LC:M Report: Live @ Xander Zhou

We’ve had a busy few days hopping from show to show for LC:M (yes, that was us partying it up with David Gandy and indeed, we were hanging out at the Moschino & I-D party on Monday) but there’s nothing like actually seeing a show and checking out what is going to be big next season!

Fresh from being backstage at Baartmans and Siegel earlier in the day, we headed over to The Old Sorting Office to queue with the rest of the fash pack for the highly anticipated Xander Zhou show at 2pm.

Taking our seat a few rows behind the gorgeous Oliver Cheshire (sans girlfriend, Pixie Lott) the show opened with blaring electro music, which kicked off proceedings nicely. A predominantly dark colour palette was used, with hints of glitter and sparkles in the form of blazers and oversized jackets, teamed with flashes of pop colour seen in trainers and accessories.

The collection had a futuristic/sports luxe vibe running throughout, from the oversized shapes teamed with fabrics like mesh making an appearance. Accessories like skateboards, luxurious gym bags and headbands kept the collection feeling relaxed and away from mainstream, which is what Zhou has become known for.

Teamed with this futuristic look, there was second linear tone that felt a bit more dark and sinister- ‘The Joker’ effect of smeared lipstick and white make-up used on some of the models certainly made people take notice.

In fact, shortly after this, the tone shifted again with the appearance of a Darth Vader motif appearing on jackets and jumpers, all paving the way for a dramatic finale.

The catwalk plunged into darkness, with only the Star Wars music blasting out, you could feel and sense movement but in the darkness see nothing and then… up came the lights and out charged the models towards the end of the runway. Spectacular showmanship and it undoubtedly left us all feeling a tad overwhelmed. A triumph? Most definitely!
