Idle Lane

Dancer, model and blogger Danielle Peazer of IdleLane.com is our September Style Blogger Council member ready to get judging your style in the fashionista style stakes this month! Find out about what trends she’ll be rocking this season, which may pop-megastar is following her on Twitter and what she thinks makes people stand out from the crowd, to see if you can catch her eye on the Shopcade app!

What’s on your shopping list this season?

Moving into A/W I’m on the look out for cosy knitwear, it’s so vital when the weather gets colder!

What do you think is the thing that makes people’s style really stand out?

I think people’s style stands out when they’re truly comfortable in what they’re wearing and are happy in their outfit. It’s an added confidence that comes naturally.

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I’ve loved the amount of lace overlays that have been on trend. I’ve got a few pieces and they always catch my eye when I’m out shopping.

Who are your fave designers?

I love Reformation and Sandro but for high end designers as well as Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Burberry for their leather jackets!

Best high street brands?

I’m a massive fan of Zara and Topshop. I also love Monki and love to shop online at Missguided and Asos.

Whose style do you admire?

I love Ashley Madekwe’s style and Naya Riviera’s sharp look that she always has. I love Vanessa Hudgens and wish I could pull off the boho look as well as she does!

Have you ever had a fashion faux pas?

I’ve had a few yeah! I used to own this faux fur leopard print coat that didn’t suit me at all but I tried to make it work – I looked terrible!

What’s your favourite piece in your wardrobe atm?

I recently bought a linen mac from Zara. It’s calf length and I loved it so much in beige that I bought the exact same one in black!

What item could you not live without? Fashion/Beauty item…

I couldn’t live without my Mac lip conditioner – it’s better than Vaseline but not as sticky as lip gloss. And it comes in a few different shades too.

London Fashion Week Final Day Highights

We’re gutted that London Fashion Week is over for another season; SS15 was a pretty strong showing with the likes of Burberry, House of Holland and Mary Katrantzou all presenting stunning collections.

As the fash pack head to Milan for another week of spectacular shows, here’s our take on the final day of the catwalk offering here in London.

Anya Hindmarch: Last season she gave us bags emblazoned with Tony the Tiger and DAZ washing powder logos, which became cult classics for AW14, so what would be in store for us this season? Well another fun ride in effect! Quite literally as it turned out; models sat in giant neon teacups pushed along by skeletons, whilst others strutted down the runway complete with a trail of helium balloons. The overwhelming message was FUN, with a nice nod of back to school as the collection came complete with customisable stickers. Our fave? The ‘Bags Have Feelings Too’ sticker was super cute!

Who made the FROW?  Susie Bubble, Poppy Delevingne and er,  Richard E Grant!

Ashish: Sequins, sequins and er, more sequins! We’ve come to expect this signature from Ashish and once again he did not disappoint for SS15. Rainbow hues were used throughout, whether that was on ripped baggy jeans, on a cute checkerboard mini dress or a good old fashion snakeskin co-ord. Fabulous fun as usual, with the disco vibe being firmly set by Ashish for Spring.

Who made the FROW? Ella Eyre and Rapper Eve.

H by Hakaan Yildirim: Founded in 2011, with a name change and new aesthetic to boast this season, H by Hakaan Yildirim gave us a collection focusing on the relationship with humans and nature. Giant bee motifs adorned jumpers, stunning hexagonal pleated pieces and sheer panelled dresses stormed the runway; it was a departure from previous collections with this season promoting a ‘less is more’ approach.

Who made the FROW? Olivia Cox and Tanya Burr

Very ‘Bring the Colour’ for SS14

on

veryblog

We have a lot of love for Very right now. Their awesome ‘Bring the Colour’ campaign has us dreaming of Summer, even though we have only just hit Spring! Hayley Phipps, Visual Merchandiser for Very gave us the inside scoop on the new collection, her styling secrets and why Victoria Beckham’s haircuts shouldn’t always be copied!

bubbleimageWhat are the key trends we should all be shopping this season?

For Spring/ Summer 14, Very is particularly loving colour (the brighter the better), all things tribal, pastels, sporty inspired pieces, blossoming florals, monochrome is still key too, the list could go on! We have loads of trends for our customers to shop this season.

Tell us all about the ‘Bring the Colour’ collection. It’s super cool for spring!

Well I think the fashion speaks for itself, all our collections are really strong this season. ‘Bring the Colour’ is as much about our attitude to fashion and dressing as it is about the trend. The message is about being brave with colour, wearing these bright hues wherever you’re going, even to the office. I think this winter seemed really long and dull so launching the collection and campaign at this time was about saying a firm goodbye to winter and a big hello to spring, and what better way to signify that change than with colour? We wanted to brighten everyone’s mood with our fabulous fashion. That is where the concept for the campaign came from, with the world appearing dull and grey and the fashion injecting the colour in to it.

Who is the collection aimed at?

The great thing about colour and this campaign is that it includes everyone. Anyone can wear colour no matter what your age, size or style, and as an online department store we have something to suit everyone too!!

How would you style it?

If you’re brave and you want to make a statement this spring, wear one colour in different tones, head to toe. In past seasons we have seen colour blocking as a key look but this season try to stick to one colour for a more modern take on the trend.
However if you’re not so confident with colour, start with just injecting pops of colour with shoes and accessories.

LFW Day 5: Catwalk Round Up

on

day5roundup

Well that’s it for another season, LFW is officially over, but before the spotlight shifts to Milan, let’s take a sneaky peek at the highlights from the fifth and final day.

After the power players (Burberry, Christopher Kane) stomped all over ‘Mad Monday’, this was most definitely ‘Terrific Tuesday’ (see what I did there?!).

Fashion East, Meadham Kirchhoff, Simone Rocha and Anya Hindmarch to name just a few that closed LFW for another season to much aclaim.

Here’s my view on the top shows of the day…

Giles: Cara has been pretty selective this fashion week, walking in only a handful of shows, which included this one. Surprisingly though, she wasn’t the name on everyone’s lips today; rumoured Harry Styles’ squeeze, Kendall Jenner was the one who took centre stage. Looking gorgeous in a monochrome asymmetric dress, complete with poker straight punk locks and topped off with electric blue eye make-up, she looked every inch the celeb model. Other highlights included the cute buckled shoes and loafers each model sported, giving the runway a low key, approachable feel. Or maybe Giles just saw the Sibling models going flying earlier this week and decided to play it safe in flats?!

How To Rock The Socks & Sandals Combo

on

Socks and Sandals= Uber Cool. Natch. Photo Credit: Pinterest

Socks and sandals… major fashion faux par or pure genius? We were still pretty on the fence until a few years ago, Burberry totes made them cool.

Chunky woollen socks in all sorts of pastel shades teamed with wooden sandals made this definitely, erm, shall we say “acquired look” go mainstream and ever since we have been having fun experimenting!

So, here’s the thing. With fashion week (London of course, try to keep up!) coming up we thought we’d put together an expert guide on how to rock socks and sandals this season and look stylish. You ready?

Rule 1: There are no rules. We’re just kidding, OF COURSE there are rules. This is a tricky trend to pull off, so now we have your undivided attention, look down to rules 2-5 and prepare to get serious. *Puts on straight face*

London Collections: Men AW14 Trend Preview

on

blog-AW14-Men-Preview

Photo Credit: Essential Homme Mag | Kent & Curwen AW14

Ahead of fashion month kicking off in Feb, the capital started proceedings nicely this week by presenting the London Collections: Men (the equivalent of men’s fashion week if the lingo is throwing you!)

Regular FROW attendees included David Gandy (swoon) Nick Grimshaw (he’s a quirky fellow isn’t he?!) and Henry Holland (who was clearly having a quiff off with BFF Nick at every opportunity this week!)

But what of the big trends that will be having a major impact on your boyf’s wardrobe come autumn this year? Well, we’ve done all the hard work for you (we’re nice like that) and rounded up the top 5 looks to work this AW14.

With some savvy shopping, some trends can even be snapped up now in the sales if you’re clever about it, so suss out our guide and get planning now. Well, it never hurts to be prepared does it?!

1. Check it Out: Oh how we love a guy in a checked suit, which is pretty handy because this looks set to be the biggest style to work this AW14 if the designers have anything to say about it. Tight checks over loose reigned supreme over at Hackett, Casely-Hayford and Richard James, whose dapper looking suits will be featured on many a fashion conscious man over the next season we predict.

2. PVC: OK now before you get freaked out, we’re talking waterproof over full on S&M PVC here. Not convinced? Check out Topman Design’s offering- slick PVC capes teamed with sharp tailoring and statement knits gave the collection a real moody gothic feel. A triumph of day one and rightly so, when the finale came, so did the rain!

3. Funnel Necks: Christopher Kane, Topman and JW Anderson made this look very wearable for AW, whereas some others may have tipped the scales slightly (understatement) in favour of creativity over wearability. Who could forget Bobby Abley’s brain/mouse inspired pastel pink sweats that paraded out on day one of LC:M? Exactly! Stick to Topman’s offering in rustic orange or cream and you’ll be on the right side of insanity… promise.

4. Oriental Prints: There was a strong recurring theme through most of the collections presented this week and that was print. Our pick, however is oriental after Richard Nicoll gave us sumptuous silk printed bombers in an oriental print to die for. Craig Green also impressed with his pyjama print offering. A slow burner, but one we think should be invested in.

5. Pop Colour: What better way to liven up the muted colour palette of greys, browns and blacks, than with a splash of pop colour? This look proved popular over at Burberry, James Long and the king of creativity, Christopher Kane whose cobalt blue bobble sweat is on many an editor’s lust list already.

The Goss: Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs

on

Miley Cyrus for Marc Jacobs: Well well, look at Miley all grown up and moody for Marc Jacobs! We had a sneaky suspicion she would reinvent herself yet again for 2014 and landing a campaign for the ever lovely Marc is one of the best ways to do it. We’re loving the super stylised vision- a million miles away from the twerking PVC outfit and hair buns. We heart.

Brit nominees announced: Awards season is going a bit nuts at the moment. Fresh from the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday and ahead of the Golden Globes this weekend, we have some goss a little closer to home… the Brit Award nominees have been announced! No surprise that One Direction are tipped for glory with four gong nominations, whilst Jessie J is up for Best British Female Solo Artist against the equally lovely Ellie Goulding. It’s going to be a corker!

David Beckham for H&M Kids: Is there nothing this man can’t do? Seriously, not content with being the most beautiful man in the world (our view, but we’re sure you agree) and modelling in his undies for H&M (swoon) he has now designed a range of kidswear for the high-street brand as well! Who would understand better than Becks on how to dress your children fashionably? Romeo is already a Burberry model and Harper will land a modelling contract any day now, you mark our words!

Nicole Kidman for Jimmy Choo: She was involved in making one of the most expensive adverts of all time for Chanel a few years ago, and now new pics have surfaced of Nicole Kidman appearing in a campaign for Jimmy Choo and well, she’s certainly not afraid of stripping off, let’s say that! Appearing in high waisted knickers and a blazer (sans bra or top, we might add!) the 46-year-old (yes, we can’t believe it either) looks stunning. Oh and the bags and shoes she’s modelling for the brand don’t look half bad either!

And Finally…

blog.image-laura.bubble-251113-ukFashion Ed’s Pick of the Day: We know it’s only the second week in January, but since the sales kicked off in December, the dregs are going to be left if you don’t get your sale shopping sorted soon. So, Shopcade to the rescue! Check out our Final Sales Picks list here and bag yourself some serious bargains before the first new season drops come later this month.

The Goss Special: British Fashion Awards Style

Rita Ora | Instagram

Where would you find Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof and Rita Ora together at the same time? We’ll tell you where… at the style event of the season of course, the British Fashion Awards!

As anticipated Kate Moss was the woman of the hour, smooching Mr Harry Styles (nothing untoward, just a quick peck!) and posing up a storm with the gorgeous Rita Ora on the red carpet.

Mossy rocked a Grecian style leather mini dress, sky high heels and a white fur coat to wow the fashion crowd, whilst Rita (recently cast as Christian Grey’s sister in Fifty Shades!) went all Marilyn Monroe on us with quaffed peroxide hair and a corseted Vivienne Westwood number to wow the paps.

The Goss: Designers create Christmas knits for charity

on

blog.image-jumper.selection.collage.5-271113-uk
Vivienne Westwood | Burberry | Giles | Alexander McQueen

Designers create Christmas knits for charity: What do Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood have in common? Aside from the fact that they are all AMAZING British designers, they have also each designed a Christmas knit to be auctioned off for charity. In association with Save The Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, the full collection of knits will be on display in The Village at Westfield London from Thursday 28th November. Fancy getting your mitts on one of these knits? Well, in a unique twist it will be the lowest unique bid that wins the prize not the highest, so check out the full competition deets at here to bag yourself a quirky Christmas knit now.

Alexa Chung for Longchamp: Is there anything this woman can’t turn her hand to? TV presenter, writer, muse and model, now… the new face of Longchamp. Appearing in the SS14 & AW14 campaigns Alexa is all loose messy hair, endless legs and gorgeous leather bags. Sigh, some gals have all the luck!

We heart cat prints: oh Miley, how we love you and your quirky sense of style. Fresh from bleaching your eyebrows last week, your AMA performance at the weekend now has us championing cat prints galore. Maybe not in bikini form… we’ll leave that to the very brave, but who doesn’t fancy working a print that features a cute kitten or two?!

And finally….

blog.image-tights.bubble-271113-ukFashion Ed’s pick of the day: Do the Highland fling with this quirky pick of the day! Black tights are like so last season, right now we are all about colourful, patterned and playful winter woollies. These checked tights  will liven up any outfit and give a nod to Autumn’s tartan trend without being too overbearing.
