Idle Lane

Dancer, model and blogger Danielle Peazer of IdleLane.com is our September Style Blogger Council member ready to get judging your style in the fashionista style stakes this month! Find out about what trends she’ll be rocking this season, which may pop-megastar is following her on Twitter and what she thinks makes people stand out from the crowd, to see if you can catch her eye on the Shopcade app!

What’s on your shopping list this season?

Moving into A/W I’m on the look out for cosy knitwear, it’s so vital when the weather gets colder!

What do you think is the thing that makes people’s style really stand out?

I think people’s style stands out when they’re truly comfortable in what they’re wearing and are happy in their outfit. It’s an added confidence that comes naturally.

What trends, if any are you loving this season?

I’ve loved the amount of lace overlays that have been on trend. I’ve got a few pieces and they always catch my eye when I’m out shopping.

Who are your fave designers?

I love Reformation and Sandro but for high end designers as well as Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Burberry for their leather jackets!

Best high street brands?

I’m a massive fan of Zara and Topshop. I also love Monki and love to shop online at Missguided and Asos.

Whose style do you admire?

I love Ashley Madekwe’s style and Naya Riviera’s sharp look that she always has. I love Vanessa Hudgens and wish I could pull off the boho look as well as she does!

Have you ever had a fashion faux pas?

I’ve had a few yeah! I used to own this faux fur leopard print coat that didn’t suit me at all but I tried to make it work – I looked terrible!

What’s your favourite piece in your wardrobe atm?

I recently bought a linen mac from Zara. It’s calf length and I loved it so much in beige that I bought the exact same one in black!

What item could you not live without? Fashion/Beauty item…

I couldn’t live without my Mac lip conditioner – it’s better than Vaseline but not as sticky as lip gloss. And it comes in a few different shades too.

Shopcade Hits Global Gathering!

Our Shopcade Fashion Correspondents Analise & Sophie hit Global Gathering and here’s how it went down! Find out more from Sophie on her time there, who she was raving with and of course, what she was wearing…

“I was lucky enough to gain press access to ‘Global Gathering’ festival and attend on behalf of Shopcade. And boy, what a cracking festival it was! I didn’t get the tickets till two days before so it was a manic rush to raid my wardrobe and find the perfect festival looks before the big day – a fashionista’s gotta plan her outfit eh?!

Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 14.31.51 Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 14.30.53

I opted for the perfect festival footwear – a pair of Caterpillar boots in original brown suede; comfy yet fashionable footwear. You need comfy shoes when you’re at a weekend festival as you’re on your feet non-stop all day and you also gotta think about the weather and Cat boots are perfect if there’s mud.

On my top half I wore ASOS’s mesh tee with a black bra and high-waist pants underneath. I absolutely love the 90s mesh trend that’s taken over this SS14, it adds ‘edge’ to your style, something I try and work into all my looks. If you know me well, you’ll know I love over-accessorizing, so I worked a body chain into my outfit to finish off my look. Body chains have crept in as a late summer fashion trend but I just love them as they go with absolutely everything. That was only day one’s outfit! On day two I kept it simple and put on my fave oversized Adidas print tee – I wanted to go with more of a sporty vibe this time; another dominant trend.

Shopcade Dates: The Creative Team

For our June Style Battle™, we’ve taken Style Council members on Shopcade dates to find out more about them, their style and what fashion advice they can share!

For this date we took Rachel Holland, our June stylist for the winner’s shoot, and Alice Luker, fashion photographer, to My Old Dutch, London’s infamous pancake house where we stuffed ourselves with savoury and sweet ones topped off with a Ferrero Rocher milkshake…delicious!

And now, to business…

Rachel Holland

1. How would you describe your style?

Heavily influenced by the 1960s and 1970s, often minimal, inspired by travelling and with a bit of rock ‘n’ roll thrown in.

2. What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?

My jewellery. I’ve been collecting unusual pieces for years.

3. What are your have trends this Summer?

I love the denim on denim trend, it’s so wearable and easy to pull off. Also carrying a leather rucksack instead of a handbag, it looks really modern and much more relaxed than a formal bag.

4. What are your fave three brands?

Acne, Margiela, Givenchy

5. Give us one piece of fashion advice…

Dress yourself in an organic, natural way and be true to yourself. Find your own individual style and your own way of dressing that feels good. Expressing who you are on the inside and reflecting it onto the outside beats mindlessly following the trends; That’s how most fashion editors dress – they find what works for them and they stick to it, almost like a uniform. You can then have fun switching up your look with accessories, jackets and shoes for each new season.

How To Rock Baroque

on

The baroque look is going nowhere right now. Around for two seasons and still going strong, as we head into festival territory, trophy jackets, embellishments and statement prints will be massive this summer!

Want to know how to rock baroque in style? Then read on to see how you can achieve this regal look with our guide on the hottest prints and accessories this season…

Pick your Prints

Baroque is all about opulence. Remember, baroque back in the day symbolised a “period of artistic style that began around 1600 in Rome & Italy”, so says our trusty friend, Wikipedia.

Updated for the 21st century, church prints still feature heavily, only now it’s intertwined with flashy chain, floral and animal prints as standard.

Pay Motel Rocks a visit to check out their selection of prints (a specialty of theirs, we’re sure you’ll agree) or Boohoo who really got behind baroque for AW13 & SS14 to produce an amazing collection.

Tell us about your part on the Shopcade Style Council?

I’ll be judging the participants entries and deciding who my favourite style battler is, as well as jumping on the decks to get everyone in the disco mood at the #StyleBattle party!

What, in your opinion, makes people’s style stand out against anyone else?

Individuality. London is just brimming with so many different styles and it’s amazing that we have such freedom to wear what we want without people judging! I mean I have seen some sights, but it always makes me smile!

Fest Dressed: Cowboy, Americana, and Navajo – Three Trends to Try at SXSW

on

It’s time to dust off our flower crowns, girls. (Wait, are those still a thing?) It’s festival season!!! Yes, you’ve heard right. Our favorite time of year is near. The time when winter becomes a distant memory and the spring and summer seasons are ushered with live music – and a lot of it.

SXSW, based in Austin, TX, kicks it off each year. The inaugural fest is different than the rest in that it’s spread throughout the entire town of Austin. There are no camp grounds or gates here, the ENTIRE town becomes a music fest. Aside from being encapsulated in tunes, you’ll also be inundated with some of the best tacos EV-ER. Just those two things alone should sell you.

The big question is, what do you wear to fit in at a fest located in the south? To put it simply, go west Well, west-ern. We recommend denim and navajo print with a splash of classic Americana. And, don’t forget the cowboy boots.

Here are the three festival fashion trends you’re going to want to try when heading to SXSW.

Yeeeehaww!

Cowboy

Channel your inner John Wayne (or Madonna circa her “Music” album phase) at the Austin-based fest. The idea is to pepper in a little of the trend – seen all over the NYFW runways – into your everyday wardrobe. Otherwise, you risk getting mistaken for a rodeo queen instead of a street style star. Don’t know about you but we prefer the latter. Achieve this with a fringe statement piece and a fun pair of western-ispired boots – those are the key

GET THE LOOK | Staring At Stars Suede Fringe Moto Jacket, $299, available at Urban Outfitters; Studded Cowboy Booties, $32.80, available at Forever 21; Sweet Jane Round Sunglasses, $16, available at Urban Outfitters; Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar – Matte Kava Kava 0.33 oz, $18, available at Sephora

What to Wear on the FROW

on

If you’re going to be in the FROW at London Fashion Week then you need to look amazing at all times. What are we saying, you need to look amazing at all times anyway! But with the camera on you, rocking the best of the latest looks becomes even more important.

Here’s what we reckon you should be rocking if you’re going to be on the FROW (next to Anna and co. natch) this season…

Go Designer

While there are many looks you can adapt for the FROW, the designer dress look is probably the safest bet. The trouble is, what type of designer dress are you going to choose?

You can pretty much pick what you like as long as you go for something that fits the occasion, meaning something that looks smart but is part of a dressed down look – you shouldn’t look like you’re going to a cocktail party! Your budget needs to come into consideration, too.

How to Choose the Perfect Pair of Jeans

on

Ladies, we all know how important denim is in our wardrobe. Whether it’s a pair of jeans to throw on for a lazy day at home or a great pair of skinnies that we can wear on a night out, without denim we know we’re in trouble.

You’ll probably know that men aren’t the best at choosing jeans, but we’re just as liable to committing a fashion faux-pas as our better halves. You don’t need to worry, however, as we’ve put together this great guide that will help you choose the perfect pair of jeans. You’re Welcome :-)

Shop the High Street

Seriously, girls, if you’ve fallen for the “designer denims give a better fit” line, then you need to put that to the back of your mind right now! You can get great denim at a fraction of the price on the high street, without sacrificing anything when it comes to style.

Hit the shops now- we’re loving ASOS and Cheap Monday’s offering right now- and try on all your favourite looking denims in all the stores you normally shop in. If you can’t find anything you like (but we’re sure you will!) then you can start thinking about designer.

The A-Z of 2014 Fashion Trends

on

2013 is like sooo last year and so are the trends! It’s time to take a look at the hottest 2014 fashion trends due to hit the high street any day now.

We’ve made it nice and easy in our A-Z of top trends which will see you through the year in style. So sit back, relax and let’s start at the very beginning…

A is for Androgynous: Big in 2013, even bigger in 2014, the boy/girl divide is closing and it seems we are embracing dressing like our other halves. Sharp tailoring, crisp white shirts and the one-off boyfriend jumper thrown in and you’ll be sorted.

B is for Bohemian: Free spirits rejoice! Paisley prints, mixed fabrics and fringed accessories all make up this trend and will start to filter onto the rails in their droves come early spring, so snap up the key pieces early and you’ll be set for festival season in style.

C is for Checks: We teased this as a trend to watch in our SS14 preview last year- checks are set to be the print to watch this season, mark our words! Think loose checks in candy colours as your must buy now and tightly woven checks in darker colours for later on in the year and you can’t go wrong.
