What to Wear When Chilling Out

‘Just Chilling!’ Photo Credit: Chanelle |The Penelope Times

Do you really need to worry about what you’re wearing when you’re chilling out with friends or lying around at home watching television?  You might not think so, but you never know when you’ll need to look your best or who might knock at the door, so it is always worth putting in the effort even if you’re going for a lazy chic look and here’s where Shopcade can help.

The obvious answer, at least if you’re indoors, might be to keep your pyjamas on which is fine, but you aren’t going to do wear them if you’re heading out to lounge in the pub garden for the afternoon, are you?

Blogger Matthias Cornilleau spills all on his fashion loves and loathes this season!

Matthias Cornilleau | Stylnoxe

Love Matthias’ look? Visit his Shopcade and follow him to find out more about his style!

When it comes to interviewing stylish Parisian guys, we say YES without any hesitation! Matthias Cornilleau runs Stylnoxe, an uber cool blog about men’s fashion and travelling. We grilled him on how men shop these days and why he hates running shoes with a passion!

Hi Matthias! We love your blog. What’s the concept behind it? And the blog’s name is quite unusual, how did you come up with it?

My blog’s name is a mix of the word “style” and the name of a medicine. In fact, I think fashion is like a medicine – when you feel comfortable and happy in your clothes, you feel comfortable and happy in your skin. That’s why I wear different types of clothes: casual, classic, grunge – every day I select a different outfit which corresponds to my mood.

You also run your own e-shop. What kind of items can we find there?

It’s not really an e-shop, it is an area where I sell all the clothes that I cannot keep at home, as I have so many things compared to the size of my flat!

Travelling seems to be an important part of your blogging life. What’s the best place you have visited so far?

I’ve got lovely memories from my road trip in Croatia and Vietnam. I plan to go to Asia again soon! :)

Cheers to a New Year from all at Shopcade!

Happy New Year Shopcade

Note from Shopcader Nathalie Gaveau

Shopcade CEO and Co-Founder

Hello Shopcaders,

Let me start by sending you lots of virtual hugs for your amazing love and support in 2013.

In 2011, we built Shopcade for today’s busy young fashionistas so there’s a single place to keep up with the best trends and deals from reliable sources such as today’s top magazines, celebrities, bloggers, brands and fellow fashion-savvy geniuses out there.

And in 2013, we launched our new mobile apps on IOS7 and Android and grew to a community of over half a million fashionistas and 30,000 brands, making Shopcade one of the biggest places to shop fashion and broke new sales records every week. We also built widgets for bloggers to showcase their favourite products to their fans.

But that’s not all. After your holiday cheerios, here’s what we will cuddle you with in 2014:

More Fashion Trends

We’re partnering with even more magazines, bloggers and celebrities and expanding our team of fashion correspondents in the US and the UK, who will spot the latest trends and styles on your behalf. You can expect to hear about the latest “fashion goss”, keep up with the “ones to watch” and show off with our “get the look” and more, daily.

More Social

We want to make our stylish Shopcaders famous. That’s why we will allow Shopcaders to add photos and videos to express their style, and crown the most stylish ones with the “Miss & Mr Shopcade” prizes – winning stylish treats and being featured to the whole community.

More Deals

Part of being the best place to shop is to help you save money. We will feature even more fashionable deals from our partners, including exclusive offers from todays’ most fashionable brands and emerging designers.

More Mobile

We will optimize the mobile apps to be simpler and even more personalized based on your location and interests. If our mobile app is the word “window” in “window-shopping”, we will polish it like gold.

See you in 2014!

PS: we are always on the look out for bright and fashionable young minds, whether it be bloggers, curators, ambassadors or fashion-addict trendsetters, so don’t hesitate to contact us!

#GiftThisHB: Shopping Party in NYC

Last Thursday we gathered at Henri Bendel in NYC to celebrate the holidays with a whole lotta shopping and little champagne sipping – or was it the other way around? Either way, the most important detail of the event is that that evening we also OFFICIALLY launched our Android and revamped iOS apps. Woot!!

Our featured ambassadors from Her Campus and StyleList led the charge, demo-ing the app to shoppers while our lovely hostess, Christine, from NYC Pretty helped guests make the perfect holiday gift picks.

#ShopcadeStyle ambassadors (L – R), Divya Bahl (Senior manager of client services), Michelle Lewis (Senior Editor), Kelsey Thorn (Designer), and Chelsea Evans (Director of Operations) from Her Campus with their iPads in tow, all set to show off our brand spanking new app.

The brown stripes of Henri Bendel say it all – classic New York City style. What girl wouldn’t want to play dress-up in this giant closet. I mean, look at the view from the top!

Christmas Bloggers Special: Marta Pozzan talks about her love of Miu Miu, fashion must-haves this season and living the stylish life in L.A.

Marta Pozzan | Itssuperfashion

Visit Marta’s Shopcade and follow her to find out more about her style!

Los Angeles-based Italian fashion blogger and actress Marta Pozzan talks to Shopcade about her love for anything Miu Miu, modeling, her friend Jaime King, and – you guessed it – Christmas shopping! Fashion aficionados, feel free to take notes!

Hi Marta! Thanks for joining us for our Christmas special! What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

The best present I’ve ever received was a military green Miu Miu coat. I love Miu Miu; it’s my favorite brand ever, so that gift was awesome. The ones that I’d rather forget are mainly earrings or bracelets I get gifted by people I’m not very close to, so they don’t really know my style or taste and I just end up never wearing them.

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

Yes, indeed. A white furry coat by Topshop I’m so obsessed with! Oversized furry coats are such a must-have this season.

Which film puts you in the spirit of Christmas?

“The Nightmare Before Christmas.” I know it’s a bit creepy but I used to love it as a kid.

What is the one thing that you can’t have enough of during Christmas? On the contrary, what is the one thing that you absolutely can’t stand anymore?

I think Christmas is such a good occasion indulge my sweet tooth; eating all sorts of candies or holiday desserts is just the nicest thing that could happen during Christmas. On the other hand, I’m really bored with all the Christmas decorations like lights and trees, they’re just always the same every year and unless they have an innovative design, I don’t really get impressed anymore.

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree in London. Who would you choose to design it and why?

Maison Martin Margiela. We need a Christmas tree that is not so Christmassy for once, but that’s more a piece of art and they’d be perfect for that.

What type of Christmas tree would you be?

All white and clear, made out of glass with milky white lights.

Lists We Love: Faux Fur

In the second of our curator specials, Yuen Lim gives us the lowdown on faux fur this season. With celebs like Fearne Cotton channeling this trend, we reckon it’s here to stay.

Over to you, Yuen…

Put aside that coat or jacket – faux fur is a trend that is taking the winter season by storm. What I love about this trend is that it makes a statement on its own and keeps you warm – what more can you want?!

Either go subtle with hints of faux fur on your outer wear, or go all out with whole faux fur gilets or vests. The best part about this trend is that you can simply throw it on for a luxurious, couture look without trying very hard at all. That’s your lazy day sorted! Oh and, no animals were harmed in the process 😉

Whilst creating my Faux Fur list on Shopcade, I was thinking about ways to incorporate something unique into my wardrobe or closet that is still season appropriate. Of course, the perfect addition was something that is out of the ordinary, puts you as the center of attention and most importantly, prevents you from getting frostbite.

With the faux fur trend, it may not seem like it, but it is in actual fact, super versatile. You can style it two ways – either keep it simple and minimal for a casual outing, or as a cover up over a glittery, glamorous party dress.

Christmas Bloggers Special: Camila Carril talks designer accessories and Brazilian fashion with Shopcade

From Brazil with love! Fashion blogger Camila Carril chats about her love for designer accessories, why Vivienne Westwood should be designing Christmas trees and what’s on her Shopcade wish list this season…

We are getting close to Christmas! What’s in your Shopcade wish list?

A lot of things! You can check them out here!

What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

I don’t have a gift I would rather forget. But I have one that I will always remember: six years ago my dad came home with a brand new suitcase. I knew what that meant. That was my best gift! The suitcase was his way to say he would allow me to come to London (at the time I was only 16). That changed everything and I will always remember the meaning of this gift.

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

I haven’t thought about that as yet. One thing I know, during New Year’s Eve in Brazil it is a tradition that we wear white! So whatever “it” fashion item would be white.

Which film puts you in the spirit of Christmas?

It has to be Home Alone.

What are your favourite tunes for the festive season?

John Lennon – Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
David Bowie and Bing Crosby – The Little Drummer Boy
Bruce Springsteen – Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town

Sneak Peek: SS14 Fashion Trends

Psst. Want to know a secret? We know what everyone is going to be wearing next season and what’s more, we’re going to let you in on it. Welcome to the Shopcade Style Insiders guide to SS14…

blog.image-ss14.1-101213-ukCool As Candy: Pastels made a surprise appearance this autumn (sold out M&S pink coat anyone?!) so if you have invested this season, nicely done, as this will carry you into spring in style! The hot new colours to invest in are cool mint, baby blue and mellow yellow. Burberry Prorsum owned this look on the runway- alongside their hot monochrome and spots came pastel perfection teamed with delicate lace. LOVE.

blog.image-ss14.3-101213-ukCheck On It: Miranda Priestly once said ‘Florals in spring… ground breaking’ so maybe the designers took note and decided to give us a new print to rock for SS14. Checks edged ahead in the style stakes in all four cities, banishing florals into second place. House of Holland’s checkerboard of hot pink, white and blue was fun, yet wearable (think small checked trousers, full skirts and checked shirts) whilst Balmain and Sister By Sibling also deserve a mention for their dropped hem and dolly mixture shift dresses respectively.

blog.image-ss14.2-101213-ukDenim Delight: Banish all thoughts of ill-fitting jeans and dodgy patchwork, because denim just went luxe. Bleached, dark, light, you name it the designers showed it! Ashish gave us frayed, relaxed and slouchy denim on his runway, whilst Holly Fulton’s cut out denim t-shirt is going straight on our lust list. Fitted light denim from Christopher Kane’s resort collection was a winner, whilst Chloe’s denim smock dress will look fab teamed with chunky sandals and oversized sunglasses come summer.

These are our top picks, but what are yours? Share with us your 2014 trend predictions below!

Our #GiftThis Countdown to Xmas. Make A List to Win!

For the past few weeks we’ve been pitting our #GiftThis lists against each other to help shoppers pick the perfect presents for their hardest to buy for giftees – boyfriends, BFFs, and Secret Santa’s alike. With those under our belt (and tree) we’ve decide to pass the torch onto our community.

Now it’s your turn to make the lists. Show us the gifts you’ll be giving this year and you can win one of three A-MAAAA-ZING prizes.

All you have to do to win is 1) create a holiday gift list. Include anything from gifts for granny to the designer bag you’re lusting after. Once it’s filled with all your fave products, 2) tweet your list to @Shopcade using the hashtags – #GiftThis and #shopcade. Don’t have a Twitter account? Enter via email by sending your list to competition@shopcade.com with the subject line “Holiday 2013 Mission”. Once it’s up, feel free to promote, retweet, and 3) keep your fingers crossed until December 18th, the day we will be calling a winner.

The three best lists have a chance to win a $115 voucher to Boticca (3rd prize), $150 voucher to Perfumania (2nd prize), or a grand prize worth $300.

HURRY UP and enter! It’s the countdown to Xmas. After all, there are only 17, 16, 15…days left.
