It’s the first day in recovery of the extravaganza that was London Collections: Men, the four day whirlwind of fashion, press, buyers, parties, designers, models, and booze has gone down in the books of fashion history for at least another season! With our bevy of bloggers in hand, we came, saw and conquered from the pop-up, presentations, shows and parties.

The army of straight-laced fashionisto’s, the boys all oozing of dash and flair in their own special ways accompanied us and lended their eyes for the day. “This is the first time I’ve done the London Collections: Men, it’s been great to be a part of and seeing all of the city’s industry in one place”- Max

What’s on your shopping list this season?

Wow! This season first on the list is H By Hudson, Leather Brogue Boots I just got myself a pair. The level of detail is second to none, and I simply love the colour. These bad boys will go with anything and last forever. They represent all that is good about today’s culture without verging on East London hipster desperation.

Also you cant go wrong with leather boots –these are this seasons must.  With this, I add to my list Adidas high tops most recently tweeted about. These represent all things Velcro/ #90s #Olive and are super cool and can be matched with fitted guys joggers, skinny jeans and a plain T and or Jean jacket. YES Velcro high tops are back in a big way! You heard it here first.

My third addition is a black roll neck jumper; these were in years ago and now they’re back! And yes I’m adding this to this season’s list- Just putting it out there.

I’m also adding to the list finally- my Autumn/ Winter Black Francis Lambskin Leather Jacket – no more needs to be said!

What do you think is the thing that makes people’s style really stand out?

Uniqueness and colour- I’m all over olive greens/ and mustards at the moment. But it’s really all about how you wear it that makes the style.

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

Tapered fit smart cuffed joggers, topped with large t-shirt and possibly a sharp slim fitted tailored bomber jacket. I am not brave enough to wear cuffed joggers yet, but it will happen!

London Collections: Men SS15 happened earlier this week and Shopcade hit the Bloomsbury area of London to see what was going to be hot next year in Menswear!

Joseph Turvey

Renowned for using feminine fabrics to create upmarket sportswear, this season he has continued his experimentation of different fabrics and techniques, continuing to bring luxury to streetwear.  He hand painted silk and brushed cottons and created extra textural depth by quilting a fabric or adding huge sequin roundels or using feminine, iridescent fabrics to juxtapose masculine streetwear.

Each model was painted with Japanese letters and imagery – a particular inspiration this season was Koi Karp – Joseph used hand drawn techniques to incorporate into his signature illustrations found on his silk ensembles.

Next Spring/Summer in the eyes of Joseph Turvey is bright, colourful and sophisticated, yet easy wearing.

Shopcade Does: Lazy Oaf new store launch party

Lazy Oaf’s flagship store in Ganton Street, just off Carnaby Street, London, had been under construction for a week so when we were invited to the store relaunch, being as nosy as I am, I wanted to take a look at the new surroundings..

With sparkling drinks and Desperado’s on hand we had a sneak peak at the new men‘s and women’s S/S ’14 collection! The new collection has its usual 90s throwbacks or play on words of major popular labels.

I’m a bit obsessed with matching co-ords so my faves had to be the ‘Lazy Oaf Big Fat Yes Sweatshirt’ and matching ‘I said Yes’ Skirt. Another had to be the ‘Lazy Oaf Armless Sweatshirt’, perfect to wear either casually with jeans and sneakers during the day or with mega high flatforms & opaque tights at night.

Ubiquitously known for their playful patterns and satirical statements, Lazy Oaf delivered again this season with their men’s Join the dots‘ and pizza theme throughout. A huge thumbs up from us for their bright and playful attitude during this dreary time of year! Wear brights and hopefully the weather will start reflecting that!

BETCHES LOVE: NYFW FALL TRENDS

betches love this nyfw

We’re three-quarters of the way done with fashion week season. So far, we’ve spotted street style at New York Fashion Week, threw a crazy bash in London for LFW, and, as we speak, have our eyes glued to Style.com for all the new collections in Milan. If you’re anything like us, you’re already plotting your moves for next fall. Of course, we can’t wait for spring and summer but September through November are our favorite months to put outfits together. Hello, boots, scarves, and chunky knit sweaters! You know exactly what we mean.

After scanning the runways of some of our favorite designers for NYFW fall trends, we started to notice a handful of trends that, um, we weren’t so sure we’d be embracing…even six months from now. We asked our friends at Betches Love This – the snarky internet-BFFs that tell it like it is on everything from bros to celeb style – for their take on sleeveless coats, menswear-insipred footwear, bright red, and more. Because, if anyone will tell us the truth, they will!

“Don’t eh’stomp your last season high heeled Loubs at me honay.” But really, I don’t know any straight man who would ever wear a bow on his shoe, so this isn’t menswear. This is a pointy leather shoe with a chunky kitten heel. And if you ever wore these out, no man would ever hit on you no matter how hot you were, because he’d think – nay- know you were a lesbian.

Omg. RED. I would have never thought to wear red if someone, especially the man who designs dresses like Zoe Saldana’s for the Golden Globes, had come up with the idea! His inspo must’ve definitely been Game of the Thrones Red Wedding. Anyway, Redddddd!! Taylor Swift must be pleased with herself.

Last week saw the London Collections: Men take place; undoubtedly a highlight of the fashion calendar for any fashion fanatics.  The three-day event played host to some of the industry’s finest designers and provided a stage for them to showcase their collections for Spring/Summer 2014.

Topman, London Collections: MenOne of the collections that I was most looking forward to seeing was the Topman Design show on day one. Not only is TMD now seen as a leader in menswear, their unique, cutting-edge pieces are also sold at an affordable price online and at their Oxford Circus flagship store, providing the opportunity for fashionistas who are on a budget to own some of these excellent catwalk designs. The TMD collections are also often an indication of what is to come from the Topman brand as a whole during that specific season. The TMD show certainly did not disappoint. The collection included silk shirts with intricate western patterns; worn with mirrored sunglasses, silver belts and brogues. The collection once again proved that TMD is at the forefront of men’s fashion and I, for one, can’t wait for these pieces to become available to buy.

Christopher Kane’s SS14 collection was also a favourite of many at the London Collections. Inspired by 3D mapping of human faces, his collection, using neon design on black t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and shorts, provided an eye-catching and unusual set of designs.

For fans of bold print, design duo Agi and Sam, fresh from launching their new collection for Topman, displayed suits with bright print as well as striking and vibrant orange blazers and overcoats. James Long also showcased an intriguing collection titled ‘Beyond the Velodrome’. With colourful and striped skin-tight base layers inspired by cycling jerseys, coupled with knitwear, leather jackets and blazers, Long certainly provided one of the most exciting collections whilst still sticking to his trademark design.

Perhaps my favourite collection overall was that of Burberry Prorsum. The retro-inspired collection of classic coats, jumpers and shirts provided a collection that, whilst having its roots in the past, certainly has a place in today’s fashion world. The pastel coloured coats and jumpers layered over vibrant teal, yellow and blue shirts and bold red ties gave a real vibrant and modern feel to these classic looks.

The fantastic collections displayed last week showed us once again that the future of men’s fashion is in very safe hands.
