Jai’me Jan – of Boy Meets Fashion blog
Here, Jai’me tells us about his life as a blogger and all the incredible places it has taken him to, as well as his life struggles along the way..
“The first few months of blogging were a struggle because my blog was new and not very many people knew very much about it. Then around the 10 month point things just went crazy. I woke up one morning and had received many messages that seemed strange at the time, on my phone, via Twitter. I got messages of congratulations from Hilary Alexander, British Vogue, Dolce & Gabbana, Daily Telegraph and fashion journalists.
I was left feeling dizzy and confused, trying to figure out what was going on and why I was getting all of these messages. Then I felt that surely it had to be a case of mistaken identity, until a friend of mine got in touch to say that Daily Telegraph had published a list of Top 50 Fashion Insiders on Twitter, and had put me on the list.
I will never forget the day Harrods came knocking on my door. This was in 2011 around Christmas time. It had invited me to attend the launch of its Boxing Day sale as a VIP and wanted me to interview Florence Welch of Florence and The Machine. I remember how nervous I was getting interview her – who was at the time the first celebrity I had ever interviewed. It was just me and her alone, inside a small room at Harrods. The experience changed me forever and gave me enormous confidence. I have learnt that whenever you confront fear, you really grow as a person.
My life has been pretty surreal ever since. I got invited to a private intimate party at Burberry’s headquarters, Horseferry House where I met Christopher Bailey. I have been featured in Tatler magazine four times, The Daily Mail featured me in its “Capital’s Most Stylish” feature last September.
I was also asked to judge the world’s longest catwalk show on Regent Street last year alongside British Fashion Council CEO Caroline Rush, GQ Online Fashion Editor Nick Carvell, Director of V&A Damien Whitmore. ZARA also included me in its “Hello London” campaign video which was crazy.
Karl Lagerfeld’s PR invited me to meet him two years ago, and then asked me to visit his store earlier this year where I tried on a few clothes and he tweeted me to say he “approved” of the outfit I was wearing. Most recently my highlights would include attending a private Ralph Lauren party, having breakfast with Lily Cole, and being invited to Buckingham Palace behind closed doors.”
Deanne Oliver-Evans aka Blonde Ambition is a party popper personified, who loves to seamlessly blend an eclectic mixture of disco & house music, creating a uplifting carnival feel to every gig she plays, whilst also enjoying a passion for deeper sounds for those hidden haunts and hotel bars.
The past few years have seen Deanne play a huge variety of exciting gigs ranging from Festival No 6, private events for Vogue, the Mercury Music Awards after party at The Box, to the World Economics Forum in Switzerland and a Calvin Klein launch on Brick Lane.
A masked ball for Venice Carnivale and a festival tour with Southern Comfort, to a set in the middle of a lake at Secret Garden Party. A gig at CMJ New York, Glastonbury & Bestival to The Kooples private event and the launch of the Kate Moss range for Topshop in London, with the leading lady herself!
Deanne has London residencies across London as well as running and hosting Lovesick, a successful club night playing disco & house music which launched back in 2010.
