Designers create Christmas knits for charity: What do Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood have in common? Aside from the fact that they are all AMAZING British designers, they have also each designed a Christmas knit to be auctioned off for charity. In association with Save The Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, the full collection of knits will be on display in The Village at Westfield London from Thursday 28th November. Fancy getting your mitts on one of these knits? Well, in a unique twist it will be the lowest unique bid that wins the prize not the highest, so check out the full competition deets at here to bag yourself a quirky Christmas knit now.

Alexa Chung for Longchamp: Is there anything this woman can’t turn her hand to? TV presenter, writer, muse and model, now… the new face of Longchamp. Appearing in the SS14 & AW14 campaigns Alexa is all loose messy hair, endless legs and gorgeous leather bags. Sigh, some gals have all the luck!

We heart cat prints: oh Miley, how we love you and your quirky sense of style. Fresh from bleaching your eyebrows last week, your AMA performance at the weekend now has us championing cat prints galore. Maybe not in bikini form… we’ll leave that to the very brave, but who doesn’t fancy working a print that features a cute kitten or two?!

And finally….

blog.image-tights.bubble-271113-ukFashion Ed’s pick of the day: Do the Highland fling with this quirky pick of the day! Black tights are like so last season, right now we are all about colourful, patterned and playful winter woollies. These checked tights  will liven up any outfit and give a nod to Autumn’s tartan trend without being too overbearing.

Christmas Blogger Special: Amy Valentine shares her style inspiration with Shopcade

Beauty and style blogger Amy Valentine chats about her love of Pokémon, her top nail tips and why she thinks Britain’s fashion darling Ashish would be a good Christmas tree designer! Welcome to her pink world of fun…

Welcome to our Christmas special! Tell us what’s in your Shopcade wish list?

Lots of sparkles and cosy layers for winter!

What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

I think the best present I’ve ever received is my Nikon D3200. It’s the camera I use for all my blog stuff and I use it nearly every day! I can’t exactly remember the worst present I’ve received, but it’s the thought that counts!

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

I do indeed, it has got to be my new Vivienne Westwood handbag I got for my birthday – I love it so much I’ll be using it constantly!

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree. Who would you choose to design it and why?

I can’t imagine what the tree would look like if it was designed by Ashish – probably covered with sequins and obscenities, it would be awesome!

Which film puts you in the spirit of Christmas?

Probably Elf – it’s hilarious and always puts me in a festive mood.

What type of Christmas tree would you be?

If I was a Christmas tree I’d definitely be pink, with lots of sparkly decorations please!

So, let’s move onto your blog! You describe yourself as socially awkward. Why is that?

That’s quite a question – but I guess it’s pretty self-explanatory; I’m not the most confident person in real life, that’s all!

What’s the one trend that you can’t have enough of?

I am loving tartan at the moment and although it was more of a spring/summer trend, monochrome has made its way into winter and I’m a sucker for a good tonal outfit.

You have a special section about nails in your blog. Care to share your best tips and favourite products?

I do indeed! My favourite nail varnish brand is definitely OPI and I’m getting much more into deeper colours now that autumn is upon us. My tip would be to invest in a good top coat, as it helps nail varnish stay for so much longer!

What is the best and the worst part of being a blogger?

The best part is obviously the gifts you get and also I’ve made some lovely blogger friends and attended some great parties – although blogging is extremely time consuming and I spend almost every hour of every day doing something blog related!

What’s the funniest/weirdest email or comment you have received from a fan?

I love receiving messages from my followers, although I’m not much of a fan of creepy foreign guys asking me to webcam with them… no thanks!

Where do you get inspiration from when it comes to style?

From other fashion bloggers or Tumblr photos usually. I find that trends appear earlier there – also there’s always fresh looks to get inspiration from and interpret them into your own personal style.

What kind of combinations make you cringe when you see them?

I can’t really think of anything off the top of my head – maybe things like matching tracksuits and that kind of thing!

If you could press a button and control everyone’s taste, what would you make people wear?

I think if I had to choose I would not push the button – just because although there are some people with less desirable taste in clothes, it would be far too boring if everyone had the same style!

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

Definitely a high street store to release a budget version of the gorgeous leather and sequin Filles A Papa jacket that’s featured in my Shopcade wish list!

What is it that you like about Pokémon so much?

It was one of the major things I grew up with so it has just stayed with me – I got the new game recently and love it!

And finally…Aliens invade the planet and you need to convince them to spare your blog! What do you say to them?

Hmm, maybe ‘please spare my blog – I’ll let you share my wardrobe…?’

We don’t know about you, but we heart Amy! To find out more about the Pink and Pokemon Queen herself, check out her blog here >> Amy Valentine

1 Piece, 3 Ways: Topshop Punk Tartan Balloon Trousers

on

The punk trend is a hard-to-miss look marked by a whole lotta leather and PVC, intense shades of red and yellow interwoven in bold plaid prints, and, more often than not, accessorized with safety pins and zippers. Although the edgy items are on display in just about every store this autumn/winter that doesn’t make the bell-and-whistle laden look any less intimidating to try.

If you’ve been hesitant to add a punk piece to your wardrobe, we think we might have found one – Topshop Punk Tartan Balloon Trousers – that will fit into your closet regardless if you’re a classic, trendy, or eclectic type. Here are three easy ways to pull off the punk look and add a little wild to your wardrobe.

1 Piece, 3 Ways: Topshop Punk Tartan Balloon Trousers

If your style is on the simple and sweet side, you can give punk a whirl by adding modern-preppy staples like this polka dot blouse, which helps pull the periwinkle out in the pant, and a quirky knitted bunny rabbit sweater. Add chunky Chelsea boots for a twist. Pretty AND punk rock?! Yes, it’s possible!

Style File: Little Mix

on

It’s nearly two years since Little Mix lifted the X Factor crown (we know, where has the time gone?!) and the girls are back looking hotter than ever.

The cutest lot in the business, we loved their refreshing attitude to style- wearing WTF they liked with two fingers stuck up to the industry and any doubters- these ladies meant business and we had a lotta love for them.

‘Wings’ was all natural make up and cutesy denim, ‘How ya doin’?’ had us dip dying our hair and breaking out the ‘kapow’ t-shirts and spiky headbands, so how will new tune, ‘Move’ compare in the style stakes?

Well, on first glance we reckon it’s a fashion hit. Rocking monochrome, tartan checks, crop tops, jumpsuits, sharp tailoring, true blue and high collared shirts, this is the grown up Little Mix and we are loving it!

Like the Spice Girls (we know, retro right?!) All Saints (remember them?!) and Girls Aloud (the queens of pop) before them, each Little Mix-er has their own style. Let’s break it down…

blog.image-little.mix.1-281013-uk

Leigh-Anne: All about bodycon and big hair, Leigh-Anne loves to mix and match textures and is the queen of clashing prints. We don’t know many people who could make stripy leggings and purple leather work, but somehow she manages it!

Perrie: Known as the experimenter in our eyes, Perrie will give anything a go- two tones of pink hair on top of bleached blonde? That is BRAVE! We’re loving her relaxed tailored boy meets girl style here, with the fedora hat making a star turn. Get one quick!

Jesy: The urban queen, Jesy looks gorgeous in this vid, showing off her newly toned abs in tight fitting tees, customized denim cut offs and big Dr Martins. Gal got attitude and isn’t afraid to show it.

Jade: Cute as a button, don’t ya agree?! All about the braces, babydoll dresses and bowties in the beginning, Jade has gone all grown up on us here with high collars and 90s style jumpsuits. We heart.
