Get the 60s beauty look like Lana Del Rey

We’re just going to admit it… we are huge fans of Lana Del Rey here @Shopcade! Girl has amazing retro style, makes awesome music and has a make-up look most of us would kill for. Our guest blogger and star beauty curator, Polina Berdos shows us how to master the 60s siren look a la Del Rey in her fab video below.

Over to you, Polina…

“Beautiful Lana. She is such a phenomenon! I really love her classic 60s make-up and fashion style. She is so famous for her signature matte classic eye look with thick winged black eye liner, paired with nude or red lips.

In that way, she’s not only a songwriter and a singer but a make-up inspiration. Her looks make a lot of people miss 60s make-up, so I used her for inspiration when recreating this kind of look.

Lana uses a lot of natural shades, combined with a black liner. Just like in the 60s, the crease is one of the most important things to emphasise. A pair of false eyelashes is necessary in my opinion to complete her flirty eye make up.

Her thick black eyeliner gives her make up a cool retro feel. So classic, 60s mixed with a little American hipster plus sweet and chic all at the same time.

A perfect balance between classic and edgy. This tutorial will show you step by step how to achieve that siren cut crease look. You can find the products that I used and some similar products in my Shopcade List. So let’s live in the 60s for a moment!”

The Goss: Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs

Photo Credit: Miley Cyrus | Instagram

Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs: Well well, look at Miley all grown up and moody for Marc Jacobs! We had a sneaky suspicion she would reinvent herself yet again for 2014 and landing a campaign for the ever lovely Marc is one of the best ways to do it. We’re loving the super stylised vision- a million miles away from the twerking PVC outfit and hair buns. We heart.

Brit nominees announced: Awards season is going a bit nuts at the moment. Fresh from the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday and ahead of the Golden Globes this weekend, we have some goss a little closer to home… the Brit Award nominees have been announced! No surprise that One Direction are tipped for glory with four gong nominations, whilst Jessie J is up for Best British Female Solo Artist against the equally lovely Ellie Goulding. It’s going to be a corker!

David Beckham for H&M Kids: Is there nothing this man can’t do? Seriously, not content with being the most beautiful man in the world (our view, but we’re sure you agree) and modelling in his undies for H&M (swoon) he has now designed a range of kidswear for the high-street brand as well! Who would understand better than Becks on how to dress your children fashionably? Romeo is already a Burberry model and Harper will land a modelling contract any day now, you mark our words!

Nicole Kidman for Jimmy Choo: She was involved in making one of the most expensive adverts of all time for Chanel a few years ago, and now new pics have surfaced of Nicole Kidman appearing in a campaign for Jimmy Choo and well, she’s certainly not afraid of stripping off, let’s say that! Appearing in high waisted knickers and a blazer (sans bra or top, we might add!) the 46-year-old (yes, we can’t believe it either) looks stunning. Oh and the bags and shoes she’s modelling for the brand don’t look half bad either!

And Finally…

blog.image-laura.bubble-251113-ukFashion Ed’s Pick of the Day: We know it’s only the second week in January, but since the sales kicked off in December, the dregs are going to be left if you don’t get your sale shopping sorted soon. So, Shopcade to the rescue! Check out our Final Sales Picks list here and bag yourself some serious bargains before the first new season drops come later this month.

Shopcade live at the Isabel Marant for H&M launch!

Shopcade live at the Isabel Marant for H&M launch!

We here at Shopcade love a designer-high street collaboration and they come no bigger than Isabel Marant for H&M dear readers, which is why Team Shopcade camped out from 7.30am with the rest of the fashion obsessives for a peak at the collection which is already flying off the rails. Here’s the live diary of our progress…

7.30am: Coffee in hand, four bleary eyed girlies (Sanjeela- our Social Media Manager and shopping princess, Marion- our Partnerships Queen, Kriti- our Trending Feed expert and me, Laura, the Chief UK Editor and all around fashion goddess! Haha not really, but I digress) are on site and ready to suss out other like -minded ladies who are also on the hunt for a piece of fashion history.

8.00am: We’re given wristbands by the lovely H&M peeps. 10 minutes to shop at an allocated time- how civilized! The only downside is it’s not until 9.40am… more coffee anyone?!

8.30am: The fash pack are getting restless now, you can see it in their eyes! We almost forget that we’re here to cover the event for Shopcade and start sharpening our elbows. We overhear some pretty clever strategies… one person plans to run in and buy it all for her friends, another is already peeping in the windows, sussing where everything is and planning a clear run, grab, buy. These girls have clearly had their Shreddies this morning!

9am: We managed to sweet talk the lovely doorman and get a sneak peak of what is to come! We are the ULTIMATE insiders!

9.20am: This is by far the most civilised collaboration launch we have ever been to! Everyone is politely making small talk and waiting their turn. We’re uber excited for our turn to go in and shop… only 20 mins to go :-) Head over to our Twitter & Instagram pages for more images and live updates as well!

9.30am: We’re first in the queue! People are coming out with Isabel Marant for H&M bags left, right and centre!

9.40am: And we’re in! All sense has literally gone out of the window as we fight for the key pieces. Marion has grabbed the first five things she’s seen and has wandered off in search of something else. Kriti has managed to bag the last Aztec woolly cardigan and I am manically searching for the metallic dress and shredded knit I’ve had my eye on since the teaser for the collection came out.

9.50am: 10, 9, 8…. shout the H&M staff as we all scramble for last minute purchases. I actually ask the security guard if I should buy the jumper I’m desperately clinging to… his advice is ‘take it and go’ so I heed it and make one last dash around to make sure I’ve got the best items I can.

9.55am: And… it’s over. Exhilarating, crazy and totally nuts is how I would sum it up! Sanjeela made a friend during her time slot however, and they both helped each other find the size required. Mine and Kriti’s experience was not so friendly… Kriti nearly got rammed and I was pushed into a pile of scarves! In any other situation I’d be annoyed, but hey, they were ISABEL MARANT scarves, so I was pretty OK about the whole thing.

So lovely Shopcaders, that’s it! We’ve packed up our things, paid for our goodies and are now heading back to Shopcade HQ. Our verdict of the collection? TOTALLY worth it! I picked up the last lust worthy red ‘painted stripes’ sweatshirt, which will look great paired with jeans and wedge trainers for a cool off duty look. Sanjeela meanwhile invested in the gorge muted grey and blue tribal print tee after much deliberation and will wear to death with her skinnies I’m sure.

The beauty of the whole collection is that it is wearable, versatile and well priced considering the designer behind it. It feels like a diffusion of her mainstream high end line for the high street and it really doesn’t disappoint. The fab tote bags to showcase our purchases also made us feel like royalty. Well done H&M, you have done it again!

Christmas Bloggers Special: Patrick Pankalla shares his fashion secrets with Shopcade…

In the first of our Christmas blogger specials, we chat to Danish fashion blogger Patrick Pankalla about Christmas in Scandinavia, the best shopping spots in Copenhagen, and his aversion to… moon boots!

So, it’s nearly Christmas! What’s on your Shopcade wish list?

I’ve ran out of perfume, so that’s on my wish list. Otherwise you’ll find clothes, accessories, shoes, and a new Canon camera that I want so badly.

What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

The best present must have been a trip to the United States that my father arranged for me. One of the worst was a karaoke machine. I can’t sing – everybody knows that!

What would be your dream holiday destination? Would you prefer Santa’s village or some place warm and sunny?

I’d love to travel to a warm and sunny destination. It’s so damn cold here in Denmark; however, it’s part of Christmas I think. I would find it strange to celebrate Christmas somewhere sunny. That’s just not how we do it in Scandinavia.

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

Not really, but I’m always wearing something red!

What are your favourite tunes for the festive season?

I have a mix tape with the best and all the classic Christmas songs. I always listen to it during the season.

What is the one thing that you can’t have enough of during Christmas? Also, what is the one thing that you absolutely can’t stand anymore?!

I can’t get enough of confections and the Christmas dinner – so delicious. I can’t stand mulled wine.

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree. Who would you choose to design it and why?

I would love to see Maison Martin Margiela design it. I can imagine that the tree would be the strangest seen ever, but beautiful in its own way.

And what about you, what kind of Christmas tree would you be?

I love to break traditions, so I’d probably be a Christmas tree that no one has ever seen before. A non-traditional, but amazing Christmas tree!

Let’s talk about your blog now… How did you get started?

I’m a Danish fashion blogger – the biggest in Denmark in my age group. Besides that, I’m working as a freelance photographer. I always put quality in the first row, especially when it comes to my blog and its design and photo material. I try to inspire my readers in my own way, and my blog is mostly about fashion and photography, with a touch of travel and my everyday life. It all started because I wanted to inspire and share stuff with people other than my friends and family. Now I’m loving it and can’t see an everyday life without it.

You also run your own e-shop. What kind of items can we find there?

I basically sell items from my wardrobe, stuff that I can’t fit in anymore. It gets updated with new items once in a while.

Traveling seems to be an important part of your blogging life. What’s the best place you have visited so far?

I love traveling and have been doing it a lot. My all-time favourite city must be New York. I’ve been there twice and I fell in love with the city both times. I wanna live there some day – it’s a big dream of mine.

What are your favourite shopping spots in Copenhagen?

You’ll find everything on the main street called “Strøget.” You can compare it with Oxford Street in London – it’s just smaller. If you take a walk down the side streets, you’ll find the best and cosiest shops and cafes. It’s there where you’ll find the hidden treasures when it comes to shopping.

Where are we most likely to find you on a Friday night?

It’s very different from Friday to Friday. As much as I like going out drinking and clubbing, I enjoy staying home and relaxing with a cup of coffee and a great series on TV.

What’s the funniest/weirdest email or comment you have received from a fan?

A few days ago I received the following comment to an outfit post: “What size do you use in shoes? I think your feet look way too big in your shoes and it’s a no-go.” Dude, sorry that my feet are big. It’s not like I can do anything about it!’s talk about personal style now. What’s the one thing that you wouldn’t want to be seen wearing?

A kilt. That’s just odd!

What kind of combinations make you cringe when you see them?

It makes me cringe when I see people wearing denim from head to toe. I just don’t get it!

Guys and shopping seem to be a little contradictory. What about you? Do you enjoy going to the stores?

I love going shopping. I don’t understand why it’s a taboo in some circles of friends. There’s nothing better than new clothes. Get yourself together guys.

If you could press a button and control everyone’s taste, what would you make people wear?

I won’t tell  what I would make them wear, but what they shouldn’t wear. Moon boots and checkered Vans is a huge no-go.

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

That’s a tough question. I actually don’t know. If high street stores like H&M, Zara, COS and Cheap Monday just made clothes that were more fashionable and still with budget-friendly prices, then people would look more stylish.
