Even though we’re not Irish (not even close, actually!) we take the opportunity to channel a little of that Leprachaun luck every year on March 17th. That day is St. Patrick’s Day and if you’re like us (and may others around the country) you celebrate by wearing your your finest green attire with a cold pint in hand.

Since the holiday falls on a Monday this year, work and/or school will be involved. Ughhh. We’re guessing we can’t wear our new mint crop top and plaid tam o ‘shanter to the Editorial Meeting without a few side-eyes. We decided to class it up a bit with some items that incorporate our fave St. Patrick’s day themes – four leaf clovers and shades of green o’plenty – without going overboard. (After 5pm is up in the air!)

Not partaking in the festivities? Here’s a kickstart to adding a fresh hue to your wardrobe this spring! Because there is ALWAYS a silver lining to every cloud errr…pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. 😉

Shopcade loves St Patrick’s Day!
Here’s our tips to celebrate it in style in the States.

New York

2012 sees the city’s 251st St Patrick’s Day parade which marches right up Fifth Avenue. More than 2 million people are expected to show up for this historical event, which was started by Irish conscripts from the British army in 1762.

  • When: Mar 17 11am–5pm.
  • Price: Free!
Washington DC

This two-and-a-half hour event – known as the Nation’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade – includes floats, marching bands, and local military, police, and fire departments. There will also be parties with Irish dancers and singers.

Boston

More than 500,000 visitors go to Boston to celebrate St Patrick’s Day – especially because Boston held the first Paddy’s Day celebration in 1737. Also, if beer’s your thing, Boston has more Irish pubs than any other place in the States.

  • When: Mar 18
  • Price: Free!
San Francisco

The 161st St. Patrick’s Day Parade in San Francisco is part of a whole day of fun with performance, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, children’s rides and  lots of booths representing the Irish community.

  • Where: Starts at corner of Second and Market
  • When: Mar 17, 11.30am.
  • Price: Free!
What to wear?

Anything green! Originally the color associated with St Patrick was blue, but as St Patrick is associated with the shamrock green has become the modern-day color of the saint.

What to drink?

Anything Irish! If you want to keep it authentic make yours a Guinness.

What to buy for a party?

We have a great selection of St Patrick’s Day products on Shopcade. Which is your favourite?
