One word comes to mind when describing the #streetstyle at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, hot! Both the weather and the fashion was enough to make you short of breath.

Fashionistas braced the heat to strut their best looks from simple and classic to edgy and retro. There was something for everyone. The Lincoln Center was full of unique fashions from elaborate gowns to grunge looks and everything in between. Models, bloggers and editors alike swarmed the scene in their best summer attires.

The most popular looks included lots of black, white and neutral colors from head to toe. There were also a few trips back in time with some looks from the seventies encompassing the flared pant look, as well as the shift dress looks from the sixties.

A lot of the #streetstyles also included wide-leg trousers and full skirts, the bigger, the better and of course lots of fabulous sunglasses to keep out that NYC glare.

If you’re looking for fresh ideas and must haves for your closet then put your shades on and prepare to see some bright stars straight from the streets of NYC.

Speaking of stars, we managed to catch a certain global fashionista/superstar (hint- it’s only bloomin’ Rihanna!) hitting up the Alexander Wang show looking immaculate in denim. Have a look at our exclusive video below of her arriving and check out our interviews with some other bloggers too!

Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day? Certainly not us!

Couldn’t help but take notice of these fashion divas as they took the scene by storm in their classy attires; pure power dressing vs peaceful hippy!

Very ‘Bring the Colour’ for SS14

on

We have a lot of love for Very right now. Their awesome ‘Bring the Colour’ campaign has us dreaming of Summer, even though we have only just hit Spring! Hayley Phipps, Visual Merchandiser for Very gave us the inside scoop on the new collection, her styling secrets and why Victoria Beckham’s haircuts shouldn’t always be copied!

bubbleimageWhat are the key trends we should all be shopping this season?

For Spring/ Summer 14, Very is particularly loving colour (the brighter the better), all things tribal, pastels, sporty inspired pieces, blossoming florals, monochrome is still key too, the list could go on! We have loads of trends for our customers to shop this season.

Tell us all about the ‘Bring the Colour’ collection. It’s super cool for spring!

Well I think the fashion speaks for itself, all our collections are really strong this season. ‘Bring the Colour’ is as much about our attitude to fashion and dressing as it is about the trend. The message is about being brave with colour, wearing these bright hues wherever you’re going, even to the office. I think this winter seemed really long and dull so launching the collection and campaign at this time was about saying a firm goodbye to winter and a big hello to spring, and what better way to signify that change than with colour? We wanted to brighten everyone’s mood with our fabulous fashion. That is where the concept for the campaign came from, with the world appearing dull and grey and the fashion injecting the colour in to it.

Who is the collection aimed at?

The great thing about colour and this campaign is that it includes everyone. Anyone can wear colour no matter what your age, size or style, and as an online department store we have something to suit everyone too!!

How would you style it?

If you’re brave and you want to make a statement this spring, wear one colour in different tones, head to toe. In past seasons we have seen colour blocking as a key look but this season try to stick to one colour for a more modern take on the trend.
However if you’re not so confident with colour, start with just injecting pops of colour with shoes and accessories.

Christmas Blogger Special: Amy Valentine shares her style inspiration with Shopcade

on

blog.image-Amy Valentine.QA-collage4-151113-uk

Beauty and style blogger Amy Valentine chats about her love of Pokémon, her top nail tips and why she thinks Britain’s fashion darling Ashish would be a good Christmas tree designer! Welcome to her pink world of fun…

Welcome to our Christmas special! Tell us what’s in your Shopcade wish list?

Lots of sparkles and cosy layers for winter!

What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

I think the best present I’ve ever received is my Nikon D3200. It’s the camera I use for all my blog stuff and I use it nearly every day! I can’t exactly remember the worst present I’ve received, but it’s the thought that counts!

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

I do indeed, it has got to be my new Vivienne Westwood handbag I got for my birthday – I love it so much I’ll be using it constantly!

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree. Who would you choose to design it and why?

I can’t imagine what the tree would look like if it was designed by Ashish – probably covered with sequins and obscenities, it would be awesome!

Which film puts you in the spirit of Christmas?

Probably Elf – it’s hilarious and always puts me in a festive mood.

What type of Christmas tree would you be?

If I was a Christmas tree I’d definitely be pink, with lots of sparkly decorations please!

So, let’s move onto your blog! You describe yourself as socially awkward. Why is that?

That’s quite a question – but I guess it’s pretty self-explanatory; I’m not the most confident person in real life, that’s all!

What’s the one trend that you can’t have enough of?

I am loving tartan at the moment and although it was more of a spring/summer trend, monochrome has made its way into winter and I’m a sucker for a good tonal outfit.

You have a special section about nails in your blog. Care to share your best tips and favourite products?

I do indeed! My favourite nail varnish brand is definitely OPI and I’m getting much more into deeper colours now that autumn is upon us. My tip would be to invest in a good top coat, as it helps nail varnish stay for so much longer!

What is the best and the worst part of being a blogger?

The best part is obviously the gifts you get and also I’ve made some lovely blogger friends and attended some great parties – although blogging is extremely time consuming and I spend almost every hour of every day doing something blog related!

What’s the funniest/weirdest email or comment you have received from a fan?

I love receiving messages from my followers, although I’m not much of a fan of creepy foreign guys asking me to webcam with them… no thanks!

Where do you get inspiration from when it comes to style?

From other fashion bloggers or Tumblr photos usually. I find that trends appear earlier there – also there’s always fresh looks to get inspiration from and interpret them into your own personal style.

What kind of combinations make you cringe when you see them?

I can’t really think of anything off the top of my head – maybe things like matching tracksuits and that kind of thing!

blog.image-Amy Valentine.QA-collage7-151113-uk

If you could press a button and control everyone’s taste, what would you make people wear?

I think if I had to choose I would not push the button – just because although there are some people with less desirable taste in clothes, it would be far too boring if everyone had the same style!

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

Definitely a high street store to release a budget version of the gorgeous leather and sequin Filles A Papa jacket that’s featured in my Shopcade wish list!

What is it that you like about Pokémon so much?

It was one of the major things I grew up with so it has just stayed with me – I got the new game recently and love it!

And finally…Aliens invade the planet and you need to convince them to spare your blog! What do you say to them?

Hmm, maybe ‘please spare my blog – I’ll let you share my wardrobe…?’

We don’t know about you, but we heart Amy! To find out more about the Pink and Pokemon Queen herself, check out her blog here >> Amy Valentine

Style File: Little Mix

on

It’s nearly two years since Little Mix lifted the X Factor crown (we know, where has the time gone?!) and the girls are back looking hotter than ever.

The cutest lot in the business, we loved their refreshing attitude to style- wearing WTF they liked with two fingers stuck up to the industry and any doubters- these ladies meant business and we had a lotta love for them.

‘Wings’ was all natural make up and cutesy denim, ‘How ya doin’?’ had us dip dying our hair and breaking out the ‘kapow’ t-shirts and spiky headbands, so how will new tune, ‘Move’ compare in the style stakes?

Well, on first glance we reckon it’s a fashion hit. Rocking monochrome, tartan checks, crop tops, jumpsuits, sharp tailoring, true blue and high collared shirts, this is the grown up Little Mix and we are loving it!

Like the Spice Girls (we know, retro right?!) All Saints (remember them?!) and Girls Aloud (the queens of pop) before them, each Little Mix-er has their own style. Let’s break it down…

blog.image-little.mix.1-281013-uk

Leigh-Anne: All about bodycon and big hair, Leigh-Anne loves to mix and match textures and is the queen of clashing prints. We don’t know many people who could make stripy leggings and purple leather work, but somehow she manages it!

blog.image-little.mix.2-281013-uk

Perrie: Known as the experimenter in our eyes, Perrie will give anything a go- two tones of pink hair on top of bleached blonde? That is BRAVE! We’re loving her relaxed tailored boy meets girl style here, with the fedora hat making a star turn. Get one quick!

blog.image-little.mix.3-281013-uk

Jesy: The urban queen, Jesy looks gorgeous in this vid, showing off her newly toned abs in tight fitting tees, customized denim cut offs and big Dr Martins. Gal got attitude and isn’t afraid to show it.

blog.image-little.mix.4-281013-uk

Jade: Cute as a button, don’t ya agree?! All about the braces, babydoll dresses and bowties in the beginning, Jade has gone all grown up on us here with high collars and 90s style jumpsuits. We heart.

Lists We Love: Monochrome Madness

on

blog.image-Monochrome.Madness-251013-uk (1)

We made it! Friday is here and the weekend is just around the corner, so to help us celebrate here’s our fave list this week….Monochrome Madness.

Made by our fab curator, Laura Kidman, this list has it all. Amazing monochrome tees, fab body con dresses and uber chic jackets. We would quite happily shop it all!

Monochrome is making a style splash online as well with faves like Missguided, Motel Rocks and iKrush showing a lot of love for black and white at the moment.

Celebs are also getting in on the act, with the gorgeous Mollie King giving monochrome the official seal of approval by including it in her Mollie Loves edit for Oasis.

Still not convinced?! Learn a little bit more about the style queen who created the list and shop it below!

Shopcade Style File: Laura Kidman

Signature Style: Casual, Urban, Fresh

Lovin’ this list ’cause: We’re loving the pretty pastels and everything, but come on, it’s winter!  Who doesn’t love a bit of black and white? Chic, stylish and will NEVER go out of style. We  heart.

Trendspotting: In The Nude

on

From a wee age we’re taught to put away our lights and whites after Labor Day but this fall we’re breaking all the rules. The sunny days may be behind us but we’re still ready to get naked.

Get your mind out of the gutter, girls!

We’re talking about all the shades of nude that you can use to buff up your wardrobe before the dark days of winter. Mix in a little cream, taupe, tan, or beige for a modern monochrome look. Pop in black accessories if you want to break it up a bit.

Still shy about baring it all? Test out the fall fashion trend with a neutral nail varnish or lip lacquer. We bet you’ll be ready to get undressed in no time. WINK.
