Christmas Blogger Special: Wendy Gilmour talks top trends for winter with Shopcade

Wendy Gilmour | ThankFiFi

Wendy Gilmour, the fashion blogger behind ThankFiFi talks top trends for winter, her fave celeb style and why she’s glad plaid is back in fashion this season…

Happy Holidays! Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year?
I just got a pink coat – a huge cliché obviously, but I’m in love!

OK, let’s talk about presents. What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?
Without a doubt Mr K, my puppy, was the best present EVER. Think I’d rather forget about the garlic grater my mother-in-law gave me a few years ago – it was a beautifully hand-painted grater dish… but I’m allergic to garlic.

What would be your dream holiday destination? Would you prefer Santa’s village or someplace warm and sunny?
Skiing in the snow every time! I got married in Chamonix, France, four winters ago, skiing with all my friends and family – plenty of fresh air, snow, sun, mulled wine, cheese and great memories.

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree. Who would you choose to design it and why?
Myself, obviously!

What type of Christmas tree would you be?
A real pine tree. Definitely because of the smell and I’m a sucker for the classics: plenty of gold and red, but I’d throw in a bit of crazy fun, maybe some clashing hot pink? I’d stick to baubles though and plenty of lights; no tinsel, thank you!

Christmas Bloggers Special: Patrick Pankalla shares his fashion secrets with Shopcade…

In the first of our Christmas blogger specials, we chat to Danish fashion blogger Patrick Pankalla about Christmas in Scandinavia, the best shopping spots in Copenhagen, and his aversion to… moon boots!

So, it’s nearly Christmas! What’s on your Shopcade wish list?

I’ve ran out of perfume, so that’s on my wish list. Otherwise you’ll find clothes, accessories, shoes, and a new Canon camera that I want so badly.

What has been the best present you have received? And the one you would rather forget about?

The best present must have been a trip to the United States that my father arranged for me. One of the worst was a karaoke machine. I can’t sing – everybody knows that!

What would be your dream holiday destination? Would you prefer Santa’s village or some place warm and sunny?

I’d love to travel to a warm and sunny destination. It’s so damn cold here in Denmark; however, it’s part of Christmas I think. I would find it strange to celebrate Christmas somewhere sunny. That’s just not how we do it in Scandinavia.

Do you have an ‘it’ fashion item that you are planning to wear for this year’s holidays?

Not really, but I’m always wearing something red!

What are your favourite tunes for the festive season?

I have a mix tape with the best and all the classic Christmas songs. I always listen to it during the season.

What is the one thing that you can’t have enough of during Christmas? Also, what is the one thing that you absolutely can’t stand anymore?!

I can’t get enough of confections and the Christmas dinner – so delicious. I can’t stand mulled wine.

Dolce & Gabbana were the designers behind the famous Claridge’s Christmas tree. Who would you choose to design it and why?

I would love to see Maison Martin Margiela design it. I can imagine that the tree would be the strangest seen ever, but beautiful in its own way.

And what about you, what kind of Christmas tree would you be?

I love to break traditions, so I’d probably be a Christmas tree that no one has ever seen before. A non-traditional, but amazing Christmas tree!

Let’s talk about your blog now… How did you get started?

I’m a Danish fashion blogger – the biggest in Denmark in my age group. Besides that, I’m working as a freelance photographer. I always put quality in the first row, especially when it comes to my blog and its design and photo material. I try to inspire my readers in my own way, and my blog is mostly about fashion and photography, with a touch of travel and my everyday life. It all started because I wanted to inspire and share stuff with people other than my friends and family. Now I’m loving it and can’t see an everyday life without it.

You also run your own e-shop. What kind of items can we find there?

I basically sell items from my wardrobe, stuff that I can’t fit in anymore. It gets updated with new items once in a while.

Traveling seems to be an important part of your blogging life. What’s the best place you have visited so far?

I love traveling and have been doing it a lot. My all-time favourite city must be New York. I’ve been there twice and I fell in love with the city both times. I wanna live there some day – it’s a big dream of mine.

What are your favourite shopping spots in Copenhagen?

You’ll find everything on the main street called “Strøget.” You can compare it with Oxford Street in London – it’s just smaller. If you take a walk down the side streets, you’ll find the best and cosiest shops and cafes. It’s there where you’ll find the hidden treasures when it comes to shopping.

Where are we most likely to find you on a Friday night?

It’s very different from Friday to Friday. As much as I like going out drinking and clubbing, I enjoy staying home and relaxing with a cup of coffee and a great series on TV.

What’s the funniest/weirdest email or comment you have received from a fan?

A few days ago I received the following comment to an outfit post: “What size do you use in shoes? I think your feet look way too big in your shoes and it’s a no-go.” Dude, sorry that my feet are big. It’s not like I can do anything about it!’s talk about personal style now. What’s the one thing that you wouldn’t want to be seen wearing?

A kilt. That’s just odd!

What kind of combinations make you cringe when you see them?

It makes me cringe when I see people wearing denim from head to toe. I just don’t get it!

Guys and shopping seem to be a little contradictory. What about you? Do you enjoy going to the stores?

I love going shopping. I don’t understand why it’s a taboo in some circles of friends. There’s nothing better than new clothes. Get yourself together guys.

If you could press a button and control everyone’s taste, what would you make people wear?

I won’t tell  what I would make them wear, but what they shouldn’t wear. Moon boots and checkered Vans is a huge no-go.

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

That’s a tough question. I actually don’t know. If high street stores like H&M, Zara, COS and Cheap Monday just made clothes that were more fashionable and still with budget-friendly prices, then people would look more stylish.

Boys’ Festive Fashion: King of Cool vs. Geek Chic

#4 Boys’ Festive Fashion: King of Cool vs. Geek Chic

And the winner is… King of Cool!

The Voting is now CLOSED. Thank you to everyone who followed the list and congratulations to the winner of the Topman giftcard…

Stay tuned for our next Christmas.Sorted. theme coming VERY soon…

Still unsure whether you are the King of Cool or all about rocking the Geek Chic look? Well, let us give you a helping hand with our quirky and original musings (!) on the fourth round of lists to go under the spotlight…

King of Cool: There’s only one way you can claim to be the king of cool this Christmas and that’s by championing the skinny jean (yep still on trend) a tight jumper (novelty is acceptable…it is the festive season after all) and penny loafers (just a bit of a point will do fine) and you’ll be right on the money.

Geek Chic: A great man once said “Bowties are cool” and who are we to argue?! Thick rimmed glasses, checked shirts, braces and bowties are the height of fashion and officially the ONLY way to dress in style this Christmas.

Not sure what our campaign is about?

We have officially kicked off the festive season in style with our Christmas. Sorted. Campaign- your one stop shop for gift inspiration this Christmas. Check it out here!

The Goss: Isabel Marant for H&M… The Countdown Begins!

Image from H&M / Photographer: Karim Sadli / Model: Iselin Steiro

Isabel Marant for H&M: We have literally waited all our fashion lives for this moment. Isabel Marant for H&M launches in the UK this week, yes you heard us, THIS WEEK! In possibly the most highly anticipated high street/designer collaboration ever, the fashion pack have been counting down the days since it was announced earlier this year. Shopcade will be decamping from our HQ home in Notting Hill and queuing at dawn to cover the fashion event of the year, so stay tuned for our live updates straight from the heart of the action!

Adele turns down L’Oreal deal: So apparently the lovely Adele was offered a deal with L’Oreal which would have seen her replace the equally lovely Cheryl Cole but- and here’s the kicker- she turned it down! The move has left the beauty giant reportedly ‘gobsmacked’ at her turning down such a huge amount (we’re talking £12m here!) according to People magazine, who quoted the source. We’re pretty gutted it didn’t work out, Adele is a stunner!

Tamera Foster looks hot in sequinned jumpsuit: Told you Tamera was the one to watch in the fashion stakes! Gal looked gorgeous in a sequinned French Connection jumpsuit for Saturday’s live show. Available from ASOS for £180 it’s an investment piece make no mistake, but come on, when you can’t treat yourself at crimbo, when can you , eh?!

And finally…

All Worship… ‘The Bear and the Hare’: They’ve only gone and done it again those clever folks at John Lewis. Having run out of cute kids and snowmen, they’ve turned to animation for this year’s Christmas offering and come up with the soon-to-be-classic bear and hare tale. You know, the one where they bear and hare are best buds in the forest and because the bear hibernates each year he misses Christmas (we know, heart breaking right?!). So clever hare buys him an alarm clock (John Lewis of course) so he can wake up and enjoy the festive season. (Hurray!) All this action set to the backing vocals of Lily Allen and her comeback cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know. You may sense sarcasm, but we totes weeped… honest.

#GiftThis and Not That! We’re Making This Holiday Season Easy On You

gift this

The holidays are a strugggg-le. It all comes down to choices. Does your bff want a gold or silver nameplate necklace? Should you get your office Secret Santa a funny gift or go simple. Decisions, decisions!

If you’re trying to figure it out, Shopcade is here to help you #GiftThis (not that) for every person you need to buy for this season. Starting November 8th, Shopcade will feature two lists that from our fave festive fashionistas that are going head-to-head. These lists will guide you to gift-giving greatness this holiday while giving you some serious inspiration on what to ask for.  I mean, isn’t that what this is all about?!

Go to your trending feed and pick the ONE list you love the most. Click follow. Your follow automatically enters you in to the pool of entries for a chance to win a $75 gift card. Winner is picked at the end of the voting period at random from all entries. If you want to get your hands on these goodies, keep your peepers peeled for the new theme reveals every Friday and Tuesday until Christmas.

Check out what’s to come on our upcoming festive themes below…

Friday, November 8th

#1 Snow Bunny vs. Beach Babe – Going away this holiday season? These are the lists to look at. Whether you’re a cool climate kind of girl snowboarding in Colorado or a warm-weather chick soaking up the sun in Cabo, your vacay wardrobe should be fab. What do we think – sand or snow?

Tuesday, November 12th.

#2 Naughty Nighties vs. Lovely Loungewear – Cozy up this holiday season by the fireplace in your fave bedtime look. The question is…are you a good girl or a bad girl? Take your pick between the season’s lacy and sheer underthings or comfy, cotton pjs.

Friday, November 15th.

#3 Dinner Party vs After Party – Holidays equal party season. The first thing that comes to mind when we hear the word party is “what do we wear?” If it’s an office event, you’ll have to stick to classic holiday garb. We’re thinking reds, plaids, and brocade. If it’s at a friends apartment you’ll want a stand-out sparkly number. Sequins and LBD’s EVERY-WHERE! Which party are you most excited to dress for?

Get Knitted with National Wool Week!

The chill factor has shot up an alarming amount this week, so really there is no better time to celebrate Wool Week… an excuse if ever there was one to get all snug with your winter woollies.

We’re embracing the national event, which kicked off earlier this week as it celebrates all things woolly in a good cause.

Cosy knitwear, cute beanies, gloves and scarves, and that’s before you factor in some seriously desirable things for the home (woolly blankets on a chilly eve? Yes pls!) What’s not to love?!

The high street have totally got in on the act and embraced this fab campaign as well with retailers holding live knitting sessions (seriously, it’s cool. Daisy Lowe launched it. Nuff said) and producing some AMAZING woollen wonders.

We’re all about statement sweaters at the moment. From Bats, cats and all things spooky for Halloween to some Christmas novelty cuties making their way onto the rails. There has never been a better time to shop that one of a kind statement, so get in there quick before they all sell out.

If jumpers aren’t doing it for you, think cute tartan woollen kilts in a variety of colours or snap up a snood (or scarf, you know your choice) to fight off the winter chill.

Personally we’re all about finding the perfect winter coat this season, as there has never been so much variety. Topshop have the pop colour woollen wonders, Zara have mastered military, ASOS have the dreamy pink number that everyone is after and New Look is the queen of the duffle coat.

Whatever your preference, we’ve got you covered.  Check out our fab curator, Laura Seed’s Nice Knits list to celebrate Wool Week and keep cosy in style.
