Shopcade Style: China Doll

One of the summer’s most refreshing trends on Shopcade, and all over the fashion world, is inspired by ancient hand painted porcelain from the Far East.

High fashion brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli have worked the blue and white porcelain prints into their Spring 2013 collections but many other, more affordable, brands have taken a stab at the China print trend as well.

Inspiration for the trend dates back to the 9th century when cobalt blue decorations began adorning white porcelain pottery. The Chinese embraced this aesthetic and adorned bowls, plates, sculptures, and vases with hand-painted dragons and flowers for hundreds of years. Since the 16th century many other cultures (namely European) have adopted the look utilizing designs that better represent their own culture.

The pieces in the image above are modern representations of the ancient practice with bowls from Hic, lamp from China Furniture Online, and jar and vase from C. Wonder.

The China print style can be seen across brands in pants, dresses, tops, shoes, swimwear and accessories. Prints can be floral or geometric, construction loose and airy and sturdy with clean lines. Lucky for you Shopcade has made seeking these pieces out a lot easier!

One of our favorite pieces is a fun and flirty swing dress by ASOS that would work with any budget, on any body. Other great pieces include a fun Oscar De La Renta lotus swimsuit, retro dress from ModCloth, and Alice + Olivia cuffed shorts.

You don’t have to find a piece with the perfect pattern to wear this trend. Pair a crisp white top with a pair of sleek cobalt ankle pants — the color combination is the key.

This skater skirt by ASOS is a summer must have!

If your budget is a little higher try this “Dahlia” tiered gown by Alice + Olivia.

These skinnies from Forever 21 are great to pair with light neutrals!
