Well, that’s it! New York Fashion Week is over for another season and we’re officially in mourning, because the SS15 collections were just out of this world.

But hey, fashion month ain’t over- you’ve still got London then Milan waiting, so don’t fret about feeling cut short of your Spring ’15 outfit planning. Besides, in case you didn’t know, Fall is just around the corner and we’re super excited to slip into those booties, and keep ourselves warm and comfy with sweaters! Aren’t you?

But let’s go back to #NYFW. From #StreetStyle and trend spotting, to celeb and FROW sightings, and of course, obsessing over your favorite designer’s collection, there’s always something interesting every season.

So we’ve got a list of things we’re obsessed with and then some other things that went straight in our Burn Book 😉

Here’s the 10 things we’ve learned from NYFW SS15…

1. Kendall Jenner er… “Kendall” was the “IT” model for NYFW

Kendall is by far the most buzzed model for New York Fashion Week. Starting off with her first appearance at the Diane von Furstenburg show alongside Naomi Campbell and Candice Swanepoel, she has dominated the runway this season.

We spotted her next rocking a two-piece bikini at the Tommy Hilfiger, then she hit the runway for the Donna Karan presentation. Lastly, she made her second runway appearance for Marc Jacobs, which was a great way to end NYFW. She’s definitely doing the rounds in NYFW with appearances left, right and centre and we know this is just the beginning for her. You go, Kendall!

2. Kudos to Fashion-Forward Thinking Designers

Every season, we’re always blown away by certain designers who think outside the box. Prabal Gurung & Creatures of the Wind expanded their offerings with a footwear collection, which debuted along with their Spring presentation. A great move for both designers, because a girl can never have too many shoes, right?

Then, Rebecca Minkoff had her audience wearing 3D glasses to see the final looks in her show, complete with models working her new wearable technology jewelry collection. Amazing!

3. Flowers and Pastels clearly spells out S-P-R-I-N-G

Need we say more? These colors and patterns are trends that always have a direct relationship with Spring, but it’s the way how designers work around it each season which keep it fresh. BCBG MAX AZRIA, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Jeremy Scott added some spice and edge by focusing on specific floral patterns and pastel hues this Spring. Honestly, we feel like Spring is an endless garden party with their pieces, and we actually don’t mind at all.  (more…)

Meet Kate Holroyd, Boohoo‘s Senior Stylist and our new designer judge on our August Style Council! If you want to know what floats her fashion boat this season, what inspires her work and how you can dress to impress and win her vote to be crowned our August #StyleBattle™ winner, then read on!

What’s on your shopping list this season?

I’m loving all the knitwear that has graced the catwalk this season… From boxy crop knits to the oversized maxi cardigan and roll neck shapes. They’re great pieces to have in your wardrobe, as they’re great for layering with everything!

Relaxed tailoring was also a big trend coming through on the catwalk, so I’ll be buying into tailored jackets and oversized wide leg trousers. Christopher Kane really captured relaxed tailoring perfectly with the three piece dressing!!

What do you think is the thing that makes people really stand out on the Looks app?

For me, I think it’s originality, confidence and personality that makes people stand out on the looks app!

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I really loved the winter pastels this season with its soft palette of greys, blues and blushes! Textures and oversized shapes with lots of layering makes it such a great fashion forward trend and it has definitely been reinvented for winter! I love what Gucci did on the runway with its 60s inspired feel to the collection! I loved all the oversized mohair furs in the soft pastel palette!

Boohoo’s StyleFix Editor Talks Top Trends For Summer

We have nothing but mega love for Boohoo here at Shopcade HQ, so we were pretty chuffed to land a quick Q&A with the lovely Emma, Boohoo’s Stylefix Editor (yes that is her in our lovely circle of fame above!) to talk all about the upcoming trends for the season ahead. Check out her must have festival buys below…

Hey Emma! So spill, what do you think are the top trends for SS14, and which ones are your faves?

The catwalk saw a heavy sports influence in embellished sweats and athletic looking socks with sandals. Each season we see sport done in a different way and this spring it’s better than ever. Metallics are a huge trend at the moment, because nothing looks as mesmerising as a glittering metallic piece on a hot summer’s day, from skirts and dresses to clutch bags, this is one for all you magpies out there.

Eastern inspired and flowing with tassels, the Dolce and Gabbana show was something to behold too. Come summer everything gets a little more relaxed and bohemian and this collection transports you to faraway shores. A key piece is the tasselled bag, invest now and team with sheer layers to get the look. Pastels are an obvious spring trend, but I personally can’t get enough. Christopher Kane sent pastel drenched models in midi skirts and sweatshirts down his runway and it was one of my favourite SS14 shows.

Which celeb is nailing it right now style wise?

One celeb that never fails to inspire me is Solange Knowles,  she always gets it right. We could all steal a little of her style! The bright colours, the bold lipsticks, the clashing prints; she’s not afraid to mix it up and stand out. And with summer just around the corner, she’s the perfect celeb to look to.

If we were going to pick one essential to have in our wardrobe, what should it be?

For me, it’s all about a simple black midi dress. I have a couple, from cami and high neck styles to midi t-shirt dresses. Such a simple piece can be styled so many different ways by mixing it with different jackets, accessories and shoes. Buy one and you’ll wonder what you ever did without it!

Festival season has just kicked off- what are some tips to be best dressed at the fest?

Festivals are all about having fun, and it all starts with fashion! So don’t be afraid to stand out, they’re the perfect place to experiment with bright colours, loud accessories and quirky sunglasses. If you’re feeling bold test out henna tattoos and body embellishments like Kendall Jenner did at this year’s Coachella festival – we totally loved her look!

And never leave without packing layers, wellies and something waterproof, it is NOT about getting caught out by the weather!

Very ‘Bring the Colour’ for SS14

We have a lot of love for Very right now. Their awesome ‘Bring the Colour’ campaign has us dreaming of Summer, even though we have only just hit Spring! Hayley Phipps, Visual Merchandiser for Very gave us the inside scoop on the new collection, her styling secrets and why Victoria Beckham’s haircuts shouldn’t always be copied!

bubbleimageWhat are the key trends we should all be shopping this season?

For Spring/ Summer 14, Very is particularly loving colour (the brighter the better), all things tribal, pastels, sporty inspired pieces, blossoming florals, monochrome is still key too, the list could go on! We have loads of trends for our customers to shop this season.

Tell us all about the ‘Bring the Colour’ collection. It’s super cool for spring!

Well I think the fashion speaks for itself, all our collections are really strong this season. ‘Bring the Colour’ is as much about our attitude to fashion and dressing as it is about the trend. The message is about being brave with colour, wearing these bright hues wherever you’re going, even to the office. I think this winter seemed really long and dull so launching the collection and campaign at this time was about saying a firm goodbye to winter and a big hello to spring, and what better way to signify that change than with colour? We wanted to brighten everyone’s mood with our fabulous fashion. That is where the concept for the campaign came from, with the world appearing dull and grey and the fashion injecting the colour in to it.

Who is the collection aimed at?

The great thing about colour and this campaign is that it includes everyone. Anyone can wear colour no matter what your age, size or style, and as an online department store we have something to suit everyone too!!

How would you style it?

If you’re brave and you want to make a statement this spring, wear one colour in different tones, head to toe. In past seasons we have seen colour blocking as a key look but this season try to stick to one colour for a more modern take on the trend.
However if you’re not so confident with colour, start with just injecting pops of colour with shoes and accessories.

Beauty Trends @ Oscars ‘14

So we had pastels, pale metallic and block colours sweeping the boards at Sunday night’s Oscars style awards, but what of the beauty looks? Who totally rocked it on the night, well check our hot list below…

Margot Robbie’s Gothic Delight: Wow. Margot looks a wee bit different with jet black locks and gothic make up, but you know what, it totes suits her! Seriously, we reckon she suits going over to the dark side, so here’s hoping she keeps it after she’s finished shooting whatever it is she is filming. No woman would go this drastic without a good reason!

Lupita’s Sweet as a Cherry: She’s the lady of the moment and looks sensational in pale blue. Cinderella, who exactly!? Along with the dreamy Prada number which has placed her on many a best dressed list (ours included) her gorgeous make-up deserves just as much praise. Understated eyes and a pop cherry lip make Lupita our new beauty, as well as style crush right now.
