Summer highs

All Photography by Daniel Towle

Summer has well and truly peaked, the evenings may have more of a chill to them but were not pulling out the coat and boots just yet- we’ve still got Reading and Leeds Festival, open air cinema screenings and BBQ’s galore! Trends have been generous with a mix of loud prints, contrasting textures and colour clashes. We got together with our sun loving #fbloggers to show off their summer highlights….

The bolder and the brighter the better. Florals have taken on a variety of new patterns and forms, floral crowns have been a huge one over festival season as well as prints, reefs, on shades, on bags- pretty much wherever we can possibly fit them!

AXPARISkimonoKimonos landed with a heavy weight this season! Not only did we have the biggest selection of colours, shapes and styles, sales this year broke all time records! Fashionistas cant get enough of the throw-it-on instant glamour piece that has totally carried us through summer!

Our Shopcade Fashion Correspondents Analise & Sophie hit Global Gathering and here’s how it went down! Find out more from Sophie on her time there, who she was raving with and of course, what she was wearing…

“I was lucky enough to gain press access to ‘Global Gathering’ festival and attend on behalf of Shopcade. And boy, what a cracking festival it was! I didn’t get the tickets till two days before so it was a manic rush to raid my wardrobe and find the perfect festival looks before the big day – a fashionista’s gotta plan her outfit eh?!

I opted for the perfect festival footwear – a pair of Caterpillar boots in original brown suede; comfy yet fashionable footwear. You need comfy shoes when you’re at a weekend festival as you’re on your feet non-stop all day and you also gotta think about the weather and Cat boots are perfect if there’s mud.

On my top half I wore ASOS’s mesh tee with a black bra and high-waist pants underneath. I absolutely love the 90s mesh trend that’s taken over this SS14, it adds ‘edge’ to your style, something I try and work into all my looks. If you know me well, you’ll know I love over-accessorizing, so I worked a body chain into my outfit to finish off my look. Body chains have crept in as a late summer fashion trend but I just love them as they go with absolutely everything. That was only day one’s outfit! On day two I kept it simple and put on my fave oversized Adidas print tee – I wanted to go with more of a sporty vibe this time; another dominant trend.

Festival Date with Kayla Hadlington

With festival season peaking and highlights still looming from Glastonbury, we caught up with fashion blogger and master of festival cool; Kayla Hadlington to get her breakdown for this summer.

Which festivals are you hitting up this year?

“Download this year was amazing, such a cool atmosphere. You either love them or hate them but Linkin Park was my highlight, they played their first album Hybrid Theory, which they don’t normally do, so that was perfect. I’m also off to V-festival with fellow blogger Amy Valentine and Justin Timberlake, Kaiser Chiefs  and The Killers headlining which I’m looking forward to”.

Dressing for festivals… Advice please!

“I just wear whatever’s easy; normally good boots and shorts. If you just have a band t-shirt, just cut off the sleeves, put on a belt and it’s as good as good as a dress. I also love the fact you’re tights can be ripped to bits and these are one of the only places you can get away with it!”

What makes a good festival?

“If the toilets are nice then I’m happy! I think the most important thing is the company you have and the atmosphere of the place. At Download, there was a guy running around in a mankini and I guess that’s what you would call ‘making friends’ and the guys were so cool and protective making sure I didn’t get moshed to death!”

Fave music right now?

“My favourite bands at the moment are a bit of a metal mix, Korn, Linkin Park, Disturbed, and Bullet for my Valentine”.

What are your festival essentials

“I Can’t survive a festival without dry shampoo, baby wipes, suncream spay- not the oily kind, the one that you can spray on your head!”

And finally…Quick fire Q&A!

Mascara or lipstick? “Mascara”

Sunglasses or hat?Sunglasses

Kimono or mac? “Kimono”

Beer or cider? “Cider”

How To Dress Like Vanessa Hudgens

While Vanessa Hudgens will always be famous for being one of the leading stars of the High School Musical franchise, she has done enough since that time – embarrassing online episodes aside – to be recognised as one of the hottest young stars around.

Not only does her career continue to grow but she hasn’t fallen into the typecast “princess” role that many thought she might have done after HSM. The transition from child star to adult leading lady is always easier when you don’t have to reinvent yourself!

One area where Vanessa certainly doesn’t need any help with reinventing is her style. Learning how to dress like Vanessa Hudgens is kind of like an art form- seriously, she’s either super over accessorized or very laid back with her dress sense!

Here’s how you can get the look for yourself…

Casual Clash

Vanessa is the master of taking a casual look and making it look super cool with accessories aplenty. This quality shouldn’t be understated; it means you can wear whatever you want and get away with it, on any occasion, because you’re always dressing outfits up rather than dressing yourself down.

How to Dress Boho

We all know that trends come and go in the fashion world, but a select few hang around. This makes it easy for the fashionistas among us to always look on trend and feel amazing. One of the most exciting and followed such trends is the Boho trend.

Easy to follow and a look that all girls can work, knowing how to dress boho will make sure you stay in the know, as the festival season approaches.

Here’s the lowdown on boho dressing like a pro, so you can channel the celeb boho babes (Sienna Miller and Kate Moss for example) in style…

Boho Staples

The biggest boho staple around is the maxi dress. You don’t just want any maxi dress, however, but something with ethnic inspired patterns. Avoid tribal or anything too psychedelic, as they won’t help you to carry the boho vibe very well at all. You can then grab a light coloured thin cardigan – or for full boho find a lace waistcoat – and you’ve already created a simple and effective style that ticks all the trend boxes when it comes to boho.

If you can’t get an ethnic inspired maxi dress, then a long skirt will do the trick and give you licence to play around with what you’re going to wear up top.

When you’re playing with patterns in this way, you need to make sure that you don’t go too far with accessories; a simple bangle and a necklace should do, as there’s already a lot going on with your look.

Fest Dressed: Cowboy, Americana, and Navajo – Three Trends to Try at SXSW

on

It’s time to dust off our flower crowns, girls. (Wait, are those still a thing?) It’s festival season!!! Yes, you’ve heard right. Our favorite time of year is near. The time when winter becomes a distant memory and the spring and summer seasons are ushered with live music – and a lot of it.

SXSW, based in Austin, TX, kicks it off each year. The inaugural fest is different than the rest in that it’s spread throughout the entire town of Austin. There are no camp grounds or gates here, the ENTIRE town becomes a music fest. Aside from being encapsulated in tunes, you’ll also be inundated with some of the best tacos EV-ER. Just those two things alone should sell you.

The big question is, what do you wear to fit in at a fest located in the south? To put it simply, go west Well, west-ern. We recommend denim and navajo print with a splash of classic Americana. And, don’t forget the cowboy boots.

Here are the three festival fashion trends you’re going to want to try when heading to SXSW.

Yeeeehaww!

Cowboy

Channel your inner John Wayne (or Madonna circa her “Music” album phase) at the Austin-based fest. The idea is to pepper in a little of the trend – seen all over the NYFW runways – into your everyday wardrobe. Otherwise, you risk getting mistaken for a rodeo queen instead of a street style star. Don’t know about you but we prefer the latter. Achieve this with a fringe statement piece and a fun pair of western-ispired boots – those are the key
