Happy Birthday Victoria Beckham! Shopcade salute you and your amazing style. Spice Girl, WAG and now respected designer, you could say VB has accomplished a lot over 40 years. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we have roped in curator (and mega fan) Natalie Corner to chart Victoria’s style evolution over the years.

Over to you Nat…

nataliecorner“If you grew up in the 90s you were a Spice Girls fan. Period. Even if you didn’t grow up then, you became one in 2007 when the reunion of the five girls who invented ‘girl power’ happened and brought happiness upon the world once again.

Everyone had their favourite ‘Spice’, when I was growing up it was Scary Spice for obvious reasons. But now there’s no denying that my favourite is Victoria Beckham, who has spent many years trying to shed that ‘Posh’ moniker.

Victoria was always known for wearing a lot of black when she was in the Spice Girls, it was her character signature. The most memorable of them was a short ‘Gucci’ mini from the very early days that also appeared in the – bad in a good way – SpiceWorld: The Movie.

In a collaboration with Skype earlier this year Victoria spoke about the look, confessing that in actual fact it was from the high street: ”The first dress that I wore in the Spice Girls, which everybody thought was a little black Gucci dress, was actually from Miss Selfridge – it wasn’t a little back Gucci dress.”

That super mini dress theme continued as she walked the red carpet in gold lame with her fellow Spice’s at the 1997 Billboard Awards and again at the MTV Europe Music Awards in the same year. Not to mention those terrible matching pinstripe suits, canes and cigars(?!) the girls all wore to their film premiere!

When the Spice Girls announced they were parting ways to “pursue solo projects”, Victoria, the one who never really sang, went ahead and launched a bid for that coveted number one spot with her first single ‘Out of Your Mind’ with Dane Bowers and Truesteppers. It was a tough chart battle, getting pipped to the post by Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s summer anthem Groovejet. The look Victoria went for during her solo career was very interesting(!) working slashed leather, lip rings and the odd few skunk-like extensions.

After being crowned the ‘IT’ couple and nicknamed Posh and Becks, she married successful footballer David Beckham with the wedding exclusively covered by OK! Magazine. She wore an ivory Vera Wang gown, followed by hideous matching purple outfits for the reception.

2013 is like sooo last year and so are the trends! It’s time to take a look at the hottest 2014 fashion trends due to hit the high street any day now.

We’ve made it nice and easy in our A-Z of top trends which will see you through the year in style. So sit back, relax and let’s start at the very beginning…

A is for Androgynous: Big in 2013, even bigger in 2014, the boy/girl divide is closing and it seems we are embracing dressing like our other halves. Sharp tailoring, crisp white shirts and the one-off boyfriend jumper thrown in and you’ll be sorted.

B is for Bohemian: Free spirits rejoice! Paisley prints, mixed fabrics and fringed accessories all make up this trend and will start to filter onto the rails in their droves come early spring, so snap up the key pieces early and you’ll be set for festival season in style.

C is for Checks: We teased this as a trend to watch in our SS14 preview last year- checks are set to be the print to watch this season, mark our words! Think loose checks in candy colours as your must buy now and tightly woven checks in darker colours for later on in the year and you can’t go wrong.

Inspired by London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week A/W 2013 (LFW) is hitting the catwalks tomorrow and as top models strut the latest trends from some of the biggest fashion houses, we thought now is the time to hear from our very own Shopcade fashion experts.

Shopcade decided to ask three of our very own fashionistas what particular brands they’re loving for London Fashion Week and to give us some style tips of their own…

Fashionista No.1: Hannah Phillips from BANGS

I chose Harrods because…
Harrods is classically lavish and reflects on the British style.

The trends you’ll see me in this Spring/Summer are…
I love the black and white monochrome that’s storming the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2013, whether it be vertical or horizontal stripes or block colors – it’s going to be huge this season!

The product I love most on Shopcade for LFW this February is…
It’s quite hard to choose just one product from Shopcade, but this Skull Padlock Yellow Clutch Bag by Alexander McQueen is to die for and works really well with this Asymmetric Leather Jacket!

Fashionista No.2: Nathalie Bishop from NO NO COCO

I am loving Miss Selfridge because…
Miss Selfridgeis really good at interpreting catwalk trends. The vintage style collections are always really nice too so I chose the brand as it is always one of my go-to shops for interpreting trends on a reasonable budget.

The trends you’ll see me in this Spring/Summer are…
London Fashion Week kicks off on Friday 15th and I am so excited for it all. Every season it’s always really fun to see what big trends are going to emerge. This summer I am going to be wearing a lot of monochrome a la Louis Vuitton either that or a whole lot of blue and pink.

The product I love most on Shopcade for LFW this February is…
I’ve got a few favorites on Shopcade at the moment and have added them all to my feed. My absolute favorite is Acne‘s Intarsia Knit Dillard Jumper, I would wear it everyday!

Fashionista No.3: Natasha Footman from GIRL IN THE LENS

I chose Reiss because…
Reiss is a fantastic shop for getting staple pieces to hit all the key trends. Monochrome is all the rage this season, and Reiss have some fantastic basics that will be great for building black and white outfits, but I’m also loving the other trends, such as metal accessories, florals, oriental patterns, geometry and mannish silhouettes. Plus, the great thing about this season’s trends is that they can all be mixed and matched.

The trends you’ll see me in this Spring/Summer are…
LFW has yet to kick off this season, but from last season’s runways it was all about sheer whites for me. So elegant and chic, but with a real modern feel. As seen on Dion Lee and Christopher Kane.

The product I love most on Shopcade for LFW this February is…
As it’s looking to stay cold, a simple white jumper like this one from Reiss is a must. It’s pieces like this that you can build multiple outfits around. I’d layer this jumper over a black maxi and team with a small cross-body bag for a chic fashion week look, and the next day pair it with ripped boyfriend jeans, pointed-toe heels and a clutch. Plus, it’s a fantastic piece for everyday wear too with skinny jeans and boots!
