#GetPacking: Spring Break Beauty – The 5 Products You NEED to Fake A Killer Tan!

on

Over the next three months we will be plotting our summer getaways and we hope you’ll join us! Every week we’ll be packing our bags and traveling to a new destination with Contiki, the worldwide leader in travel tours for 18-35 year olds. Each destination means a whole new wardrobe fit for the locale. On our journey you’ll be able to get tips from top fashion bloggers on beauty and style and sneak a peek at their travel essentials. This week we’re preparing for our Spring Break getaway with beauty blogger, Ashley Schultz of Ashley Rebecca | Makeup Artist – BlogFind out what’s in her Shopcade and get her tips on how to fake a killer tan during the warm months ahead.

Vacation is one of the most important things that you can do for yourself to unwind and regroup There is nothing better than escaping to a tropical get-away, while spending hours on the beach drinking cocktails or reading the perfect book. Travel beauty essentials should be stress free and fun, but keep you lookin’ smoking hot all the day long.

Here are my top spring break beauty picks from Shopcade for how to get that sun-kissed bronze summer glow without any streaky orange self-tanning meltdowns:

  1. St . Tropez Self Tanning Mousse: LADIES, I don’t care how pale you are, this product is the most amazing if not best self tanning mousse that is natural on the fairest of skin tones. With a soft golden bronze undertone, you can see where you are applying it on the skin, which makes accidents and streaks less likely. A great alternative to using before your beach bound vacay to get that perfect golden glow,  without those harmful tanning bed UV rays.
  2. NARS Multiple Stick in “Palm Beach”: One of the easiest products to use, you can apply as eyeshadow, lip color,  cream blush or alternate as a bronzer. The color is the most beautiful bronze tone and easy to apply and blend. Products that have multiple uses are the best kinds to pack for traveling, as they take up less space in your carry on and leave room for little drama.
  3. Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette: With 12 options of gorgeous eyeshadow colors from rose gold to chocolate brown, this is the PERFECT thing to bring on vacation! Not only are all the shades gorgeous with awesome pigment, you can create a million different looks with each one. All your bases are covered in one fabulous palette. (more…)

Fest Dressed: Cowboy, Americana, and Navajo – Three Trends to Try at SXSW

on

It’s time to dust off our flower crowns, girls. (Wait, are those still a thing?) It’s festival season!!! Yes, you’ve heard right. Our favorite time of year is near. The time when winter becomes a distant memory and the spring and summer seasons are ushered with live music – and a lot of it.

SXSW, based in Austin, TX, kicks it off each year. The inaugural fest is different than the rest in that it’s spread throughout the entire town of Austin. There are no camp grounds or gates here, the ENTIRE town becomes a music fest. Aside from being encapsulated in tunes, you’ll also be inundated with some of the best tacos EV-ER. Just those two things alone should sell you.

The big question is, what do you wear to fit in at a fest located in the south? To put it simply, go west Well, west-ern. We recommend denim and navajo print with a splash of classic Americana. And, don’t forget the cowboy boots.

Here are the three festival fashion trends you’re going to want to try when heading to SXSW.

Yeeeehaww!

Cowboy

Channel your inner John Wayne (or Madonna circa her “Music” album phase) at the Austin-based fest. The idea is to pepper in a little of the trend – seen all over the NYFW runways – into your everyday wardrobe. Otherwise, you risk getting mistaken for a rodeo queen instead of a street style star. Don’t know about you but we prefer the latter. Achieve this with a fringe statement piece and a fun pair of western-ispired boots – those are the key

GET THE LOOK | Staring At Stars Suede Fringe Moto Jacket, $299, available at Urban Outfitters; Studded Cowboy Booties, $32.80, available at Forever 21; Sweet Jane Round Sunglasses, $16, available at Urban Outfitters; Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar – Matte Kava Kava 0.33 oz, $18, available at Sephora

Teresa Moore Talks About Resolutions, Life as a Model, and Her Best Beauty Tips After a Night Out!

on

Teresa Moore

Visit Teresa Moore ’s Shopcade and follow her to find out more about her style!

One of our favorite models, Teresa Moore, talks about resolutions, how it feels to be working with the likes of Ralph Lauren and Vogue magazine, and of course shares all of her style and beauty tips with Shopcade.

We are a few days before NYE! What’s the one habit that you promised you will change in the New Year?

Being late. It’s not good and gets me stressed. I think peace is all about finesse.

And what are your personal and business plans for the near future?

Keep on modelling hopefully, have two gorgeous children with the man I love, and build an online business that allows me to work from anywhere in the world.

Haha, we are with you on the online business one! And speaking of business, you have worked with brands such as Ralph Lauren and H&M. Are there any cool stories from the photo sets that you would like to share with us?

When working for H&M, the team was really cool (as Swedish people usually are), and once we shot in Turks and Caicos on the beautiful white sand beaches and on very large driftwood trees which were on the sandbank. We had a camp set up on a sand bank off the island and set up tents and put some equipment there. One of the location guys slept there overnight and didn’t realize we were using the driftwood trees in the pictures and the next day we came back and he had chopped them up and used them to make a fire overnight! It was hilarious and thank God the photographer and client were cool about it!

How has growing up in a small Pacific island and then going to places like New York and Milan changed the way you see the world?

Tonga was a microcosm of expats from all around the world and also very traditional with local culture like feasts, dancing and singing. I think living in New York now I also have the worldly expat community which I find diverse and fulfilling, and culturally there is so much going on you can always be inspired. I think the noise level and material waste (Americans double-bag everything!) was a shock when I moved to a big city. Both are really exciting and vibrant places to live.

What’s the best thing about modelling and what is the biggest misconception people have about your work?

The best thing about modelling is the travel, opportunities and the money which you can all use to build an interesting future. I think the biggest misconception about modelling is that it’s easy! It’s very physical; from working out to stay in shape, long 10-12 hour shoot days, running all over the city for castings, jet lag, airports and more jet lag. You also have to develop a thick skin about what people say and possible rejection for something you don’t entirely control (your genetics) and that takes a little confidence and soul searching.

Your modeling career started when you were quite young. What are the things you wish you knew before you entered the fashion arena?

I wish I knew that people and networking means a lot. I wish I knew that dressing better and cooler adds to your persona. I was just a dorky kid from down under! Once you model for a while you develop systems for traveling, working out, dealing with difficult people and knowing how to model a wide-leg pant or a bikini. Things get easier as you learn the whole business better.

We guess there is a learning curve for everything… Let’s talk about style! What are your must-haves for this winter?

My new Sandro wool coat with leather trim! So cool.

What’s the one thing that you are waiting patiently from a fashion designer to come up with?

More cushy insoles inside cool shoes!

The results are in and the winner is…Taylor Swift!

Thank you to everyone who followed the list and congrats to

Fashion Stylist Q&A: Temporary Secretary

on

From presenting quirky, fun jewellery to featuring a somewhat grumpy (but definitely adorable) cat named Oscar, Sarah’s fashion and beauty blog offers an inspiring, fashionable adventure to all of us. Voted ‘best fashion blog’ by Look Magazine, Temporary:Secretary has a dash of humour and a light-heartedness that bonds well with the abundance of great style and beauty tips that can be found there. We managed to pick Sarah’s brain and learn about her favourite trends, style icons, and her love affair with New York!

Fashion Stylist Q&A: Temporary Secretary
How long are you planning to be a Temporary Secretary?
I’d love to be blogging for as long as I can! In which case, I should probably start considering about changing my blog name to “Permanent Secretary”.

Aliens invade the planet and you need to convince them to spare your blog. What do you say to them?
I’d walk up to them and say “Let’s do a make over! My main thrill in life is a makeover” and if they don’t get the Clueless reference, then sorry, you can’t sit with us…

What’s the funniest email or comment you have received from a reader?
I get very lovely emails and messages from readers. The weirdest email was from a brand who wanted me to write about them. They didn’t do anything bad, and they were also very wonderful people, it was just bad targeting. I won’t name them, but basically they sold things like gimp masks and whips. Nothing wrong with that at all, it’s just not really my kind of thing!

If your cat Oscar could speak, what would he say about the world of fashion? Is there a rivalry between him and Karl Lagerfeld’s cat?
I’m not sure if there’s rivalry between him and Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, but he sure is jealous of Grumpy Cat. I think Oscar and Grumpy could potentially be BFF’s. They would get together and laugh at how silly fashion is.

Fashion Stylist Q&A: Temporary Secretary - Oscar
What is the best and the worst part of being a blogger?
Best part is being interviewed by Shopcade, of course! :) My favourite part of being a blogger is getting to know the community, and even working with a few of the bloggers. I also love working with brands who are clued up on how blogs work. My blog is like my baby and what I put on there will ultimately reflect me as a person so I’m precious with who I work with and what content I create. Only the best will do for my wonderful readers! Nothing really stands out enough to make me mention a worst part of being a blogger. Probably the negativity that surrounds the community from people who don’t quite get it.

Define your style in a few words…
I don’t put that much effort into my outfits, I don’t make it a point to be a certain way. As long as it is smart and presentable, then I’m happy. I used to think that I had a pretty normal sense of style, but then when people comment on things I wear by saying such things like “that skirt… my grandma would wear it”, I do wonder where I’m going wrong!

Who’s your style icon?
Kate Middleton and Zooey Deschanel.

What’s your failsafe fashion piece this season?
A trench coat. Classically British!

What’s your colour for this season? I like all the red tartan I’m seeing this season!

Fashion Week Special

Milan, London, Paris or New York for a Fashion Week?
New York – the best city in the world for EVERYTHING!

Let’s say you are a DJ for a catwalk show, what is your ideal soundtrack?
SleepyHead by Passion Pit. It was used on the catwalk at Graduate Fashion Week a couple of years ago and it was so good. Goose pimples and everything!

Who is your favourite street style photographer?
I don’t know any other than the popular “mainstream” ones. When I first started to read blogs, all I read were street style ones. Now I only read personal style/fashion blogs. I get more style inspiration for them.

What’s the one trend that you really don’t want to see again on the catwalks?
I’m open to all, but I don’t really like anything furry.

Top tip – keep a bottle in the fridge for an extra-cooling spritz!

2) Wild Rose Beauty Balm – This multi-purpose balm works amazingly as a cleanser, exfoliator and moisturiser so it’s a great all-rounder when you’re on a summer getaway. Top tip – The rosehip seed oil in Wild Rose Beauty Balm is a great anti-inflammatory which means it can cool and soothe sun-kissed skin.

3) Firming Body Cream – If you’re prepping for a summer beach holiday, Firming Body Cream is the perfect partner to help smooth and firm dimpled skin. Top tip: Apply after exfoliating or body brushing for the best results!

4) Aloe Vera After Sun – A summer must have to soothe and refresh tender or irritated skin if you’ve caught a few too many rays. This after sun spray helps cool down over-heated skin, no matter the weather, so great one to use all year round.

5) Organic Shea Nut and Rosehip Lip Balm – This soothing lip balm helps to relive and protect dry, chapped lips and to keep them looking supple and smooth, even in the hottest weather! matte-lips

Bright matte lips are your best accessory this summer! (Image via Go Runway)[/caption]

If you are going to carry one thing in your purse this season make sure it’s a tube of bright, matte lipstick!

Let the bold color have all the attention this season by minimizing shine. Bright lips look good on everyone as long as you find a color that best compliments your skin tone. The most universally complimentary color is a bright pink but don’t be afraid to go for a great coral, light red, purple, or my favorite – a mandarin orange!

Nars and Smashbox have some great matte shades but if you are looking for a less expensive option check out Maybelline’s ‘Vivids‘ collection that will only set you back a few dollars.

To make the most of the bright lip keep the rest of your face natural and neutral with minimal color.

bronze

Go for the bronze without ruining your skin! (Image via GoRunway)[/caption]

In the season of sunshine and bikinis we all want to get that sun-kissed glow. There are a number of products available to get that bronzed look without doing permanent damage to your skin in the process.

For your face bronzer is a key part of summer. After you have applied sunscreen (preferably a moisturizer with SPF) and your base sweep on a bronze powder along your cheekbones, forehead, and lightly on the nose and chin. Use the bronzer wherever the sun would naturally touch your face. Try a variety with some pink hues mixed in to give you that natural, flushed look.

For the rest of your body focus on a gradual self-tan product like a great gradual moisturizer by St. Tropez or the even application of Tan Towels. While you can use a spray to expedite the process the easiest way to avoid streaking is to build up the tanned look.

nails1

A bright manicure goes with all your summer looks! (Image via bellasugar.com)

Retire your spring pastels and dare to be bold! This summer eye-catching manicures in bright colors go with everything.

The big color for summer is all shades of pink so a great go-to shade would be a bright watermelon or coral. But don’t be afraid to think outside the box with a trendy tangerine hue.

Brands with some great bold colors include Essie and Deborah Lippman but if you have a favorite brand chances are they have some bright shades of their own!

So get going! The weather is only getting warmer! Start your summer beauty list now on Shopcade with products from Beauty.com and save!
