We’re just going to admit it… we are huge fans of Lana Del Rey here @Shopcade! Girl has amazing retro style, makes awesome music and has a make-up look most of us would kill for. Our guest blogger and star beauty curator, Polina Berdos shows us how to master the 60s siren look a la Del Rey in her fab video below.

Over to you, Polina…

“Beautiful Lana. She is such a phenomenon! I really love her classic 60s make-up and fashion style. She is so famous for her signature matte classic eye look with thick winged black eye liner, paired with nude or red lips.

In that way, she’s not only a songwriter and a singer but a make-up inspiration. Her looks make a lot of people miss 60s make-up, so I used her for inspiration when recreating this kind of look.

Lana uses a lot of natural shades, combined with a black liner. Just like in the 60s, the crease is one of the most important things to emphasise. A pair of false eyelashes is necessary in my opinion to complete her flirty eye make up.

Her thick black eyeliner gives her make up a cool retro feel. So classic, 60s mixed with a little American hipster plus sweet and chic all at the same time.

A perfect balance between classic and edgy. This tutorial will show you step by step how to achieve that siren cut crease look. You can find the products that I used and some similar products in my Shopcade List. So let’s live in the 60s for a moment!”

30+ Winter Street Style Snaps From NY Fashion Week

on

New York Fashion Week was quite nippy this time around so you’d expect a lot of frumpy fashionistas battling the cold in their toughest arctic-worthy gear. But, alas, they surprised us by making due with their duds and somehow, as if by magic, turning them into some of the finest looks we’ve ever laid eyes on. The trick – color, color, and more color. Pink, yellow, orange, and blue were everywhere! It was as if spring had sprung!

Others opted for texture  – the fur was flying. We can’t help but think the Olympic games in Sochi had a little something to do with it. Plus, we spotted a couple of gutsy ladies wearing the PVC trend. Not warm but, hey, at least they looked amazing.

If you need some help getting a handle on your cold weather style these last few weeks of the cold season, we snapped over 30 guys and girls on the streets of NYC who will help inspire you to wear something other than your puffy coat. In fact, this winter street style might even help you get some ideas for the warmer months ahead.

Root For your Fave Football Team In Style With These Competing Super Bowl Looks

on

Are you ready for some football?!?! We sure are! Wellll, let’s clarify a bit. Not just ANY football, SUPER BOWL football.

During the regular football season you get a bunch of guys running around the field doing…something (we’re not exactly sure), none of your boyfriend’s attention, and crowded bars filled with dudes yelling at the TV. Blech! But, during the Super Bowl – the final championship game between the two best football teams in the country – all of those annoying things fade away.

Here’s why…

1. Halftime – The time between the second and third quarter when someone like Beyonce brings down the house with an amazing concert that everyone, everywhere talks about forever. Madonna’s done it. Janet Jackson has done it (remember the Justin Timberlake incident?), and this year Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will take the stage. Bring it on!

2. Super Bowl Commercials – Major brands pay millions of dollars to air LEGENDARY commercials on Game Day. Dorritos, GoDaddy, and Pizza Hut are always heavy hitters. A personal fave of all time is this one from Google.

3. Party Time – People around the country use this sporting event to as an excuse to throw WILD parties with kegs, trays of taco dips that look like a football field, and, of course, anything grilled. If that’s wrong, we don’t want to be right. Where da party at?!

If you’re as excited as we are, the only thing left to do is pick your team and you’re well on your way to having mega Super Bowl style!

How to Wear Lace

on

Lace isn’t always something we’d associate with high fashion, and if we do we’ll often think that we need to spend a small fortune to get a great look.  This definitely isn’t the case, however, and when lace is on trend you can make sure you’re in position to take advantage and make it an essential part of your high fashion style. Learning how to wear lace could make a real difference to your wardrobe.

Black Lace Tops

This is the simplest way to get lace into your wardrobe and is probably the look that most girls will go for.  We’ve all seen the V-neck or scoop neck tops that have lace trim detail around the neckline, the problem is that we often have no idea what to pair it with, so it gets left on the shelf.

When it comes to a black lace top, leather trousers and boots are 100% what you should be wearing with them.  This gives you an edgy look and doesn’t actually use a lot of lace; although you’ll need to be sure you’re comfortable in leather!  If you want to add lace then do so through your accessories; a lace lined bag or even a hat would fit the bill.

The Ruffled Lace Look

If you want to wear lace to the full then a ruffled lace top is where you should be aiming your focus.  Such a top is classic yet romantic and modern all at once, and looks amazing when worn with a pencil skirt and heels.

You can also pair a ruffled lace top with tailored trousers and a jacket, giving you options when it comes to wearing lace to work or out on the town; it is perfect for a formal or dressier outfit in equal measure.

Metallic Lace Tops & Dresses

When you think of lace and even when you look around shops or online you’re probably taken aback by just how many lace products are black.  Metallic lace is a refreshing alternative then and perfect if you want to combine vintage style inspirations with a modern twist.

Look for metallic lace tops and dresses in pinks, whites, and other lighter colours and then match and accessorise appropriately.  Flat shoes look great with metallic lace – especially if they sparkle, too! – although you should rein in the glitz when it comes to your bag and jewellery.  Finish the look with cute accessories like vintage inspired hairbands and bangles.

Lace Skirts

Lace on the lower half only can get you a great look and give you some licence to play around up top; a lace skirt is excellent for wearing to work and will look great with a blouse or even a smart fitted t-shirt.  A lace skirt for work will be black or navy, which means simple heels and functional accessories to finish the look.  If you can find a flowing lace skirt then this is great casual wear for the summer to pair up with a basic t-shirt or strappy top, though you might want to avoid wearing it at the beach!

How to Dress Like Victoria Beckham

on

Victoria Beckham's Style

Whether you love her, hate her, or would simply like to steal her husband, Victoria Beckham has a gift for provoking opinion among women (and sometimes men) everywhere.  What cannot be denied is she’s one of the most stylish women on Earth, and someone to whom we can all look up to in the style stakes.

Getting the Victoria Look

Forget that the tabloid press says she’s always pouting and miserable looking; the fact is Mrs Beckham’s style brings together everything a girl wants to achieve from fashion; confidence, style, femininity, and even power with the right outfit.

The best thing about Vic is that when you look closely her fashion sense is actually remarkably simple.  Here’s how to get the look.

Keeping it Simple

Timeless, classic, generally dark colours, and above all, simple; there’s a reason why Victoria is never pictured wearing questionable outfits.  Who cares about being called boring by people who don’t know fashion if you get to look that good all of the time?

Her trademark look is the little black dress, which as Karl Lagerfeld famously said means you can never be overdressed nor underdressed.  Easy to throw on with high heels, a handbag, and accessories, this is a Victoria Beckham essential.

When not rocking a LBD, a pencil skirt is another popular choice for Victoria.  Think of the woman herself; black or grey is the direction to head here; resist those colourful and patterned pencil skirts that are widely available!  Match your pencil skirt with a simple blouse, and you’re ready to go.

Denims and formal tailored trousers are always skinny; there’s no other way to do it, and can be worn with blouses, t-shirts, and finished with an oversized coat.

VB Add Ons & Accessories

What about the finishing touches to the Victoria Beckham look?  The two obvious accessories are the sunglasses and the handbag.  Ray Ban Wayfarers or other large lens, face covering glasses are a must, and if you’ve gone for the full look with a Victoria bob haircut your face will be framed beautifully.

For the handbag, you have licence to be creative, as it’s the one area Victoria perhaps doesn’t keep it simple.  Instead, she prefers large handbags, and while she goes for black you can always go for a brighter colour if you wanted to put your own twist on the look and use it as a statement accessory.

Finish With Footwear

The question is the same as we all face; heeled or flat?  The answer depends on what you’re wearing based on the products above.  You can’t wear your LBD with anything other than heels, and the same stands for a pencil skirt, too.  When it comes to denims and tailoring, the choice is yours, but flats are often a good change up if you want the more casual side of Victoria’s style.

The Five B’s: Which Winter Hat Are You?!

on

‘Snow is fallin’ all around me!’ Oh no wait it hasn’t started to snow yet… but that doesn’t mean it isn’t time to dig out the winter woollies and purchase that all important new winter hat!

The question is…. Which winter hat are you? What? You didn’t realise that your style was completely defined by the kind of hat that you wore?! Well, that simply won’t do. Let us school you on the five B’s of the hat world…

Bobble Hat: Geeky cool at its very best. Once reserved for the nerds of this world who were more worried about keeping warm than being fashionable, the humble bobble hat has made a return to the spotlight. You will either be the person that has worn one for years and doesn’t give a damn, or a newbie cashing in on the hot look this season. MIC’s Millie Mackintosh & Kelly Brook are the celeb messiahs of this trend, so look to them for some style inspo if you’re struggling to find your bobble this season.

Bowler: You’re too cool for school; a fashionista who always looks good and the bowler hat you just happen to have lying around completes any look effortlessly. You are always up on the latest trends, like to make an effort for any occasion and love nothing more than checking out the catwalk and interpreting it for the high street.

Beanie: Laid back and relaxed is your style, as evident by the slouchy beanie you just happened to don this chilly morn to a) keep your head warm and b) cover up your bed hair. You’re in good company here as Cara Delevingne, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are BIG fans too.

Beret: Bonjour! What do you mean you’re not French?! Oh, so it turns out anyone can wear a beret nowadays and isn’t just reserved for the chic style queens of Paris. Hurray for you, you little fashionista you. Championed by the likes of Clueless’ Cher (the epitome of cool) Rachel Bilson and Lea Michele, the beret is a firm favourite this season to top off your sleek pencil skirt and fluffy jumper. Et voila!

Baseball: Well hello there you street style cutie you! Baseball caps are no longer relegated to hiding messy hair, going to the gym, hiding from the paparazzi etc. These days the size (don’t get any ideas you naughty readers!), style and brand are all that matter with celebs like Rihanna, Beyonce and Cara- yep her again- all being big fans. It’s fair to surmise you’re at home in your baseball cap, jeans and sweats, but like to think a cool bomber and heels will smarten up your style if required.

3 Holiday Nail Looks from NYC Nail Artist Extrordinaire, Miss Ladyfinger

on

Collages

Taryn Multack, better known by her profesh name, Miss Ladyfinger is a nail artist living in NYC. The Syracuse U grad majored in fashion design but uses her trained eye to turn digits (in lieu of fabric) into haute couture. She finds trends everywhere – from the streets to the catwalk – to create her cutting edge nail art. Her goal is to make the world a more stylish and, ahem, polished place.

We think she’s doing a pretty good job so we caught up with Taryn to talk about her designer wish list, 2014 nail trends, and tips (get it) for every girl on new ways to style their holiday nails.

If you could have ONE designer item under your tree/menorah/kwanzaa bush this year, what would it be?

A drawstring backpack from The Row.

Nail polish is getting banned. You can only safely stow away ONE color. Which one is it?

I’d have to say Peridot by Chanel.

2014 is almost here! Last year was all about the pointy nail, what new nail trend do we have to look forward to in months ahead?

My new favorite thing ever— matte! And nude. Together they look really chic.

Imagine you have three girlfriends. One lives Uptown, one lives Downtown, and one lives in Brooklyn. How would you paint their nails for a holiday party?

Easy…
