It’s called ‘Mad Monday’ for a reason on the LFW schedule and yesterday it more than lived up to its name! With power house Burberry the highlight on the show schedule, shows from GILES, Christopher Kane and Erdem still proved a huge hit with a slew of celebs in attendance.

Issa, Peter Pilotto and Michael Van Der Ham also get an honorable mention too for pulling out all the stops, but as the spotlight prepares to shift to Milan on Wednesday, here’s our London Fashion Week Day 4 highlights…

Burberry: AW14 was all about the blanket cape (now flooding the high street) so all eyes were on Burberry to see what would be the must- have for next season following this epic success. The answer? the humble denim jacket. Past reincarnations from Christopher Bailey have included the aviator, the trench and the biker jacket, so it was only a matter of time before the signature denim jacket got a makeover. Bailey’s version came in a deep indigo colour, complete with sheepskin trimmings edged on the collar and hem in various different cuts, to flatter and suit all figures. A triumph once more, this will be EVERYWHERE come Spring 2015.

Who made the FROW? Jamie Campbell- Bower, Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne & Paloma Faith (Walking- Suki Waterhouse and Jourdan Dunn)

Erdem: The collections are always so dreamy and fanciful, you expect to be taken into another world every season and once again he did not disappoint. Gothic sheer florals, pastels in lemon and lime and exotic prints, which left you with the feeling of being in the catwalk jungle; everything was impossibly beautiful and flawless; a symbol of runway life itself.

Who made the FROW? Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof and Daisy Lowe

GILES: The backstage passes featured pictures of The Jungle Book, the invites came in the form of a foam claw and the music that played during the show? exotic birds! Welcome to the wild with GILES and his disco jungle; a fabulously loud and OTT celebration for Spring.

Who made the FROW? Daisy Lowe and Jaime Winstone

What’s on your shopping list this season?

I’m loving all the knitwear that has graced the catwalk this season… From boxy crop knits to the oversized maxi cardigan and roll neck shapes. They’re great pieces to have in your wardrobe, as they’re great for layering with everything!

Relaxed tailoring was also a big trend coming through on the catwalk, so I’ll be buying into tailored jackets and oversized wide leg trousers. Christopher Kane really captured relaxed tailoring perfectly with the three piece dressing!!

What do you think is the thing that makes people really stand out on the Looks app?

For me, I think it’s originality, confidence and personality that makes people stand out on the looks app!

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I really loved the winter pastels this season with its soft palette of greys, blues and blushes! Textures and oversized shapes with lots of layering makes it such a great fashion forward trend and it has definitely been reinvented for winter! I love what Gucci did on the runway with its 60s inspired feel to the collection! I loved all the oversized mohair furs in the soft pastel palette!

Tell us about your part on the Shopcade Style Council?

I’ll be judging the participants entries and deciding who my favourite style battler is, as well as jumping on the decks to get everyone in the disco mood at the #StyleBattle party!

What, in your opinion, makes people’s style stand out against anyone else?

Individuality. London is just brimming with so many different styles and it’s amazing that we have such freedom to wear what we want without people judging! I mean I have seen some sights, but it always makes me smile!

Boohoo’s StyleFix Editor Talks Top Trends For Summer

on

We have nothing but mega love for Boohoo here at Shopcade HQ, so we were pretty chuffed to land a quick Q&A with the lovely Emma, Boohoo’s Stylefix Editor (yes that is her in our lovely circle of fame above!) to talk all about the upcoming trends for the season ahead. Check out her must have festival buys below…

Hey Emma! So spill, what do you think are the top trends for SS14, and which ones are your faves?

The catwalk saw a heavy sports influence in embellished sweats and athletic looking socks with sandals. Each season we see sport done in a different way and this spring it’s better than ever. Metallics are a huge trend at the moment, because nothing looks as mesmerising as a glittering metallic piece on a hot summer’s day, from skirts and dresses to clutch bags, this is one for all you magpies out there.

Eastern inspired and flowing with tassels, the Dolce and Gabbana show was something to behold too. Come summer everything gets a little more relaxed and bohemian and this collection transports you to faraway shores. A key piece is the tasselled bag, invest now and team with sheer layers to get the look. Pastels are an obvious spring trend, but I personally can’t get enough. Christopher Kane sent pastel drenched models in midi skirts and sweatshirts down his runway and it was one of my favourite SS14 shows.

Which celeb is nailing it right now style wise?

One celeb that never fails to inspire me is Solange Knowles,  she always gets it right. We could all steal a little of her style! The bright colours, the bold lipsticks, the clashing prints; she’s not afraid to mix it up and stand out. And with summer just around the corner, she’s the perfect celeb to look to.

If we were going to pick one essential to have in our wardrobe, what should it be?

For me, it’s all about a simple black midi dress. I have a couple, from cami and high neck styles to midi t-shirt dresses. Such a simple piece can be styled so many different ways by mixing it with different jackets, accessories and shoes. Buy one and you’ll wonder what you ever did without it!

Festival season has just kicked off- what are some tips to be best dressed at the fest?

Festivals are all about having fun, and it all starts with fashion! So don’t be afraid to stand out, they’re the perfect place to experiment with bright colours, loud accessories and quirky sunglasses. If you’re feeling bold test out henna tattoos and body embellishments like Kendall Jenner did at this year’s Coachella festival – we totally loved her look!

And never leave without packing layers, wellies and something waterproof, it is NOT about getting caught out by the weather!

LFW Day 5: Catwalk Round Up

on

day5roundup

Well that’s it for another season, LFW is officially over, but before the spotlight shifts to Milan, let’s take a sneaky peek at the highlights from the fifth and final day.

After the power players (Burberry, Christopher Kane) stomped all over ‘Mad Monday’, this was most definitely ‘Terrific Tuesday’ (see what I did there?!).

Fashion East, Meadham Kirchhoff, Simone Rocha and Anya Hindmarch to name just a few that closed LFW for another season to much aclaim.

Here’s my view on the top shows of the day…

Giles: Cara has been pretty selective this fashion week, walking in only a handful of shows, which included this one. Surprisingly though, she wasn’t the name on everyone’s lips today; rumoured Harry Styles’ squeeze, Kendall Jenner was the one who took centre stage. Looking gorgeous in a monochrome asymmetric dress, complete with poker straight punk locks and topped off with electric blue eye make-up, she looked every inch the celeb model. Other highlights included the cute buckled shoes and loafers each model sported, giving the runway a low key, approachable feel. Or maybe Giles just saw the Sibling models going flying earlier this week and decided to play it safe in flats?!

LFW Day 4: Catwalk Round Up

on

day-4-blogbanner

And that’s a wrap… three days of non-stop partying have come to an end, as we close the doors on the Shopcade LFW party bus for the season. *Sob*

It’s been absolutely mega and we have had the best time meeting you all; welcoming you on board, chilling with you on the upper deck and snapping numerous pics of your looks outside the bus. Basically we’ve had a blast and we hope you have too!

Highlights from today included Gabby Young taking up the DJ decks first thing, followed by The Glitter Beats spinning the decks in the afternoon, right up until the end of the day.

Designer Akira Amani joined us for a quick Q&A to chat about her new line and the fab Jade Ellis rocked up in a bodycon Alice Palmer Knit to give us the lowdown on her style and new album.

If that wasn’t enough the gorgeous Fran from MIC popped back in for a catch up, turning interviewer for the day and chatting to designer Sarah Angold about her new collection and LFW fun and frolics so far.

London Collections: Men AW14 Trend Preview

on

blog-AW14-Men-Preview

Ahead of fashion month kicking off in Feb, the capital started proceedings nicely this week by presenting the London Collections: Men (the equivalent of men’s fashion week if the lingo is throwing you!)

Regular FROW attendees included David Gandy (swoon) Nick Grimshaw (he’s a quirky fellow isn’t he?!) and Henry Holland (who was clearly having a quiff off with BFF Nick at every opportunity this week!)

But what of the big trends that will be having a major impact on your boyf’s wardrobe come autumn this year? Well, we’ve done all the hard work for you (we’re nice like that) and rounded up the top 5 looks to work this AW14.

With some savvy shopping, some trends can even be snapped up now in the sales if you’re clever about it, so suss out our guide and get planning now. Well, it never hurts to be prepared does it?!

1. Check it Out: Oh how we love a guy in a checked suit, which is pretty handy because this looks set to be the biggest style to work this AW14 if the designers have anything to say about it. Tight checks over loose reigned supreme over at Hackett, Casely-Hayford and Richard James, whose dapper looking suits will be featured on many a fashion conscious man over the next season we predict.

2. PVC: OK now before you get freaked out, we’re talking waterproof over full on S&M PVC here. Not convinced? Check out Topman Design’s offering- slick PVC capes teamed with sharp tailoring and statement knits gave the collection a real moody gothic feel. A triumph of day one and rightly so, when the finale came, so did the rain!

3. Funnel Necks: Christopher Kane, Topman and JW Anderson made this look very wearable for AW, whereas some others may have tipped the scales slightly (understatement) in favour of creativity over wearability. Who could forget Bobby Abley’s brain/mouse inspired pastel pink sweats that paraded out on day one of LC:M? Exactly! Stick to Topman’s offering in rustic orange or cream and you’ll be on the right side of insanity… promise.

4. Oriental Prints: There was a strong recurring theme through most of the collections presented this week and that was print. Our pick, however is oriental after Richard Nicoll gave us sumptuous silk printed bombers in an oriental print to die for. Craig Green also impressed with his pyjama print offering. A slow burner, but one we think should be invested in.

5. Pop Colour: What better way to liven up the muted colour palette of greys, browns and blacks, than with a splash of pop colour? This look proved popular over at Burberry, James Long and the king of creativity, Christopher Kane whose cobalt blue bobble sweat is on many an editor’s lust list already.

Sneak Peek: SS14 Fashion Trends

Psst. Want to know a secret? We know what everyone is going to be wearing next season and what’s more, we’re going to let you in on it. Welcome to the Shopcade Style Insiders guide to SS14…

blog.image-ss14.1-101213-ukCool As Candy: Pastels made a surprise appearance this autumn (sold out M&S pink coat anyone?!) so if you have invested this season, nicely done, as this will carry you into spring in style! The hot new colours to invest in are cool mint, baby blue and mellow yellow. Burberry Prorsum owned this look on the runway- alongside their hot monochrome and spots came pastel perfection teamed with delicate lace. LOVE.

blog.image-ss14.3-101213-ukCheck On It: Miranda Priestly once said ‘Florals in spring… ground breaking’ so maybe the designers took note and decided to give us a new print to rock for SS14. Checks edged ahead in the style stakes in all four cities, banishing florals into second place. House of Holland’s checkerboard of hot pink, white and blue was fun, yet wearable (think small checked trousers, full skirts and checked shirts) whilst Balmain and Sister By Sibling also deserve a mention for their dropped hem and dolly mixture shift dresses respectively.

blog.image-ss14.2-101213-ukDenim Delight: Banish all thoughts of ill-fitting jeans and dodgy patchwork, because denim just went luxe. Bleached, dark, light, you name it the designers showed it! Ashish gave us frayed, relaxed and slouchy denim on his runway, whilst Holly Fulton’s cut out denim t-shirt is going straight on our lust list. Fitted light denim from Christopher Kane’s resort collection was a winner, whilst Chloe’s denim smock dress will look fab teamed with chunky sandals and oversized sunglasses come summer.

These are our top picks, but what are yours? Share with us your 2014 trend predictions below!

The Goss Special: British Fashion Awards Style

Rita Ora | Instagram

Where would you find Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof and Rita Ora together at the same time? We’ll tell you where… at the style event of the season of course, the British Fashion Awards!

As anticipated Kate Moss was the woman of the hour, smooching Mr Harry Styles (nothing untoward, just a quick peck!) and posing up a storm with the gorgeous Rita Ora on the red carpet.

Mossy rocked a Grecian style leather mini dress, sky high heels and a white fur coat to wow the fashion crowd, whilst Rita (recently cast as Christian Grey’s sister in Fifty Shades!) went all Marilyn Monroe on us with quaffed peroxide hair and a corseted Vivienne Westwood number to wow the paps.
