#GetPacking: Wandering Style – What to Wear on Your European Adventure!

Over the next three months we will be plotting our summer getaways and we hope you’ll join us! Every week we’ll be packing our bags and traveling to a new destination with Contiki, the worldwide leader in travel tours for 18-35 year olds. Each destination means a whole new wardrobe fit for the locale. On our journey you’ll be able to get tips from top fashion bloggers on beauty and style and sneak a peek at their travel essentials. This week we’re preparing for our European adventure with globetrotting fashion blogger, Francesca Garcia-Miro of Drifting Nomad. Find out what’s in her Shopcade and get her tips on what to wear in her three fave European cities.

I’ve been living in Europe for the past 11 years and have been able to travel, get lost, learn and absorb various and diverse cultures. If I had to pick three of my favorite destinations -with the risk of sounding cliche and cheesy – (and probably because I still have a lot to explore, get to know and learn) they would most definitely be Paris, London and a tie between Barcelona and Amsterdam.

is simply magical and really, who doesn’t love a city where you can find Nutella crepes in every corner? I did a few posts with some of my favorite corners of Paris last time I went for Valentines day. You can find them here & here. My ideal outfit in Paris would be a long peplum pastel skirt and a striped t-shirt with silver or gold oxfords and a nice hat. A cute yellow dress with some knee socks and a fun coat if it gets chilly could work as well. Of course, a camera always in hand. If I travel during winter a nice fur coat with some skinny leather jeans are a great option.

London_Big_Ben_Phone_boxLONDON is grey, gloomy and it rains too much but I dare to say the variety of cultures and amazing people you find around the city is very similar if not greater than what you find in New York (and I’m a die heard NYC defender.) Fashion, style and personality abounds the city, it’s impossible to not get inspired. You can constantly feel inside a Mary Poppins scene though some neighborhoods can get extremely sketchy. During winter I feel like camel coats can be the perfect fit or an all white outfit with a cute pastel color oversized coat seems like something I would wear as well. London during summer simply calls for a crop tied vintage blouse, some high waist old mom jeans, a bandana wrapped around your head with some cute JuJu sandals or Supergas as well.

amsterdam.html_IMAGE1AMSTERDAM is amazing. A city surrounded by beautiful canals & people in bicycles. On the food note, their Olie Bollens in winter are to die for. As a matter of fact, take a look at some of my first posts where coincidentally they were of one of my trips to Amsterdam. Of course, you will see these balls that I am talking about in the first picture. If you haven’t noticed by now that I am a sucker for all things dough, IE: Funnel cakes, pancakes, doughnuts, cookie dough, etc., take a trip with me to Amsterdam and watch me eat 15 of those dough balls a day. Oh and cheese, I’ve seen cheese be made here and tried ALL sorts of them. What else can anyone ask for? (Oh yeah, HEINEKEN beer) The perfect outfit for a trip to Amsterdam would be some ripped jeans, a fluffy coat, a pair of Supergas a coal beanie and a backpack for when riding your bike.

The London Girl’s Style Survival Kit

OK, so checking out BuzzFeed the other day we came across this HILAR (seriously amusing) post on the catastrophes that face a London lady every morning on her commute.

It made the girls in the office LOL, so much so we decided to create an emergency kit to help you combat the morning woe of the rush hour hell and stay ridiculously good looking at the same time!

Drum roll please….presenting the Shopcade Style Survival Kit! Check out the corresponding traumas from the original article below and get the lowdown on how we think you can brighten up your day! You’re most welcome…

1. “Many catastrophes strike on the underground, when you have to rugby tackle your way onto the train” Our solution? Elbow pads of course!

2. There’s that excruciating moment someone punches you in the boob” We can’t guarantee that that guy with bad BO won’t elbow you in the boob, but at least you’ll be well supported with our dress and lingerie (tit tape)to keep you in place.

3. “London girls do their make-up en route. No seat means you’re just going to HAVE to do it standing up”  Tricky this one, we don’t want you to poke yourself in the eye, but we heart a curled lash. Solution? heated curlers! They’ll at least stay clamped to your eyelashes, so less chance of pokeage. We take that as a positive :-)

4.”There’s always some weirdo staring at you when you apply your lipstick” We love a good lippy. Not the smearage that comes with applying it on public transport though, so stick to lip balm to avoid any embarrassing smears.

12. No time to fret. You were supposed to meet your friend on the platform. AAAH!”  Binoculars can be a cool solution and the plus side is you’ll never lose your friend on the platform again. (Yes we know this isn’t exactly a pair of binoculars, but we thought this was waaaayyyy more stylish!)

23. “Great plan until you go for work drinks. Everyone else is rocking a sequin clutch and you look like you’re going on a school trip”  Oversized clutches are uber fashionable right now, so stay style savvy with a big beaut that will easily fit your heels in for day and look ultra glam for night. Et Voila!

25. When you forget your dry shampoo it’s kind of a huge fiasco” Dry shampoo is a saviour most days, or you know any day really. Make sure you ALWAYS carry this in your bag.

26. “Even worse when you forget your deodorant” Ditto for deodorant. Do we really need to say why?!

“It’s all about the creativity, innovation, and fun”, says Amber Atherton about London Fashion Week, “as Britain’s biggest fashion event has come to an end”. We couldn’t agree more!

LFW Special

As I bumped into Markus Lupfer on the bus the day after LFW madness had ended, we pondered the success of the week and the promise of Paris! Highlights for me this LFW were definitely Fashion East, ASHISH, Anya Hindmarch, SISTER by Sibling, Simone Rocha, and Sophia Webster Shoes. Another important thing was the abundance of digital led creativity, especially from brands like Burberry and Anya Hindmarch; I also know everyone was regularly checking the #lfw hashtag at My Flash Trash HQ!

As I started packing for Milan with another fashion adventure beginning, I couldn’t help but smile at all the British charm, talent, and true English rock ‘n’ roll fun that’s gone down over the last week.

Check out my LFW inspired list to look fabulous next season!

Sexy heels, dreamy prints, and great after-shows tunes were on Amber’s check list for the third day of London Fashion Week…

LFW Special

Day Three was spent mostly swooning over Sophia Webster’s amazing shoes. Jelly sandal heels and scrabble letters on a stiletto spelling out ‘KILLER HEEL’ were enough to make anyone forget the rain, which continued to pour down much to the dismay of many umbrella-less fashion babes.

Lily Cole’s experimental dance at Vivienne Westwood was probably the most talked about thing of the day, whilst Mary Katrantzou’s dreamy head to toe floral graphics collection was definitely my most loved to date.

Off to Sanderson in the evening, where my super duper singer friend, Yadi performed at the ‘Love is the Law’ magazine party – a hop, skip and a jump from swanky new hotel the Edition, where my Flash Trash girl city bracelets made a debut at the launch of Paula Goldstein’s (of Purple Magazine) new site!

Gin and Prosecco punch fuelled the crowd as I caught up with Edie on her NYC adventures, before we all went downstairs to Dominic Jones’ rave. Chelsea Leyland spun fresh hip hop beats and my Sophia Webster shoes were the perfect dance till dawn companions!

Inspired by London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week A/W 2013 (LFW) is hitting the catwalks tomorrow and as top models strut the latest trends from some of the biggest fashion houses, we thought now is the time to hear from our very own Shopcade fashion experts.

Shopcade decided to ask three of our very own fashionistas what particular brands they’re loving for London Fashion Week and to give us some style tips of their own…

Fashionista No.1: Hannah Phillips from BANGS

I chose Harrods because…
Harrods is classically lavish and reflects on the British style.

The trends you’ll see me in this Spring/Summer are…
I love the black and white monochrome that’s storming the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2013, whether it be vertical or horizontal stripes or block colors – it’s going to be huge this season!

The product I love most on Shopcade for LFW this February is…
It’s quite hard to choose just one product from Shopcade, but this Skull Padlock Yellow Clutch Bag by Alexander McQueen is to die for and works really well with this Asymmetric Leather Jacket!

See my full Harrods Wishlist here.

Fashionista No.2: Nathalie Bishop from NO NO COCO

I am loving Miss Selfridge because…
Miss Selfridgeis really good at interpreting catwalk trends. The vintage style collections are always really nice too so I chose the brand as it is always one of my go-to shops for interpreting trends on a reasonable budget.

The trends you’ll see me in this Spring/Summer are…
London Fashion Week kicks off on Friday 15th and I am so excited for it all. Every season it’s always really fun to see what big trends are going to emerge. This summer I am going to be wearing a lot of monochrome a la Louis Vuitton either that or a whole lot of blue and pink.

The product I love most on Shopcade for LFW this February is…
I’ve got a few favorites on Shopcade at the moment and have added them all to my feed. My absolute favorite is Acne‘s Intarsia Knit Dillard Jumper, I would wear it everyday!

See my full Miss Selfridge Wishlist Here.

Fashionista No.3: Natasha Footman from GIRL IN THE LENS

I chose Reiss because…
Reiss is a fantastic shop for getting staple pieces to hit all the key trends. Monochrome is all the rage this season, and Reiss have some fantastic basics that will be great for building black and white outfits, but I’m also loving the other trends, such as metal accessories, florals, oriental patterns, geometry and mannish silhouettes. Plus, the great thing about this season’s trends is that they can all be mixed and matched.

The trends you’ll see me in this Spring/Summer are…
LFW has yet to kick off this season, but from last season’s runways it was all about sheer whites for me. So elegant and chic, but with a real modern feel. As seen on Dion Lee and Christopher Kane.

The product I love most on Shopcade for LFW this February is…
As it’s looking to stay cold, a simple white jumper like this one from Reiss is a must. It’s pieces like this that you can build multiple outfits around. I’d layer this jumper over a black maxi and team with a small cross-body bag for a chic fashion week look, and the next day pair it with ripped boyfriend jeans, pointed-toe heels and a clutch. Plus, it’s a fantastic piece for everyday wear too with skinny jeans and boots!
