Presenting The Shopcade 2014 Competition Winners!

Earlier this year, we launched three competitions for our loyal following of @Shopcade members to win several amazing prizes for themselves and even for their BFFs! Giving them a shout-out here, we hope they’ve enjoyed the fruits of their labour and we can’t wait to organise even more competitions so more of you can join in the fun!

First up, there’s @jelly-babyvalentino who scooped the prize for our #JDSports competition with her winning #kingoftrainers pic. Brightly lit and well-framed, this well-accessorised girl knew how to catch our eye with her poised yet focused look. Taking home a brand new pair of kicks from JD Sports, we’re in no doubt @jelly-babyvalentino’s slick taste in styling will make her the coolest girl on the block!

Next, our Bank Fashion wishlist winner @serenasboard put together the winning #BankFashion @Shopcade list which you can check out here. Having styled a combo of slogan and graphic print tees, an on-trend biker and varsity jacket, some converse hi-tops and even menswear pieces she’d like to mix and match, @serenasboard certainly knows how to put the £100 prize to use! With her ‘Wants’ list on Shopcade bursting with the latest grunge and rocker chick looks, we can’t wait to see what other lists she’ll put together.

Last but not least, the lucky winner of our @Shopcade and #F&F competition #FlipTheGrade is none other than @chloebrookes-h. Submitting a #selfie of herself with her BFF in a fabulous prom pose, her winning look gained 169 likes from friends and fellow Shopcaders. Pictured in a stunning sparkling floor-length ball gown with a white clutch purse, @chloebrookes-h is certainly pretty for prom. As her reward, she bagged a day out with her BFF’s as well as £150 from F&F. Not bad, huh?!

For what’s hot on @Shopcade right now, check out our Christmas Gifts lists for friends, family and even your co-workers!

We’re three-quarters of the way done with fashion week season. So far, we’ve spotted street style at New York Fashion Week, threw a crazy bash in London for LFW, and, as we speak, have our eyes glued to for all the new collections in Milan. If you’re anything like us, you’re already plotting your moves for next fall. Of course, we can’t wait for spring and summer but September through November are our favorite months to put outfits together. Hello, boots, scarves, and chunky knit sweaters! You know exactly what we mean.

After scanning the runways of some of our favorite designers for NYFW fall trends, we started to notice a handful of trends that, um, we weren’t so sure we’d be embracing…even six months from now. We asked our friends at Betches Love This – the snarky internet-BFFs that tell it like it is on everything from bros to celeb style – for their take on sleeveless coats, menswear-insipred footwear, bright red, and more. Because, if anyone will tell us the truth, they will!

“Don’t eh’stomp your last season high heeled Loubs at me honay.” But really, I don’t know any straight man who would ever wear a bow on his shoe, so this isn’t menswear. This is a pointy leather shoe with a chunky kitten heel. And if you ever wore these out, no man would ever hit on you no matter how hot you were, because he’d think – nay- know you were a lesbian.

Omg. RED. I would have never thought to wear red if someone, especially the man who designs dresses like Zoe Saldana’s for the Golden Globes, had come up with the idea! His inspo must’ve definitely been Game of the Thrones Red Wedding. Anyway, Redddddd!! Taylor Swift must be pleased with herself.

Root For your Fave Football Team In Style With These Competing Super Bowl Looks

Are you ready for some football?!?! We sure are! Wellll, let’s clarify a bit. Not just ANY football, SUPER BOWL football.

During the regular football season you get a bunch of guys running around the field doing…something (we’re not exactly sure), none of your boyfriend’s attention, and crowded bars filled with dudes yelling at the TV. Blech! But, during the Super Bowl – the final championship game between the two best football teams in the country – all of those annoying things fade away.

Here’s why…

1. Halftime – The time between the second and third quarter when someone like Beyonce brings down the house with an amazing concert that everyone, everywhere talks about forever. Madonna’s done it. Janet Jackson has done it (remember the Justin Timberlake incident?), and this year Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will take the stage. Bring it on!

2. Super Bowl Commercials – Major brands pay millions of dollars to air LEGENDARY commercials on Game Day. Dorritos, GoDaddy, and Pizza Hut are always heavy hitters. A personal fave of all time is this one from Google.

3. Party Time – People around the country use this sporting event to as an excuse to throw WILD parties with kegs, trays of taco dips that look like a football field, and, of course, anything grilled. If that’s wrong, we don’t want to be right. Where da party at?!

If you’re as excited as we are, the only thing left to do is pick your team and you’re well on your way to having mega Super Bowl style!

3 MAJOR Trends We Spotted at the 2014 Golden Globes

The 2014 Golden Globes, the first big awards show of the year, was last night. A kick off to two months of critiquing celeb runway style – dresses, jewelry, hair and makeup.

From Lupita Nyong’o’s stunning Ralph Lauren to Joanna Newsom’s Little Miss Muffet-inspired disaster, we poured over every red carpet look – the good, the bad, AND the ugly – to get some new fashion inspo for our own wardrobes. What we found are three seriously stylish trends we cannot wait to try!

Who wore your favorite look of the night?

1. Go Big Red

(From L- R) Lupita Nyong’o’s (Ralph Lauren), Amy Adams (Valentino), Emma Watson (Dior), and funny-woman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Narciso Rodriquez), had us seeing red at the 2014 Golden Globes. The bright-and-sexy hue made us want to run out and get our very own crimson frock. Forget the LBD. We want an LRD, NOW!

The Quirky Trends of 2013

Quirky Trends of 2013

Yes. 2014 is well and truly underway. As we say goodbye to all that is so last year, we take a look back at some of the popular, and er, slightly weird, trends of 2013 that we were all (and probably still are!) loving.

5. Cat Lady

Quirky Trends of 2013 - 5. Cat Lady

Yep, the cat’s outta the bag. We all know watching cat videos is one of the best things ever. That was until we discovered CAT CLOTHING! We turned into crazy cat ladies last year, wearing feline finds to make our outfits look extra purrfect. (Sorry, couldn’t help ourselves!)

From dressed up moggies to chic feline prints, we just couldn’t get enough of it.

4. Halloweird

Quirky Trends of 2013 - 4. HalloweirdAs usual, we discovered some pretty quirky Halloween costume ideas. There was just too much to choose from, from animal onesies to galaxy leggings and bubble wrap suits – we were jumping at the chance to accept that costume party invite.

Of course, our fave celeb inspo last year comes from the one and only Queen of Twerk, Miley Cyrus. Where do we even start…?!

3. Back To The Future

Quirky Trends of 2013 - 3. Back To The FutureMetallics, creepers, studs, spikes and holographic pieces. We felt out of this world wearing one of our futuristic outfits. And it sure did make those heads turn.

One of our all-time wardrobe must-haves is a metallic clutch bag (gold, or silver) which is sure to match any evening outfit.

2. Talk To The Sweat

Quirky Trends of 2013 - 2. Talk To The SweatWho needs to talk the talk when your sweatshirt says it all, eh?! Slogan sweats were all the rage last year with you trendy fashionistas making a statement wherever you went.

These weirdly wonderful pieces can be worked in so many ways, we were just spoilt for choice! From pairing with some joggers and strappy sandals for a sports luxe outfit or adding to a plaid skirt and creepers for schoolgirl chic, we loved rocking this look.

1. Rainbow Hair

Quirky Trends of 2013 - 1. Rainbow HairYep, you guessed it. Hair chalk has made it to numero uno in our top 5 quirky trends of 2013. A style we’re STILL trying to pull off, come rain or shine, this year!

Go for pastels this Spring/Summer to keep bang on trend and try curling your hair beforehand for a long-lasting effect.

And now we just can’t wait to see what weird and wonderful micro-trends 2014 has to offer…

Cheers to a New Year from all at Shopcade!

Happy New Year Shopcade

Note from Shopcader Nathalie Gaveau

Shopcade CEO and Co-Founder

Hello Shopcaders,

Let me start by sending you lots of virtual hugs for your amazing love and support in 2013.

In 2011, we built Shopcade for today’s busy young fashionistas so there’s a single place to keep up with the best trends and deals from reliable sources such as today’s top magazines, celebrities, bloggers, brands and fellow fashion-savvy geniuses out there.

And in 2013, we launched our new mobile apps on IOS7 and Android and grew to a community of over half a million fashionistas and 30,000 brands, making Shopcade one of the biggest places to shop fashion and broke new sales records every week. We also built widgets for bloggers to showcase their favourite products to their fans.

But that’s not all. After your holiday cheerios, here’s what we will cuddle you with in 2014:

More Fashion Trends

We’re partnering with even more magazines, bloggers and celebrities and expanding our team of fashion correspondents in the US and the UK, who will spot the latest trends and styles on your behalf. You can expect to hear about the latest “fashion goss”, keep up with the “ones to watch” and show off with our “get the look” and more, daily.

More Social

We want to make our stylish Shopcaders famous. That’s why we will allow Shopcaders to add photos and videos to express their style, and crown the most stylish ones with the “Miss & Mr Shopcade” prizes – winning stylish treats and being featured to the whole community.

More Deals

Part of being the best place to shop is to help you save money. We will feature even more fashionable deals from our partners, including exclusive offers from todays’ most fashionable brands and emerging designers.

More Mobile

We will optimize the mobile apps to be simpler and even more personalized based on your location and interests. If our mobile app is the word “window” in “window-shopping”, we will polish it like gold.

See you in 2014!

PS: we are always on the look out for bright and fashionable young minds, whether it be bloggers, curators, ambassadors or fashion-addict trendsetters, so don’t hesitate to contact us!

3 Holiday Nail Looks from NYC Nail Artist Extrordinaire, Miss Ladyfinger

Taryn Multack, better known by her profesh name, Miss Ladyfinger is a nail artist living in NYC. The Syracuse U grad majored in fashion design but uses her trained eye to turn digits (in lieu of fabric) into haute couture. She finds trends everywhere – from the streets to the catwalk – to create her cutting edge nail art. Her goal is to make the world a more stylish and, ahem, polished place.

We think she’s doing a pretty good job so we caught up with Taryn to talk about her designer wish list, 2014 nail trends, and tips (get it) for every girl on new ways to style their holiday nails.

If you could have ONE designer item under your tree/menorah/kwanzaa bush this year, what would it be?

A drawstring backpack from The Row.

Nail polish is getting banned. You can only safely stow away ONE color. Which one is it?

I’d have to say Peridot by Chanel.

2014 is almost here! Last year was all about the pointy nail, what new nail trend do we have to look forward to in months ahead?

My new favorite thing ever— matte! And nude. Together they look really chic.

Imagine you have three girlfriends. One lives Uptown, one lives Downtown, and one lives in Brooklyn. How would you paint their nails for a holiday party?
