Trend Watch: Indian Summer

Trend Watch: Indian Summer | Photo Credit: Tumblr

Rich colours, detailed prints, and jewellery for every part of the body. The season’s trends have taken an Eastern turn and we’ve been treated with some stunning Indian inspired summer wears.

With such choice of beautiful paisley prints, bindis and headpieces it can be easy to go OTT and look like a vintage Bollywood reject! The key here is to keep it simple and throwing in just one piece to your outfit, however big or small that may be!

Heidi, Naomi, Elaine

Bloggers do it best! From left Heidi in a bindi wearing a modernised playsuit with scattered mirror embroidery. Naomi makes a bold statement in all-over paisley with layering and colour contrast, while Elaine keeps it soft with dusky pink lace and a gold head chain as a finishing touch.

1,2,3- easy! This look can be effortless, take your dominant print and make a feature of it! Minimal layering and accessories is a must with such bold colours and patterns. We love the vintage worn Ganesh inspired tee and this retro Bollywood print skirt as statement items.

Just as eye-grabbing, an alternative is to go light and basic with soft layering and muted colours, to then pile high the accessories! Luckily we have a huge choice this season, with multifunctional pieces from nose-to-ear chains, belly chains and full body harnesses- jewellery has never been so fun!

Check out my Indian Summer hit list here, so you can work the trend for yourself!

The Designer Store Meets: Olive And Frank

We have another Designer Store exclusive for you this week Shopcaders and it’s a quick fire Q&A with the fabulous Olive and Frank. Want to know about how the brand started, or the best pieces from the collection? Then read on!

What made you start Olive and Frank?

It all started way back when I was about 15 and would buy vintage pieces in charity shops to sell on ebay. A few years later I launched a website selling jewellery, then expanded that to sell clothes, which eventually evolved into Olive and Frank and designing my own pieces.

What made you interested in starting a career in design and fashion?

I have always been really interested in style and how people put clothes together to express themselves through what they wear. Originally I was interested in styling, so working in design is something that has evolved for me over time and I think this allows me to work instinctively and create what I love.

What is your fave piece from your collection available on Shopcade Store?
The Hey Girl sweatshirt, it’s super comfy and looks great worn casually or dressed up with a lace pencil skirt and heels.

How would you sum up the Olive and Frank customer?

Olive and Frank is for girls who like to dress for themselves, mix it up and have fun with what they wear.

What inspires you?

Inspiration can come from all over… street style, my own wardrobe, old photographs and tumblr is like a giant mood board.

Love Olive and Frank? Then shop the whole collection right here!

6 Items That Will Get You Noticed at NYFW

These six fashion editor approved essentials are sure to get you noticed this fashion week…

      1. Cool Outerwear: A/W fashion week falls in the beginning of February every year so it’s inevitable that outerwear will be a staple of your ensemble. Our fave for the past couple of seasons has been the tomboy-chic bomber also referred to as a varsity jacket. The best way to get noticed by the massive heard of street style photogs patrolling NYC during NYFW is by choosing one in a bold print. Floral or a black and white window pane print are our top picks.
      2. Wild Carryall: Whether you’re a blogger going from show to show or just a fashionable onlooker checking out the runway via, having a chic carryall in your closet is a must. All-over logo prints are everywhere for Spring. If incorporating them into a piece of clothing is too much, why not try an accessory? We like the MCM’s revamped backpack – they had a serious moment in the 90s hip hop scene. (Can’t you totally see Lil Kim rocking one?!) And, hey, IT IS Throwback Thursday, after all!
      3. Shades: When getting snapped avoid the curse of camera shyness while, ahem, covering up your unwanted eye circles with a kooky pair of sunnies. The weeklong cycle of parties, shows, and madness are bound to take their toll and when they do show ’em who’s boss. Take charge with a wacky color or bold-shaped frame. Oversized Miu Miu cat eyes? Don’t mind if we do!
      4. Ankle Strap Heels: NYC is generally a walking city. When you’re traveling around the island during NYFW it’s cabs, cabs, cabs. And, the subway, sometimes – if we have to. If your main mode of transport for the week will bring you from cab to curb, wear your heels! Right now we are mega-obsessed with ankle-strap pumps. Splurge on a pair of Alexander Wang’s or steal these floral print statement-makers from Target for $29.99.
      5. Phone Charger: I mean, the whole point of going to NYFW is to brag about it on Instagram, right? Yeah, we thought so. With all the snapping you’ll be doing it’s a smart move or shall we say power play to suit ip your iPhone with an all-in-one case charger. Because, let’s be honest – having a dead battery in NOT CHIC.
      6. Crop Top: If you haven’t noticed, skin is in. Yes, even in winter! Show off those mid drifts in a transitional winter-to-spring boxy crop top. Feeling eccentric? Pair it with a matching bottom – cigarette pants or a full skirt – for a suit that is sure to get your on every street style blog this NYFW 2014. Maybe even ours? 😉

Forget diamonds. A girl’s best friend during London Fashion Week is none other than shoes that can support her in all her activities: from catwalking to dancing at the after-show parties!

LFW Special

Traffic – what can you do about that little old thing that causes you to miss fashion shows? Either way, good old livestreaming made sure I still caught the KTZ show. I love the element of music and sheer attitude that always runs through this label’s collections. After a quick coffee I headed into the courtyard to check out the Rock Vault that featured some amazing jewellery designers and the new pop up shop which has super cute bits and bobs.

Home to change my Nicholas Kirkwoods for some mega Terry de Haviland heels for my best friend, model, and poet Greta Bellamacina’s birthday dinner. After a wonderful dinner party, we headed out to the Serpentine for the event of Diesel that had invited mega babe Aluna (and George) for a live set. Dancing till dawn, the much needed shoe change to Nike high-tops meant that day 4 of London Fashion Week had the most shoe changes in a single day!

From exciting shows and magazine parties to drinks at members-only clubs, Amber’s second day at London Fashion Week was definitely full of energy and good vibes!

LFW Special

After a late night at the St Martins Lane, I decided to attend the shows from my bedroom this morning livestreamed straight to me. I enjoyed them with a cup of rejuvenating green tea, while wearing my smooth silk pyjamas from luxury British nightwear designer Olivia von Halle.

After swooning over Antipodium and Holly Fulton, I made it down to Markus Lupfer’s presentation which was a total dream. Markus is one of my favourite designers, and his iconic lips jumper is a wardrobe staple of mine in far too many colour ways!

I then headed to Ashish, where the collection had a cool mix of sequins and grungy sportswear – and it also featured the most amazing sequinned carrier bags! There, it was fun to see Lilah Parsons and Paloma Faith, and I also had a giggle when the models at the end of the show appeared like a bride and groom and kissed!

I stopped into the showrooms to see my fave swimwear label Auria and bumped into Flash Trash girl model India Rose James, before running off for a quick drink at the Soho House with Purple Magazine. Then I quickly went home to change into a Peter Jensen dress for the Tessa Edwards show and Flaunt magazine party…it could be another late one!
