Well, that’s it! New York Fashion Week is over for another season and we’re officially in mourning, because the SS15 collections were just out of this world.

But hey, fashion month ain’t over- you’ve still got London then Milan waiting, so don’t fret about feeling cut short of your Spring ’15 outfit planning. Besides, in case you didn’t know, Fall is just around the corner and we’re super excited to slip into those booties, and keep ourselves warm and comfy with sweaters! Aren’t you?

But let’s go back to #NYFW. From #StreetStyle and trend spotting, to celeb and FROW sightings, and of course, obsessing over your favorite designer’s collection, there’s always something interesting every season.

So we’ve got a list of things we’re obsessed with and then some other things that went straight in our Burn Book 😉

Here’s the 10 things we’ve learned from NYFW SS15…

1. Kendall Jenner er… “Kendall” was the “IT” model for NYFW

Kendall is by far the most buzzed model for New York Fashion Week. Starting off with her first appearance at the Diane von Furstenburg show alongside Naomi Campbell and Candice Swanepoel, she has dominated the runway this season.

We spotted her next rocking a two-piece bikini at the Tommy Hilfiger, then she hit the runway for the Donna Karan presentation. Lastly, she made her second runway appearance for Marc Jacobs, which was a great way to end NYFW. She’s definitely doing the rounds in NYFW with appearances left, right and centre and we know this is just the beginning for her. You go, Kendall!

2. Kudos to Fashion-Forward Thinking Designers

Every season, we’re always blown away by certain designers who think outside the box. Prabal Gurung & Creatures of the Wind expanded their offerings with a footwear collection, which debuted along with their Spring presentation. A great move for both designers, because a girl can never have too many shoes, right?

Then, Rebecca Minkoff had her audience wearing 3D glasses to see the final looks in her show, complete with models working her new wearable technology jewelry collection. Amazing!

3. Flowers and Pastels clearly spells out S-P-R-I-N-G

Need we say more? These colors and patterns are trends that always have a direct relationship with Spring, but it’s the way how designers work around it each season which keep it fresh. BCBG MAX AZRIA, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Jeremy Scott added some spice and edge by focusing on specific floral patterns and pastel hues this Spring. Honestly, we feel like Spring is an endless garden party with their pieces, and we actually don’t mind at all.  (more…)

What’s on your shopping list this season?

I’m loving all the knitwear that has graced the catwalk this season… From boxy crop knits to the oversized maxi cardigan and roll neck shapes. They’re great pieces to have in your wardrobe, as they’re great for layering with everything!

Relaxed tailoring was also a big trend coming through on the catwalk, so I’ll be buying into tailored jackets and oversized wide leg trousers. Christopher Kane really captured relaxed tailoring perfectly with the three piece dressing!!

What do you think is the thing that makes people really stand out on the Looks app?

For me, I think it’s originality, confidence and personality that makes people stand out on the looks app!

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I really loved the winter pastels this season with its soft palette of greys, blues and blushes! Textures and oversized shapes with lots of layering makes it such a great fashion forward trend and it has definitely been reinvented for winter! I love what Gucci did on the runway with its 60s inspired feel to the collection! I loved all the oversized mohair furs in the soft pastel palette!

Fashion Stylist Q&A: Temporary Secretary

on

From presenting quirky, fun jewellery to featuring a somewhat grumpy (but definitely adorable) cat named Oscar, Sarah’s fashion and beauty blog offers an inspiring, fashionable adventure to all of us. Voted ‘best fashion blog’ by Look Magazine, Temporary:Secretary has a dash of humour and a light-heartedness that bonds well with the abundance of great style and beauty tips that can be found there. We managed to pick Sarah’s brain and learn about her favourite trends, style icons, and her love affair with New York!

Fashion Stylist Q&A: Temporary Secretary
How long are you planning to be a Temporary Secretary?
I’d love to be blogging for as long as I can! In which case, I should probably start considering about changing my blog name to “Permanent Secretary”.

Aliens invade the planet and you need to convince them to spare your blog. What do you say to them?
I’d walk up to them and say “Let’s do a make over! My main thrill in life is a makeover” and if they don’t get the Clueless reference, then sorry, you can’t sit with us…

What’s the funniest email or comment you have received from a reader?
I get very lovely emails and messages from readers. The weirdest email was from a brand who wanted me to write about them. They didn’t do anything bad, and they were also very wonderful people, it was just bad targeting. I won’t name them, but basically they sold things like gimp masks and whips. Nothing wrong with that at all, it’s just not really my kind of thing!

If your cat Oscar could speak, what would he say about the world of fashion? Is there a rivalry between him and Karl Lagerfeld’s cat?
I’m not sure if there’s rivalry between him and Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, but he sure is jealous of Grumpy Cat. I think Oscar and Grumpy could potentially be BFF’s. They would get together and laugh at how silly fashion is.

Fashion Stylist Q&A: Temporary Secretary - Oscar
What is the best and the worst part of being a blogger?
Best part is being interviewed by Shopcade, of course! :) My favourite part of being a blogger is getting to know the community, and even working with a few of the bloggers. I also love working with brands who are clued up on how blogs work. My blog is like my baby and what I put on there will ultimately reflect me as a person so I’m precious with who I work with and what content I create. Only the best will do for my wonderful readers! Nothing really stands out enough to make me mention a worst part of being a blogger. Probably the negativity that surrounds the community from people who don’t quite get it.

Define your style in a few words…
I don’t put that much effort into my outfits, I don’t make it a point to be a certain way. As long as it is smart and presentable, then I’m happy. I used to think that I had a pretty normal sense of style, but then when people comment on things I wear by saying such things like “that skirt… my grandma would wear it”, I do wonder where I’m going wrong!

Who’s your style icon?
Kate Middleton and Zooey Deschanel.

What’s your failsafe fashion piece this season?
A trench coat. Classically British!

What’s your colour for this season? I like all the red tartan I’m seeing this season!

Fashion Week Special

Milan, London, Paris or New York for a Fashion Week?
New York – the best city in the world for EVERYTHING!

Let’s say you are a DJ for a catwalk show, what is your ideal soundtrack?
SleepyHead by Passion Pit. It was used on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week a couple of years ago and it was so good. Goose pimples and everything!

Who is your favourite street style photographer?
I don’t know any other than the popular “mainstream” ones. When I first started to read blogs, all I read were street style ones. Now I only read personal style/fashion blogs. I get more style inspiration for them.

What’s the one trend that you really don’t want to see again on the catwalks?
I’m open to all, but I don’t really like anything furry.
