’ve ran out of perfume, so that’s on my wish list. Otherwise you’ll find clothes, accessories, shoes, and a new Canon camera that I want so badly.

What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

The best present must have been a trip to the United States that my father arranged for me. One of the worst was a karaoke machine. I can’t sing – everybody knows that!

What would be your dream holiday destination? Would you prefer Santa’s village or some place warm and sunny?

I’d love to travel to a warm and sunny destination. It’s so damn cold here in Denmark; however, it’s part of Christmas I think. I would find it strange to celebrate Christmas somewhere sunny. That’s just not how we do it in Scandinavia.

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

Not really, but I’m always wearing something red!

What are your favourite tunes for the festive season?

I have a mix tape with the best and all the classic Christmas songs. I always listen to it during the season.

What is the one thing that you can’t have enough of during Christmas? Also, what is the one thing that you absolutely can’t stand anymore?!

I can’t get enough of confections and the Christmas dinner – so delicious. I can’t stand mulled wine.

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree. Who would you choose to design it and why?

I would love to see Maison Martin Margiela design it. I can imagine that the tree would be the strangest seen ever, but beautiful in its own way.

blog.image-guy.in.black.square-131113-uk

And what about you, what kind of Christmas tree would you be?

I love to break traditions, so I’d probably be a Christmas tree that no one has ever seen before. A non-traditional, but amazing Christmas tree!

Let’s talk about your blog now… How did you get started?

I’m a Danish fashion blogger – the biggest in Denmark in my age group. Besides that, I’m working as a freelance photographer. I always put quality in the first row, especially when it comes to my blog and its design and photo material. I try to inspire my readers in my own way, and my blog is mostly about fashion and photography, with a touch of travel and my everyday life. It all started because I wanted to inspire and share stuff with people other than my friends and family. Now I’m loving it and can’t see an everyday life without it.

You also run your own e-shop. What kind of items can we find there?

I basically sell items from my wardrobe, stuff that I can’t fit in anymore. It gets updated with new items once in a while.

Traveling seems to be an important part of your blogging life. What’s the best place you have visited so far?

I love traveling and have been doing it a lot. My all-time favourite city must be New York. I’ve been there twice and I fell in love with the city both times. I wanna live there some day – it’s a big dream of mine.

What are your favourite shopping spots in Copenhagen?

You’ll find everything on the main street called “Strøget.” You can compare it with Oxford Street in London – it’s just smaller. If you take a walk down the side streets, you’ll find the best and cosiest shops and cafes. It’s there where you’ll find the hidden treasures when it comes to shopping.

Where are we most likely to find you on a Friday night?

It’s very different from Friday to Friday. As much as I like going out drinking and clubbing, I enjoy staying home and relaxing with a cup of coffee and a great series on TV.

What’s the funniest/weirdest email or comment you have received from a fan?

A few days ago I received the following comment to an outfit post: “What size do you use in shoes? I think your feet look way too big in your shoes and it’s a no-go.” Dude, sorry that my feet are big. It’s not like I can do anything about it!

blog.image-guy.in.black.vertical-131113-ukLet’s talk about personal style now. What’s the one thing that you wouldn’t want to be seen wearing?

A kilt. That’s just odd!

What kind of combinations make you cringe when you see them?

It makes me cringe when I see people wearing denim from head to toe. I just don’t get it!

Guys and shopping seem to be a little contradictory. What about you? Do you enjoy going to the stores?

I love going shopping. I don’t understand why it’s a taboo in some circles of friends. There’s nothing better than new clothes. Get yourself together guys.

If you could press a button and control everyone’s taste, what would you make people wear?

I won’t tell  what I would make them wear, but what they shouldn’t wear. Moon boots and checkered Vans is a huge no-go.

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

That’s a tough question. I actually don’t know. If high street stores like H&M, Zara, COS and Cheap Monday just made clothes that were more fashionable and still with budget-friendly prices, then people would look more stylish.

Get Knitted with National Wool Week!

on

blog.post-get.knitted-181013-uk

The chill factor has shot up an alarming amount this week, so really there is no better time to celebrate Wool Week… an excuse if ever there was one to get all snug with your winter woollies.

We’re embracing the national event, which kicked off earlier this week as it celebrates all things woolly in a good cause.

Cosy knitwear, cute beanies, gloves and scarves, and that’s before you factor in some seriously desirable things for the home (woolly blankets on a chilly eve? Yes pls!) What’s not to love?!

The high street have totally got in on the act and embraced this fab campaign as well with retailers holding live knitting sessions (seriously, it’s cool. Daisy Lowe launched it. Nuff said) and producing some AMAZING woollen wonders.

We’re all about statement sweaters at the moment. From Bats, cats and all things spooky for Halloween to some Christmas novelty cuties making their way onto the rails. There has never been a better time to shop that one of a kind statement, so get in there quick before they all sell out.

If jumpers aren’t doing it for you, think cute tartan woollen kilts in a variety of colours or snap up a snood (or scarf, you know your choice) to fight off the winter chill.

Personally we’re all about finding the perfect winter coat this season, as there has never been so much variety. Topshop have the pop colour woollen wonders, Zara have mastered military, ASOS have the dreamy pink number that everyone is after and New Look is the queen of the duffle coat.

Whatever your preference, we’ve got you covered.  Check out our fab curator, Laura Seed’s Nice Knits list to celebrate Wool Week and keep cosy in style.
