The ULTIMATE Festival Survival Guide!

festival survival guide

It’s officially festival season Shopcaders! As Glastonbury kicks off today and with Wireless, V, Reading and Lovebox all just around the corner, we thought we’d put together a little festival survival guide to get you through in style. Or at the very least, leave you looking half decent 😉

It’s all in the packing…

You have two options here:

A) Small backpack: We say small, because there have been those who show up with the world’s biggest backpacking bag. Pack light and don’t waste your money on a designer number because we guarantee it will be as muddy as you by the end.

B) Bumbag: Moschino have made them cool again, need we say more?

DO NOT take a suitcase… people will laugh at you.

Lookin’ good…

It goes without saying that you have to rock up at your festival of choice looking as cool as humanly possible. It also goes without saying that you won’t be washing for four days, so how can you keep up this stylish façade?

Face: Go glitter mad. Glitter covers everything and will officially replace your foundation for the duration. Not a fan of glitter? Then face paint and stickers are equally acceptable here. False lashes are not exactly essential, but they look pretty and will finish off your drag homage nicely 😉 If all else fails… buy a wig.

Hair: Thank god for dry shampoo, we’re sure you will agree. Blow dry your hair on the day of departure and wave goodbye to a brush for the best part of a week. Repeat after us… wake, spray, ruffle and style. Hair ties, hair chalk, headbands and this summer’s must have- floral crowns will make sure your hair stays looking fresh, even if the rest of you smells a bit funky.

Nails: Opt for nail wraps before you go and take a few spare sets to change it up to suit your mood.

Look: Wellies and a rain mac will see you through in style this festival season. Other than that, go for a super cool statement tee, denim cut offs, your shades of shame (they hide everything) and a sweat you can chuck on if it gets a bit chilly. Our biggest piece of advice here? KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Shopcade Store Quick 5 Mins With…DIY Nails!

We’re huge DIY Nails fans here @Shopcade HQ and are mega proud to have Tammy and her nail creations on sale on our Shopcade Store! We thought it was high time to meet the face behind the brand and grab a quick five mins with the lady herself on her fave designs, who her customer base is and of course, the hottest nail trends for summer!

Hey Tammy! What made you start DIY Nails?

I studied Clothing Design and Technology at uni, but after getting super into nail art while I was writing my dissertation (don’t worry I managed to get a 1st class honours even with all that nail painting!) I found myself running pop-up nail art bars at vintage fairs/boutiques and selling hand painted false nails on Etsy in my spare time. After hearing girls say “I wish I could do nail art but I’m rubbish” or “I just don’t have the time or patience” time and time again I noticed a gap in the market for a fun, quirky and easy to apply nail art product that girls like my friends, who were more into fashion than nails, would buy. Nail wraps were dominating the market, nail pens require a lot of skill and nail stampers and stencils are quite tricky to use, so I decided to re-vamp the old school nail decal. Nail decals have been around for years but they were mostly tacky flowers, patterns and hideous copies of cartoon characters that cost 99p and took two weeks to ship from China, so I was like “let’s make these cool”, and here I am two years later!

What is your favourite design from your collection available on Shopcade Store?

Aw I’m going to say the Betty decals because who doesn’t love Betty! She’s my little french bulldog sidekick and she has the cutest, smooshy face in the world. I love that they’re one of the best sellers across all of our outlets, she gets extra treats for that.

What nail art trends do you think are going to be huge this summer?

Everyone’s going to be wearing our decals…watch this space! Other than that, I’ve seen a huge rise in special effect topcoats this year. NCLA’s “I like it on Top” Holographic topcoats, Nails Inc’s “Floral” range and of course, good old matte topcoats will be really big. Luckily these all work amazingly with our products too.
